Project: Keep Evans Warm & Fed
It’s that time of year again when the days get shorter, the cold air returns and the holidays are fast approaching. In an effort to assist and support those in need and residing in the Town of Evans, Most Precious Blood Church along with Operation Good Neighbor (OGN) will be conducting Project: Keep Evans Warm and Fed. Assisting with this project are our friends at the First Church of Evans who have already offered to collect winter clothing. The starting date for this project is November 1 and it will end December 18. Collected will be winter clothing, non-perishable foods and paper goods. We will accept winter coats, gloves, boots and hats in all sizes, colors and styles. Children’s sizes are very popular. We only ask that any thing donated be clean. Food must be within shelf life and we will accept dry and canned goods with examples consisting of soups, cereals, pasta and vegetables. Baby food is in great demand. Current programs of assistance will not provide for paper goods such as Kleenex, paper towels disposable diapers and toilet paper so these will be collected also. 1907: Brant’s first automobile was an Oakland owned by the Lehley family.
1907: On November 25, 1907, Sebastian LoGrasso sells three acres of land on the Brant-Farnham Road to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Society for the establishment of a cemetery. Lucia, the wife of Sebastian, and other members of the family are buried there.
1907: Margaret Nordblum was born on Christmas day, the daughter of Charles Nordblum and Lena Stolts. She weighed only 2 1/2 lbs. at birth (her twin brother was stillborn). Margaret was so small that her parents put her in a shoe box to sleep and in the oven to keep warm. Once an adult, Margaret taught at the Farnham Elementary School for forty-three years, retiring in 1969.
1908: The village of Farnham had a trolley Line (Buffalo and Lake Erie Traction Co.) with full service from Buffalo NY to Erie PA
1908: Commercial Street in Farnham was a dirt road with wooden sidewalks.
