Project: Keep Evans Warm The Most Precious Blood Church in Angola is collecting used outer winter clothing for distribution to families in need and residing in the Town of Evans. All collections will be turned over to Operation Good Neighbor in North Evans for disbursement free of charge. Each year the requests for warm clothing far exceeds what can be collected.

We will accept winter coats, gloves, boots and hats in all sizes, colors and styles. Children’s sizes are very popular. We only ask that anything donated be clean.

Lake Shore Students Selected to Area All State Ensembles

At the end of last year several high school and junior high students performed at the New York State School of Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo Festival. These students were adjudicated by experts on their particular instrument, and evaluated on their technique, hand positions, intonation, rhythmic accuracy, articulations, bowing styles, dynamic contrast, posture, breath support and tone qualities. Additionally, students had to perform memorized scales, and sight-read a new piece of music that they had never seen before.

Orchestra students, Jason Martin, Shianna Bish, and Julie Ann Ketcher, were accepted to the Senior High String Orchestra. Vocalists Olivia Alvira, Dylan Barrett, Kaylee Guzman, and Colden Keller were accepted to the Senior High Mixed Chorus. Senior Shannon Halloran was placed in the Senior High Treble Chorus. 9th Grade Students Sophia Dudziak and Kyrsten Richardson were accepted to the Junior High Treble Choir. Additionally, Mitchell McGarrity, Chassidy George, were accepted to the Senior High Band, and Molly Majewski in the Junior High Band.

The Junior High Area All State Festival will take place at Akron High School on November 2nd and 3rd, and the Senior High Area All State Festival will take place at SUNY Fredonia on November 16th and 17th.

Welsted Reenlists for Continued Service in Army National Guard

Major General Ray Shields, the Adjutant General, announces the recent reenlistment of members of the State National Guard in recognition of their continuing commitment to serve community, state and nation as part of the Army National Guard.

Sergeant First Class Jacob Welsted from Lake View, N.Y. has reenlisted to continue service with the Company D, Military Intelligence, 152nd Brigade Engineer Battalion.

"It's great to see Soldiers staying in the Army and continuing to serve their State and Nation in the New York Army National Guard," Shields said. "The most important Army asset we have is the individual Soldier. The dedication, skills, and leadership traits they bring to our community and their employers are invaluable."

The Great Lakes Packing Company operated by Louis DiMarco and sons James and John, was located at the very far end of Church Street in Farnham, N.Y. It was built in 1930 as a tomato processing plant, packing tomatoes and tomato puree. Later snap beans, berries and rhubarb were added to the line. The plant employed many of our local village of Farnham and town of Brant residents. This photo was shared with us by Linda (Ball) McFarland. Annie (Militello) Spratz is her great-aunt.
