As we were rummaging through our albums and files, we came across this photo. Each time we see it we won der...What is this a photo of? Where is this place? So, in hopes to learn more about it - we decided to share the photo, along with the very few bits of information we have. What we know about the photo: the photographer was Lynn Walters of Brant, NY and it is printed from a plate glass negative. Within the photo, and placed high above the field stone fireplace is a moose head, on the two man tles we find a variety of odds and end collectables; vases, a clock, a stuffed squirrel (maybe) and a statue of an el ephant. A grandfather clock stands tall in the background and wicker furniture and table lamp are part of the inviting still-life scene. The French doors seem to lead outside. It may or may not be a photo of a place in our nearby or surrounding communities, but we felt it was so interest ing...and who knows…possibly someone reading this ar ticle will be able to enlighten us. Joan Carol Massaro (Creola) Joan Carol Massaro (Creola) quietly passed away on Sep tember 6, 2022. Born May 30,1936, daughter of the late Louis Creola and Sophie (Skarzynski) Creola. Survived by her beloved spouse of 65 years, Vincent Massaro, her children Linda Porter (Phil), Debbie Geilfuss (Charlie), Vincent Massaro (Leann), Robert Massaro (Tina) and William Massaro (Jennifer). And her nine grandchildren Alex Porter (Ellen), Carl, Anna and Jensy Geilfuss, Jake and Jon Massaro, Alison Fer rara (Zach), Matthew Mas saro, and Miranda Massaro. And Joan’s three great grand children, Carson, Cecelia, and Kallan. And her brother Louis Creola (Marylou). Preceded in death by her sister Barbara Dawley. Joan graduated from Kensington High School, and later attended Business school where she studied bookkeeping and tax prepara tion. Joan served more than 50 years with the Lake Erie Beach Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. After raising their family in Angola, NY, Joan and Vince relocated to Elma, NY where they enjoyed being closer to family and nature. Joan was a member of St. Vin cent de Paul Roman Catholic Church of Springbrook. Joan gifted her earthly remains to The University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program, a division of the School of Medicine. Her last wish dem onstrates her giving nature and love for all. Gladys worked at the Circle Dry Cleaners in Angola, NY and the Cattarau gus County Nursing Home in Machias. She loved play ing cards, gardening and go ing out for a ride and a bowl of ice cream. For several years now, the Brant Summer Festival has held a People’s Choice Photo Contest. We suggest that entrants have photos ready the first evening of the festival - the earlier the better, so as to obtain the most possible votes! We had just under 10 submissions this year, but each was unique, in fact, one submission was a drawing! We have allowed drawings in the past to compete - and the other entrants do not mind at all. This year’s People's Choice winners were: 1st Place: 8-year-old Matea Kuest with her adorable hand drawing of a cat and 2nd Place was her grandmother Kathie Bar reca with her striking photo combination of “Sunrise/Sunset”!
