There will be an event open to the entire community at the American Legion at 10:30 a.m. We will be honoring our four Veterans of the Year: William Kopczynski, John Zambanini, Keith Young, Peter Muscarella and Robert Brownell. • The Winter Parking Ban will begin on November 1st. A friendly reminder that there is no overnight parking in the Town of Evans and The Village of Angola from 12 a.m. – 7 a.m. • The Lake Shore Central High School Musical runs this weekend for “The Wizard of Oz” The Town Hall wishes all cast, crew and pit the best of luck! Break a leg! • “Red Ribbon Week” has been celebrated from October 24th – 30th in our Town. The event promotes a healthy, Drug-Free lifestyle for our youth and it was wonderful to see all levels of our schools participate in this week-long celebration. At every election it is often heard that this is the most important election of our time. I honestly feel this election it rings true. We have a chance to change the dynamics of Evans politics forever. If Mike Wasielewski, Mike Schraft & Jeanne Macko (candidates for Town Council) don't win, the present administration will have the majority vote in their favor. Many have fought long and hard to keep our marina open. We came very close to having our marina closed for the first time in almost 100 years. Party affiliation means nothing. As you can see: 1 Democrat, 1 Republican, and all on the Conservative line. When it came down to the rallies at Sturgeon Point Marina, these 3 stood tall among 100’s of concerned citizens. When the US Army Corps of Engineers showed up in July with their Chief Engineer & 4 other of their top brass these 3 candidates were there. We all sat at the same table. These 3 came to listen, learn & ask questions. No other Town Council candidates showed up. I know this for fact because I was at that table. There is more to Evans’s politics than the marina. Whether it's extending a sewer line to our marina for future development or sewers at our thruway off ramp to develop and bring in national hotel chains & restaurants (which would bring much needed revenue to our town). Another concern is updating our sewer treatment plant on Big Sisters Creek. Millions of gallons of untreated raw sewage is released into our lake every year. With the America Rescue Plan, this money will fund up to 100 pump stations & over 5.8 million linear feet of sewer pipe earmarked to be installed in Erie County. Who better to be on top of the list to receive these funds than our community? I hand delivered a sewer application to the Supervisor at a town board meeting over a year ago. Legislator John Mills was there and stood up and said he would help fill out the application. To my knowledge, nothing has been done. All 3 of these candidates will fight against windmills in Lake Erie. Please vote for your family, neighbors and all who reside in our little town tucked up here near the Canadian border. Lake Shore Grad Pays Zoom Visit to Current Calculus Students

The pay is great and if you love crunching numbers and moving data around, the actuarial field is heaven on earth. That’s the message June Longbine Pericak (LSHS Class of 2012) brought to Kate Kreinheder’s calculus students in a recent Zoom presentation. Actuaries are the folks who use mathematics, statistics and financial theory to analyze the financial costs of risk and uncertainty. Their role is essential in the insurance industry and other fields. June, who recently reached the prestigious level of FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries), lives locally and works for Independent Health. “She told students about the process of becoming an actuary, the different levels that can be reached in this prestigious field, and what an actuary actually does for a company, as well as the terrific salary and benefits and just how much she enjoys her work,” says Mrs. Kreinheder. “Her presentation gave our top math students some insight into a commonly overlooked field of study in mathematics.” For these students in AP Calculus and College Calculus, it was important insight into where their love of math might take them. Erie County Legislature Recognizes Tony “Magoo” Mirusso for his Rich Stadium “Seat-sit” fundraiser, which benefited the American Cancer Society

In 1982, town of Brant native Tony Mirusso, aka radio personality “Magoo”, was recognized for his fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society, meeting with County Executive Ed Rutkowkski, American Cancer Society Representative Jean Boss and others. It was May of 1982 when “Magoo” completed the task of sitting in every seat in Rich Stadium; exceeding the world record by sitting in more than 75,103 seats! He began the “Seat-sit” on May 24th at 6AM and finished on May 28th at 3:30PM. Thousands of dollars were raised as a result of his efforts. Rich Stadium had 80,020 seating capacity or the equivalent of 32 miles of aluminum benches. Tony was 31 years of age at the time. Contributed by the Brant-Farnham Historical Society __________

Caleb Haag: Setting Examples in Kindness

Caleb Haag, a 4th grader at A.J. Schmidt Elementary School, is the school’s September Kind Kid of the Month. “Caleb knows all about how important it is to be kind and how good it feels when you help someone else,” says School Psychologist Kelly Reigle, who oversees the Kind Kid recognitions. “For instance, Caleb helped his friend Karsten look for her lost toy during recess.” Mrs. Reigle says when Caleb was asked for ideas on other ways to be kind, he mentioned helping someone with math, helping someone who is hurt, and encouraging someone to do their best. “Caleb would never be a bully or tell another friend something negative like, ‘You are bad at monkey bars,’” says Mrs. Reigle. “Caleb learned to be kind from his Nana, his Mom, and his Dad. He says he thinks it is important for teachers to model kindness by saying things like ‘Good job,’ and ‘You tried your best,’ – and he says this is especially important when kids are doing math!” In addition to his knack for being kind, Caleb enjoys creating art and he loves riding the bus with friends. He wants to go to college but isn’t sure yet what job he would like – maybe a construction worker or an art teacher. Lake Shore High School Homecoming Celebration

On October 1, 2021, the Angola Lake Shore Alumni Association Board Members celebrated Homecoming Weekend with the Senior High School students. Board member Dick Jasinski and Honorary Members Roslyn Chiappone and Ron Pfalzgraf attended the high school pep rally where they were warmly welcomed. They presented the Senior Homecoming Queen and King with trophies. The Alumni Association donates the trophies annually. This year Madeline Maybee and Tyler Schott were awarded with the titles of Homecoming Queen and King. All involved were filled with Lake Shore school spirit! Later that evening the Alumni board members judged the Homecoming parade floats. There were many floats decorated in an olympic theme with an LSC influence, created by many different community groups. Some of the groups that participated in the parade were, the students grade levels and groups, the LS Teachers, Marching Band, School board members, GSA, The Wizard of OZ Musical members, J.T. Waugh, Academy of Business and Finance, LSC Junior Cheer and football, and local firefighters and police! A great deal of hard work and creativity was put into the floats and the students were excited to be there. The winning floats were 1st place - Freshman, 2nd place Academy of Business and Finance, 3rd place Juniors, 4th place Girls Varsity Soccer. After judging, the Alumni Association joined the parade and handed out candy to the viewers. Everyone proceeded to the High School to enjoy the Homecoming game. Board members who attended were: Samantha Chiappone, Joe Chiappone, and Dick Jasinski and Honorary members: Ron Pfalzgraf and Roz Chiappone.
