We were delighted to find this spontaneous photo of the 1976 Brant Ladies Auxiliary as they were preparing to have their group picture taken! Pictured are: (L-R) TOP ROW: Margie Pero, Annette Dispence, Phyllis Muscato and Gail Blackmer. MIDDLE ROW: Jennie Pero, Jean Carriero, Marie Dispence, RoseMarie DeMaria, Florence Grat, Rosemary Bedaske, Angela Pero and Mary Mancuso. And in the FRONT ROW: Willa Fricano (she wasn’t Rosenblatt at that time) and Sharon Catalano. What a fun group of ladies who by working together, accomplished many good things for the fire department and the community throughout the years! The names for our photo were provided by Rosalee “Tish” Hill who is one of the current members of the Brant Ladies Auxiliary along with Margie and Sharon both of whom we see in the photo from 1976. The Brant Ladies Auxiliary continues their good works and are still going strong today with over 25 members. The women meet at the Brant Fire Department on Brant-Farnham Road, where they host such events as pancake breakfasts, towel parties, helping Santa at his annual Christmas visit, as well as working alongside the fire department members at the chicken barbeques and spaghetti dinners. They also have food and drinks available for the Firemen when they are called out for fires and other emergency situations. Contributed by Brant- Farnham Historical Society __________

Are You Ready for the New Traffic Pattern at the Middle School? Will You Know Where to Drop Off/Pick Up Your Child?

We offer a complete line of popular and lesser known product to fit your needs. Even the discreet “pocket catheter.” To learn more or get free samples, Call 844540-2092

Changes Start Jan. 1st!

Here’s What You Need to Know: Starting Jan. 1, there will be a new traffic pattern at the Middle School during construction for the Capital Improvement Project. Maps of the new pattern will be sent home with Middle School students, distributed at holiday concerts, and posted on www.lakeshorecsd.org. Evans Police will be present to help direct traffic when school resumes after the holidays while we all get adjusted to the new pattern. Here’s what to expect:

LOT 1: THIS AREA WILL BE CLOSED The existing front building entrance, drop off loop, and parking lot will be fenced off and closed for construction. There will be no access to this area.

LOTS 2 & 3: THIS AREA IS FOR BUSES ONLY DURING ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL During arrival and dismissal (7:20-7:35 am and 2:10-2:35 pm) only buses and authorized staff will be able to enter the site from Route 5. Parents will not be able to drive through when buses are loading and unloading. Do not enter from Rt. 5 during arrival and dismissal times. Outside of arrival and dismissal times ONLY, parents and visitors may use the bus zone and enter the building through the doors at Lot 3.The doors closest to the traffic circle behind the building will be the temporary Main Entrance while the Main Lobby, Main Office, and Nurse’s Office areas are being renovated. There will be signage identifying this entrance. Do NOT park here during arrival and dismissal times, however, or you will be blocked in by buses.

LOT 4: THIS IS THE PARENT DROP OFF/PICK UP ROUTE DURING ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL Parents who drop off/pick up during arrival and dismissal must enter off Sunset Boulevard or the Beach Road entrance which connects to Eagle Drive. When entering from Sunset Boulevard, USE THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE to reach the designated drop off/pick up zone. The parking spaces along Sunset will be closed and this will be the designated student drop off/pick up zone. Students should use the building’s Sports Entrance. For student safety, drive around the traffic circle to drop off and pick up on the building side of the road in the designated drop off/pick up zone so students are not crossing in front of traffic.

We appreciate your cooperation to keep our students safe while we continue to make improvements to our schools.

For questions or additional information, contact Erich Reidell, Principal, 926-2400.

Southtowns Catholic School Visits Herschell Carrousel Museum

On Tuesday, October 29, Southtowns Catholic School students in grades 5 & 6 toured the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum. The students toured the museum, rode the historic carrousel and then participated in a STEM workshop. The kids used a cup, paper clip, dowel, and a straw to figure out how a gear works and make the dowel go up and down. When they were done, they cut our their animal and glued it to the dowel. 7 Ways to Make the Holidays Safer for Pets Nothing can spoil holiday cheer like an emergency visit to a veterinary clinic. These seven tips can help prevent a holiday disaster with your pets. • Keep people food out of the reach of your pet, and ask your guests to do the same. • Make sure your pet doesn't have any access to treats, especially those containing chocolate, xylitol, grapes/raisins, onions or other toxic foods. • Don't leave your pet alone in the room with lit candles, a decorated tree or potpourri. • Keep holiday plants (especially holly, mistletoe and lillies) out of reach of pets. • Consider leaving the tinsel off your tree if you have a cat. • Secure your Christmas tree to keep it from falling over if your dog bumps it or your cat climbs it. Hanging lemon-scented car air fresheners in the tree may deter your cat from climbing it. • Provide a safe place for your pet to escape the excitement (such as a kennel, crate, perching place, scratching post shelf or hiding place) if you’re entertaining guests. If your pet is excitable or scared, consider putting your pet in another room with some toys and a comfortable bed.

LS Celebrates Mary Kromer On NCAA National Signing Day

On NCAA National Signing Day, Lake Shore High School celebrated Senior Mary Kromer as she signed her National Letter of intent to attend Mercyhurst University to play Women’s Division 1 Ice Hockey. “In my 14 years as Athletic Director, she is one of the most well-rounded, well-respected, motivated and enthusiastic individuals I have encountered,” said Daryl Besant, Lake Shore High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. “She’s extremely likeable and just somebody you admire and can root for and you know her accomplishments are just beginning.” Mary, daughter of Michael and Tracy Kromer, is an Honor Roll student and President of the Class of 2020 and Treasurer of the National Honor Society. Currently a member of the Stoney Creek Junior Sabres (Stoney Creek, Ontario, Provincial Women’s Hockey League), she also has been active in Frontier/Lake Shore/Orchard Park (FLOP) Girls Varsity Ice Hockey (2016-19). She was WNY Girls Ice Hockey Federation Champion in 2017, 2018 and 2019; NYSPHAA Girls Ice Hockey State Champion in 2018; Section 6 Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Champion in 2017 and 2018; and NYS Girls Champion March 2018/ Niagara Purple Eagles. She has Varsity Letters in both Ice Hockey and Tennis, and was named MVP in Lake Shore Girls Varsity Tennis, where she was team captain in 2017, 2018, and 2019. With a GPA of 4.0/97.224 and Class Rank of 4/196, Mary’s academic goal is to earn a degree in biochemistry and pursue a career in the medical field. In addition to her achievements in academics and athletics, Mary participated in the 2019 Youth Climate Change Summit and is a founding member and President of the Lake Shore Green Eagles, the High School’s environmental club. Veterans Day Gathering In Farnham, N.Y.

The Village of Farnham honored all Veterans on Veteran’s Day this past November 11th. Ceremonies originally scheduled to be held at the Steven J. Rauker / Veterans Memorial Park, were moved to the Farnham Village Hall because of weather. Over 25 Farnham and Brant residents gathered for the ceremony which at 11:00AM was opened by Farnham Mayor Jere Hoisington. All in attendance stood and recited the “Pledge of Allegiance”, then listened as Farnham resident Devon Rovnak’s lovely voice strongly sang out the words of the “Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America”. Deacon Lynn Whitworth of Holy Cross Lutheran Church provided an opening prayer. It was then that town of Brant resident, Senior Chief Neil I. Ross, USN retired, was invited to speak. Neil provided a moving speech and we are pleased to share a few of his messages. He reminded us that: “The service members we honor today…were ORDINARY PEOPLE, who responded in EXTRAORDINARY WAYS in EXTREME TIMES.” He later added: Today, people throughout the country will gather together to remember, to honor, and to pay gratitude to those who have served our country. Our gathering is just one small spark in the flame of pride that burns across the nation today and everyday. It’s not a lot, but it’s one small way we can honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can all live in freedom. Your presence here today and that of the people gathering all across America is a tribute to those servicemen and servicewomen and to their families. It is a way to say ‘we remember’.” The ceremony then ended with closing words from Jere Hoisington and benediction by Lynn Whitworth who gathered us into a circle and while holding hands, we all prayed together. Vinnie Rovnak provided recordings of John Philip Sousa’s patriotic and inspiring military marching music as all enjoyed light refreshments. Six local veterans were in attendance for the Veterans Day services and are designated by “*” as we list the names of those in the photograph. (L-R): Jim Russell, Faith DeLong, Cheryl Russell, Devon Rovnak, Vinnie Rovnak, Jackie Hoisington, Mayor Jere Hoisington, Neil Ross*, Janice Ross, Peter Chiavetta, Carrie Andolina*, Jason Hoisington, Sam Hoisington, George Cordia, Michael Zeffiro, Lynda Ostrowski, Dennis Rubeck*, Deacon Lynn Whitworth, Frank Zeffiro, Lorraine Dunkel, Bill Friend, Marian Berns, Dan Rubeck*, David Berns* and Ray Dunkel*. Not pictured, but also in attendance as we recall were Marilyn Cordia, Evan Russell, Joseph Ostrowski and Patty Friend. Contributed by Brant- Farnham Historical Society __________
