Evans - 2022 Community Events Hometown Heroes Night
As a continuation of last year’s 200th Year Anniversary celebrations, a spinoff committee was created to keep the excite ment for Evans going! And so, the Town of Evans Community Events Committee was formed. A group decision was made to host Monday Night Family Events and Thursday Music Nights for continuous community enjoyment throughout the entire summer. The events would be sponsored by various local businesses, private donations, and budgeted funds from the Town of Evans. Co-Chaired by community volunteer Katherine Nytz and Councilwoman Laurie Reitz (who is also the board liaison to the committee), the entire committee felt strongly that the events and activities should be shared among the various parks within the Town of Evans.
Kicking off the 2022 summertime events schedule was a “A Hometown Heroes Night” at the Evans Town Park, with a performance by Iggy Golombek - a Lake Shore Alumni, and his band mates from the “198th Army Brass Band Six”. A VA Information Booth was present and arranged by Evangeline Conley. There were free hot dogs donated by Connors Hot Dog Stand in gratitude to local Veter ans and their families and to the 2021 Bi centennial Events Sponsors. News from Lake Shore Central Schools
Every Spring, Lake Shore music students can perform a solo and audition for the New York State School Mu sic Association (NYSSMA) All-State Music Festival, competing against thou sands of other music stu dents throughout the state. This year, two Lake Shore students were selected as some of the state’s top mu sic talent. Joshua Merritt was selected as one of New York’s top French horn players, and will perform in the All-State Symphonic Honor Band at the State Music Conference in Roch ester (Eastman) in early December. Jake Hopkins was selected as an alternate trumpet player and has a chance to participate, pending the acceptance of the other All-State trumpet students.
“This is a huge accomplishment for these talented performers,” says Music Department Chair/High School Band Director Eric Blodgett, noting that several other middle and high school band, orchestra, and vocal students also auditioned. “They have an excellent chance of being accepted into the Area All-State Festival as some of the top student musicians in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties.”
