What a beautiful day we enjoyed at the 17th annual EBCA Golf Tournament July 27th. Thanks so much to everyone who participated - sponsors and players alike.

2018 EBCA President

Hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much Jennifer Pinney as I did. I loved how many people participated in the ‘80s theme. That was so fun! This event serves as the primary association fund raiser each year, which allows the organization to continue donating to favored charitable causes, and generally keep our association alive. Your support means everything! Moving on, items are set for the big 25th Silver Anniversary of the Claims Conference of Northern California! What?! You don’t know?! The CCNC is hitting the road this year, with the event being held August 28 through the 30th at The Village at Squaw Valley, in beautiful Lake Tahoe! If you have yet to register, please do so now. Go to: www.ClaimsConference.org and sign-up to attend. The festivities will begin with a Welcome cocktail hour reception at the Plaza Bar from 5-6pm, following Exhibitor Set-up from 2-5pm. The program, itself, will begin in earnest Wednesday morning, August 29th, with registration and breakfast on the KT Deck and Exhibition Hall from 7:30-8:30am, followed at 8:30am by Keycontinued page 4

note Speaker, Cory Candelario, of Pacific Specialty Insurance. That session will launch a full days of conference training, trade show activity and much more. We are excited about this event, and hope to see EBCA represent in a big way! We will resume our regularly scheduled luncheon program Wednesday, September 12, 2018, back at Zio Fraedo’s. Then, Wednesday, October 10, 2018, we look forward to the return of Mr. Greg Meath as our guest speaker. An attorney out of Stockton, Mr. Meath will once again address the use of social media in claims investigations. Last year’s presentation was amazing, so please do plan on attending. November 14th will be our 3rd Annual EBCA Charitable Bowling Tournament, at Danville Bowl. This is a super fun event, and monies raised will go to one of our EBCA chosen charities. We’ll round out the year with our annual Holiday luncheon party, featuring presentations by some of our prominent charitable beneficiaries. Thank you for all your involvement. This organization continues to thrive because of YOU! Respectfully,

Beautiful Day Marks the 17th Annual EBCA Golf Tournament By Bryan Harrison

Napa, CA – Sporting an '80s theme, the 17th annual East Bay Claims Association Golf Tournament was graced with a beautiful summer day here July 27, 2018. With 100 plus degree weather being the end of July norm, the Bay Breeze made for much more enjoyable temperatures for this always rousing event. Throughout the day, the '80s theme was ever-present. EBCA President, Jennifer Pinney, along with her Golf Committee - led by Treasurer John Ehlert and Vice President Amaya Fine - created a true thematic vibe for the day. Sponsors decked out in the some of the wildest '80s attire, from glam to heavy metal, welcomed golfers as they ventured through the beautiful landscape of Eagle Vines Golf Course. The numbers are not entirely in on the day, but suffice it to say a wonderful time was had by all. more photos page 11 complete photo gallery at: www.EastBayClaims.org

Getting To Know Your EBCA Leaders

East Bay Claims Association News Network • August 2018

Jennifer Pinney -

EBCA President Leading A New Generation Leadership Profile by Lynna Harrison, with Bryan Harrison

A new generation of young professionals has effectively stepped forward to take the reins for the future of the East Bay Claims Association. The clearest example of this trend, currently, is the growth of current EBCA President, Jennifer Pinney. Ms. Pinney, who first landed a job in the claims industry less than five years ago, has grown and advanced, embracing leadership opportunities as they have presented themselves. Besides the growth she’s experienced directly on the job front, she has quickly advanced through the ranks and board of the EBCA, just as her work as Sponsorship Chair for the Claims Conference of Northern California set her on a direct path to take-on the Presidency of that long standing organization. Ms. Pinney, as the 2018 CCNC President, has effectively led the volunteer planning committee to produce the 25th annual event, happening August 28-30th at Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe. With EBCA, she explores new direction and opportunities, while holding true to many long-standing association traditions. The annual EBCA Bowling Tournament was a project she started, now going on three years ago. She was also at the forefront of the membership meet and greet event at the start of the calendar year, and the association’s popular Paint Nite. She holds fast to the ideals and charitable organizations EBCA is committed to, and works to further those causes and relationships. A California native, Jennifer was born in Orange County, Southern California. Her family moved north when she was five years old, settling in Contra Costa County, where she was raised. As the baby of the family, with two older sisters, Jennifer admits that she generally got her way, most of the time. She and her sisters are each just 15 months apart in age, and she is willing to speculate that she’s the favorite child. “My sisters and I weren’t that close growing up,” she stated, “but are super close now. One of my sisters lives 5 minutes from me, and my other sister runs an Air BnB in San Francisco.” Jennifer has never shied away from work. She began her work experience at the young age of 15, when she became a Hostess at an area restaurant. A graduate from Ygnacio Valley High School, in 2001, Jennifer worked to advance herself from Hostess to Server and, finally, to Manager at the Restaurant when she was just 31. “I worked there 16 years,” she says, before coming to this industry. As she has taken on her claims industry life, she has exhibited that same work ethic, diving into helping where ever she can. She has found her help much needed, and appreciated.

“I am very humbled and honored to be shown the respect and trust by my piers to become President of two great Claims Associations!” she stated proudly. Jennifer is also now the National Account Manager at Bosco Construction, a growing firm located in the Bay Area. Her involvement with EBCA and now CCNC has been due, in part, to leadership at her company appreciating the value of her being involved, and allowing her to take the time, energy and focus on ensuring successes for both of these organizations. “I am very fortunate to have this position at Bosco Construction,” she said, humbly, “and really appreciate all they have done, and do, for me.” The mother of two, Jennifer has been in a committed relationship with her man and father of their children, Ramon Rojas Jr., since 2002. “I have been with Ramon, the love of my life, since I was nineteen,” she said with her vibrant smile. “We have two beautiful children. Our daughter, Bailee, will be 10 in December and just started 4th grade. And, our son, Gianni, is 5, and just started kindergarten this past week.” Jen says she and Ramon enjoy weekend trips with their family. They have made the city of Martinez their home, and make a habit of such things as the Sunday morning farmers’ market there in town. Outside of work, Jen also says she “does free hair and makeup on the side”. Jen and Ramon have, of late, been discussing actually officially tying the knot. “We had been shooting for a wedding in December,” she said. “But this year just got crazy busy, so that will have to wait,” she said. Jennifer Pinney always seems willing to step outside her own comfort zone to take-on whatever task is at hand. A straight-shooter with a wicked sense of humor, she draws on her extensive people skills and strong work ethic to get things done, while enlisting others to come along. She continues to demonstrate that she is someone others tend to flock to, which bodes well for the future of the association, and the industry.
