2015 January message from 2014-’15 EBCA President, Joe Baughman I have to say, this year feels like it flew by! We had a wonderful year here at EBCA. We made some great headway on bringing some Hot Topic CE Courses to our venue, along with some great speakers with some new topics. With this brings new members and a greater ability for EBCA to help the community with additional education and donations throughout the year.

WOW!! What a great way to end the year. EBCA had its annual holiday party on December 5th. Did you get a chance to see the Grinch? Thank you to all the outstanding sponsors, the guests that did not hesitate to give, and the committee that put it all together. This year EBCA was able to donate $5,000.00 to the Bay Area Crisis Nursery. The attendees gave another $355.00 directly to the nursery along with bundles and bundles of toys for the children.

The 2015 East Bay Claims Association Membership Drive is now in full swing! Annual membership do provide a significant financial support to the organization. And, a strong membership helps to keep a non-profit like EBCA viable and alive. Without all of us together there would be no EBCA. “We really appreciate all the support this organization has enjoyed the past several years,” stated EBCA President Joe Baughman. Overall membership and meeting attendance has been consistent and substantial. Still, the sense that there aren’t many adjusters at any given function remains pervasive.

“As with all our sister groups, we continue to encourage the carrier claims people and independent adjusters participate, and to become more involved,” Joe added. “East Bay Claims Association is always committed to maintaining a high degree of professional courtesy within our ranks.”

The organization has been actively taking measures to continue to raise its standing within the community at large, as well.

As an established charitable 501c(3) non-profit organization, EBCA has added the status of the Continuing Education Provider credential to the reasons to be more involved.

There seems to be a bit of a revival of carriers supporting their claims people joining and supporting their local associations.

The EBCA Board has opted to continue to offer annual FREE Memberships to insurance claims adjusters. Completion and submission of a simple membership application now allows all such claims people the benefits of membership.

William Staples Archer Norris

Known for his courtroom command and credibility, William H. Staples is a veteran defense litigation generalist. He heads the litigation group for Archer Norris, and resolves complex disputes and achieves numerous defense verdicts and cost-effective settlements.

He represents businesses, employers, manufacturers and their insurance carriers. He will return to the EBCA Wednesday, January 14, 2015 to kick-off the new year with a return to his annual case law review.

For the past three decades, Mr. Staples’ practice emphasis has included product liability, construction defects and disputes, employment and commercial litigation, premises liability, toxic torts and catastrophic injuries.

Elevator and escalator injuries are a special practice focus.

Representative achievements include minimizing a $360 million product liability class action for a national window manufacturer and prevailing before the Supreme Court of California on a housing discrimination claim.

The firm web site states: “Bill positions cases to refute plaintiffs and achieve early resolution, managing the critical investigation process and expert teams. He presents compelling evidence before judges and juries and in alternative dispute resolution forums, often achieving favorable results in cases with unsympathetic defendants and challenging fact patterns”.

In addition to being a long-time supporter of the East Bay Claims Association, Bill has been a member of the executive council and is currently the national membership chair of Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, a selective professional network of highly respected attorneys viewed as “one in a million.”

ELECTRONIC RESTORATION SERVICES EXPANDS TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

Andrew Titley, Owner/President of ERS San Francisco Bay Area, brings his background in High Tech Sales to a new service in our area.

Andrew tells us, ERS handles “Restoration of both commercial and consumer electronics and appliances. Document freeze dry services.”

Additionally, he says, ERS provides “Full pack-out and delivery, including large appliances. We also do music instruments, exercise equipment, arcade games, etc. We restore at 38% or less of replacement value.” And, he says they offer a “One-year warranty on our services”.

Serving primarily the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, Andrew says that actually includes as far south as Monterey, North to Petaluma, and east to Stockton and Sacramento.

Andrew spent some time fully evaluating business opportunities before deciding on ERS. Being local to the San Francisco Bay Area , and ERS seeking a franchisee in this market, made for a great fit.
