Lake Shore Freshmen Meet Evans Police New SRO Patrick Atler

Evans police officer Patrick Atler is the new School Re source Officer at Lake Shore High School. One of the first steps he took was to introduce himself to students in the school’s Freshman Seminar. Officer Atler shared his back ground, experiences and goals with the Class of 2026, and answered questions about his role in the building. His main message was that he is here as a resource for stu dents, and he wants to build relationships with all students so he can help in any way when needed.

He already is quite familiar with the school – Officer Atler is a Lake Shore graduate and father of two Lake Shore students.

Officer Atler's office is located in the center of the build ing, and his door is always open. He also can be seen walking around with his partner, Addison, the Evans Po lice therapy dog who now calls Lake Shore Schools home (when she is not at home at Officer Atler's house).

“Lake Shore is so happy and fortunate to welcome Of ficer Alter, and we thank Evans Police for sharing one of its finest with our students,” said Freshmen Seminar advisor Jeff Connors.

“Family Night” Celebrations

On August 15th at the North Evans Firemen’s Park, the Evan’s Event Committee arranged a “Family Night” evening packed with fun. Starting off the evening was a craft to make summertime wreaths. At 7:30pm all were treated to a special performance and demonstration by World Class Karate, Inc. of Derby. Those in attendance were visibly impressed by the strength, focus and perse verance of the students as they demonstrated their karate techniques. Participating were students of all ages with belts of all colors! Finishing out the evening’s activities was the movie “Spider Man - No Way Home” shown on the outdoor screen.

“Family Night” Celebrations

The Seneca “Indigenous Sprit Dancers” performed at the FAMILY NIGHT event held on Monday, August 29th. The event was hosted by the Evans Events Committee, a commit tee which is co-chaired by community volunteer Katherine Nytz and Councilwoman Laurie Reitz. Originally planned to be held at the Evans Town Park, the evening’s activities were moved to the Evans Center Fire Hall because of inclement weather.

Dressed in their traditional clothing, also called regalia, the dancers were enchanting and mesmerizing with their tra ditional songs, music, and dance movements. We learned that the Seneca “Indigenous Spirit Dancers” are committed to learning and performing the dances and songs to keep their heritage strong and well. The group has performed at Pow wows, colleges, festivals, museums (and at the Buffalo Bandit games!) in order to share their rich Seneca culture with others.

Fittingly, following the perfor mance and dance demonstrations, Dream Catchers were the craft for the evening. During the craft, we were taught that the purpose of a dream catcher (originally made by the North American Indians) is “to catch harmful thoughts or bad dreams and keep you safe with good dreams and positive thoughts while you sleep”. Completing the “Family Night” activities was the ever-popular Disney movie “Encanto”.

AOBF Student Attends Business 1st Women of Influence Award Presentation

Sydney Wilson, a senior in Lake Shore’s Academy of Business & Finance (AOFB), attended the Buffalo Busi ness First 2022 Women of Influence Awards event where her AOBF internship provider, Kathleen Chiavetta, was awarded the Family Business Award. “Ms. Chiavetta re ceived the award as an influential woman who has helped create a legacy at her family-owned business,” said AOBF Director Danielle Arnone. “She was one of the 25 excep tional women honored that day, from among hundreds of nominations.” Sydney complet ed her summer Internship with Chiavetta's during 2021 and has stayed on staff since.

“Movie Nights” as part of the FAMILY NIGHT celebra tions, proved to be quite popular as a summertime activ ity with the community. Movies were shown at various venues throughout Evans such as the Evans Town Park, the North Evans Fireman’s Park, the William G. Houston Gazebo in the Angola Village and the Evans Center Fire Hall.

On August 15th and August 29th respectively, the Evans Community Events Committee hosted the following mov ies: “SPIDER MAN - NO WAY HOME” and “ENCANTO”. At an event organized by the village officials on July 28th, the town sponsored the movie “MEGA MIND”. Partici pating in the “National Night Out” on August 2nd at the Evans Town Park, the movie sponsored that evening was “PAW PATROL”.

The Evans Events Committee is co-chaired by com munity volunteer Katherine Nytz and the ever-energetic Councilwoman Laurie Reitz. The committee consists of a team of numerous volunteer members of Evans and neigh boring communities and has support through donations of businesses, private sponsors, and budgeted funds from the Town of Evans.
