Rose, Frank and Diane Perrello show off their Farm Fresh Brant NY Strawberries!

During mid-August of this year we had visitors to our historical room, which is located in the Brant Town Hall. In addition to their name, the Perrello family took the time to write a special note in our guest book to say how much “they enjoyed a trip down memory lane”! And (bonus for us), they were gracious enough to leave this beautiful photo for our archives! The note included with the photo said that in the picture are (L-R) “Mrs. Rose Perrello, Frank Perrello (son) and Diane Perrello (wife). The year was approximately 1953. The John Joseph Perrello Farm was located on Brant-Reservation Road, 1/4 mile South of Brant-Farnham Road, on the right side of the road as you head towards Milestrip Road.” In the past, we have shared with you that the Strawberry Festivals were an amazing time for our little town of Brant, N.Y. This photo most certainly captured a moment of that wonderful era and was appropriately captioned “Strawberry Festival Time - The Good Ole’ Days!” A bright, clear summer day, happy, smiling faces and - those strawberries sure look good!! The Farnham Elementary School (3rd or 4th Grade) 1910

The story as told by Dr. Anna Martorana (in our 1992 Farnham Centennial Book) is that “as the surrounding population grew a new school was built on the corner of Mud (Commercial) Street and Erie Road. It began to hold classes in 1892 which is the same year that the village of Farnham was incorporated. This wooden building was two stories, with a library, an assembly room with a stage and eight classrooms. Hundreds of Farnham’s children attended this school for forty-six years. Mr. Legee and Ellen Morris and Anabelle Bundy were principal and teachers, respectively. On January 14, 1946 the school was completely destroyed by fire in the middle of the night.” Pictured in this 1910 Farnham school photo are: (L-R) TOP ROW: Ellen Morris (teacher), Merle Lawson, Joe Sappenzio, Lenora Berns, Grace Lawson, Lydia Rhode, Lydia Gunther, Harm Schwert, Evangelina Villa, Frank Greiner.
