Lund – city of ideas Lund is a meeting place for people and their ideas, knowledge and creativity. In this thousand-year old city centre, the Lund Cathedral, the University building, the Art Gallery, and the city’s many museums exist in harmony together with buzzing market squares, shops, department stores and well frequented cafes and restaurants. A lot of things in Lund’s city centre show evidence of the city’s history. The medieval street system has been well preserved and along the city park runs part of the original city walls. The Lund Cathedral is one of the finest roman cathedrals in Europe and it has been awarded three stars in the Guide Michelin Green book. Despite its age, Lund is primarily a young city; this can be seen wherever you go throughout its centre. More than every third Lund resident frequents the university, either as a student, a post-graduate researcher or as an employee. Lund university is the biggest/largest in Scandinavia and was established in 1666. Everything together make Lund the city of Ideas. 35
Museum of Sketches
Lund Cathedral
This is the university’s collection of sketches and models for public art. In 1934, Professor of Art, Ragnar Josephsson, began to assemble these archives. His idea was to document artistic creative processes from idea to finished works of art, and in doing so, forge an excellent learning tool for art students. Here you can find both outdoor and indoor works by famous artists, including Picasso, Matisse, Leger, Isaac Grünewald and Carl Milles.
The cathedral was built in the Middle ages, and its high altar was inaugurated in 1145. at that time, Lund was the most important city in Denmark, and the ecclesiastical hub of Scandinavia. One of the most popular sights in this church is the 15th century astronomical clock, and its magnificent calendar. Every day, the clock plays In dulci jubilo, as the three Magi approach Mary and the infant Jesus with their gifts. Don´t forget to visit Finn, the legendary giant, in the crypt, which is the oldest part of the Cathedral. The Astronomical Clock plays on Monday to sturday at noon and 3 p.m., and on Sundays at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. On Saturdays, organ concerts are held at 10.a.m.

Vattenhallen – Science Centre LTH
Lund’s venue for high-quality contemporary art is focused on conducting a dialogue with its visitors. The Municipal Art Gallery was opened in 1957, and has a central location on Mårtenstorget, the largest square in Lund. Four to five exhibitions are presented each year, both with well-known and up-coming artists.

You will find things to listen to – sounds and noises, look at – themed displays, construct – experiment with soldering, and test – optics or gyros. Grand Hotel, in the heart of Lund Steeped in tradition, the Grand Hotel can be found right in the heart of Lund. Even when it opened back in 1899, they were thinking along new lines. A modern hotel should not only provide a place for guests to sleep and eat; it should also be a place where people could live and a venue for socialising. A fundamental principle that has been preserved and is constantly being renewed.
the grand is a hotel with a soul. Its soul is in its walls, floor and ceiling, which are all steeped in over a hundred years of Lund history, which has been preserved throughout several renovations and rebuilding work. It hovers in the aroma of food and wine, and in the chink of glasses, it is in the very atmosphere… The Grand Hotel is situated 5 minutes walking distance from Lund’s Central station. Lund is Sweden’s second oldest University City, and the city itself dates from the end of the 900s. The medieval city centre is a living oasis, including sights such as the Cathedral dating from 1145, the openair museum Kulturen, and restaurants, cafés and attractive shopping areas, all within easy walking distance.
rooms at the grand
At the Grand no room is quite like another. They all have their own particular character and interiors inspired by fine, old traditions. However, regardless of the nature of your accommodations you may rest assured that you will always enjoy the same comforts as any of our other guests. They are also fitted with every modern convenience, among other things wireless internet connection. We offer guests morning paper deliveries free of charge, laundry service, access to our business lounge as well as our leisure center and much more. The front desk is open all hours.

cuisine at the grand
The kitchen is the heart of a house, and the Grand Hotel is no exception. Enjoy a classic gourmet menu in the elegant Dining Hall, or Sten Broman’s original whisky meatballs in Gambrinus’ less formal surroundings. The Grand Hotel is a member of the network “Culinary Skåne”, which guarantees use of local produce from Skåne as much as possible. The bar is the Grand’s (and Lund’s) central meeting place. You can stop off here on your way to the Dining Hall, and maybe discuss the evening’s menu and choice of wine. The Grand Hotel’s wine cellar is one Sweden’s finest, with bottles from all over the world. The Grand’s wine cellar was conferred the distinction. Hotel Finn – a home away from home! Welcome to Lund and Hotel Finn! We’re guessing you’re coming to town to work? Then you’ll appreciate a hotel out of the ordinary. Hotel Finn is about putting you in charge of your stay, while providing you with all the friendly service and support you could ever want. All in order to make your visit productive, pleasant and homelike.
39
hotel finn – a different kind of living, when living away from home. Many hotels propose to be a home away from home. We wouldn´t, because we know that nothing compares to home. What we do propose, is to provide a living space that comes pretty darn close. How? By putting you in charge. Just like you are in your own home, where you decide everything from how your rooms should be furnished to whether you´d like to prepare your meal yourself or order take‐out, eat alone or with others, at the table or in front of the TV. That´s how we define the near home‐experience at Hotel Finn: a place where you simply can be yourself. But hey – not by yourself, if you don´t want to. Hotel Finn´s friendly hosts and hostesses are on duty all day and most of the night. They´re always ready to help out, give you tips about where to go and what to do in the Lund area and answer questions. Or hang out, play games, help you with your cooking, or just chit‐chat for that matter.

Longer – larger, perhaps? We try to make all our rooms as flexible as possible – we´ve even put wheels on quite a lot of furniture, so feel free to move it around. In other words, your room is truly yours. All our rooms except the satellites have their own little kitchens. If you choose one of our two Studio XL rooms, you´ll enjoy your own laundry equipment – otherwise, you´ll use the laundry room on the first floor. Don´t forget to ask your host about our start kit for guests at Hotel Finn on arrival. Our Studios are named after their size, from 22 – 48 square meters. The Jensen beds vary in width between 140 and 160 centimeters, so you´ll live as well as sleep comfortably by yourself or as a couple.
Visiting when the weather is fair and the evenings tepid? Spend them on the patio and enjoy the little garden. Feel free to use the barbecue. Our hosts will help you if you want. Invite some other guests, perhaps? Have fun! The playful corner
Leisure time! Play fuss ball, air hockey or one of our many games for Wii. Playing with others is more fun – challenge another guest to a game, or our host or hostess. Don´t worry, they´ll make you work for your win! Hotels Facts

The Island of Ven Midway between Sweden and Denmark is the island of Ven, a cultural and natural historical gem. The island is partly characterized by the world-famous astronomer Tycho Brahe’s scientific activity. But it is also an island with constant proximity to the sea, a wonderful light and a calm that is rarely seen. On Ven you can enjoy life either on foot, on a bicycle, with horse and carriage, tractor trail, ecocar and by local bus. The island measures 11.7 kilometers in circumference and is therefore ideal for a day trip or a longer relaxing visit. nature and culture
travel to ven
The nature of Ven is unbeatable. The island’s characteristic “Backafall” raises the island 40 meters straight up from the sea. Below the slopes, Öresund´s waves caress the rocks and sandy beaches. The rest of the island consists largely of agricultural landscape of undulating meadows, groves and small picturesque houses. The history is always significant on the island.
You can go to Ven either from Swedish Landskrona or from Copenhagen in Denmark. Crossing from Landskrona to Ven takes only 30 minutes, while the journey from Copenhagen takes about 1.5 hours.
crafts and gourmet
Ven’s certain light and nature is inspiring. Many local craftsmen therefore open up their homes to share their work. On Ven’s cafés and restaurants the locally grown and organic is the top priority. Fish, goat cheese, pasta or the island’s self-produced whisky are just some of the delicacies.
accommodation
On Ven there is accommodation in many forms. Hotels, cottages, youth hostels, conference facilities and camping sites offer price ranges and standards for all different needs.

the tycho brahe museum
price example
In the center of the island the astronomer Tycho Brahe built a science center in the late 1500s which in 20 years was to become a meeting place for scientists and royalties from across Europe. A new museum on the island was opened in 2005, where exhibitions, multimedia, models, a “planet path” and a historic playground tell the story of Tycho Brahe. The Tycho Brahe museum was nominated for the European Museum of the Year award in 2007 and 2009 is now decided to be the International Year of Astronomy. Hence, the museum is more interesting than ever.

Tour on the wetlands of Kristianstad Supreme Ecotourism and rural recreation at Biosphere reserve for UNESCO network Join us on a safari into one of Sweden’s most fascinating wetland environments. Geological, biological and human forces have created this unique area of natural and cultural history that spans 35 kilometres of rivers and lakes – from Torsebro in the north to Yngsjö in the south - and forms part of southern Sweden’s largest catchment area. Experience all of these influences first-hand on one of our fascinating and informative wetland safaris.
during our journey along the all-important waterways, old maps help us discover clear traces of the old order of things in this part of the world, evidence of how people used and farmed this area in days gone by and the enormous changes that have taken place here over the centuries. As the past unfolds and the present reveals itself in the form of the rich wetlands of Kristianstads Vattenrike, there is time, too, to reflect on what the future holds for this area of unique natural and cultural significance.
We move through the water at an unhurried pace, getting close to the wildlife and the area’s many birds. More than 250 species have been observed here, and at least 120 species regularly use the wetlands for nesting. The area is also a resting place for migratory birds, such as the flocks of cranes in spring, and a favourite haunt of the region’s sea eagles in winter. Around 30 of the species in the wetlands are redlisted in Sweden.
79
Our motto throughout the trip is therefore: Look but don’t disturb! This applies not only to birds, of course, but to all the other animals and insects – and to the local human inhabitants, as well! These people have taken over the result of hard toil by generations of farmers on the margins of the wetlands, and it is thanks to them that we can now enjoy all that this unique environment has to offer. Many areas still remain difficult to get to, and a safari like ours is one of the few ways of penetrating this secret world. During the journey we make a number of landfalls, though where and when depends very much on the forces of nature. We visit villages and the sites of settlements that have disappeared as recently as during the last 200 years, the ruins of castles and fortresses from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, and much, much more. The tour takes three hours and there is possibility to buy coffee on board.
