Thanks to all who attended our first luncheon of 2014 last month. We had one of our own special members, Richard Bishop with Settlement Planners, Inc., speak to our Association about “The Evolution of the Structured Settlement Industry”. Not only did he inform us on the benefits of structured settlements, he shared a very personal story involving his son, Sam Belknap. Sam was in attendance as well. I would like to thank both of them for their wonderful presentation.

For the month of February, we have asked Andy Bull, with CH Bull Co., to speak our association about “Fall Protection and Ladder Safety”. Hope you can join us Friday, February 21, 2014.

Bishop On Evolution Of Settlement Planning At Jan. MVCA

The January 17, 2014 meeting of the Mid Valley luncheon was well-attended by many Claims Professionals. Rick Bishop, of Settlement Planners Inc., gave a very personal, heartwarming presentation in discussing the Evolution of Settlement Planning.

Rick's Power Point Presentation was not possible because a cord to his computer was missing. He then gave us his personal story.

Rick has been involved in the Financial Services business since 1974. In 1982 he was an Insurance Salesperson when his friend asked "Rick, can you do a Trust Fund for us?” That started his journey, and he has been in the industry now for 32 years.

Along the way, Rick has pursued ongoing continuing education to keep himself and his company on the forefront of the industry. He completed a course in 1996 at Notre Dame: "In-depth view of Planning”. In 2009, Rick completed an intensive certification course at Texas Tech. There are only 600 people in the country that are Licensed for Settlement Planning.

It became very personal for him in 2001 when a member of his family was in a terrible automobile accident. It involved brain damage and years of recovery plus re-occurring episodes. Rick was able to do a Settlement for him that has paid him well all these years.

Statistically, when people receive a large amount of money, he stated, 30% use all the money within three years, and 90 % use up all the money within five years.

Settlement Planning is able to save people money on their taxes and provide for their needs for a lifetime.

The meeting included raffle prizes. Sherry Wenograd of Frontier Adjusters and Katie Rowe of Water Damage Recovery won the Pot of Gold. Please join us on February 21st for the next Mid Valley Luncheon.

Join the Mid-Valley Claims Association Friday, February 21, 2014, as we welcome Mr. Andy Bull, of CH Bull & Company - best known as “The Ladder Guy”, as our guest speaker.

Ladders are consistently ranked in the top 10 OSHA violations and are one of the most common tools used on a day to day basis. Most of us have been climbing ladders our whole life. Go to a park and count the ladders in a park. They are for little kids not for professionals. It is because we have been climbing ladders our whole life Andy believes it is one reason why there are so many accidents and fatalities each year. We get complacent, lazy and say “what could possible go wrong, I’ve been doing this my whole life.”

This presentation will cover the word/acronym CLIMB. Choose, Look at, Insure a safe set up, Moving with and on the ladder and Be a ladder safety expert. In this class Andy will show more energy and compassion for ladder safety using a number of actual ladders, a power point and personal stories to get across a message of ladder safety that won’t soon be forgotten.

Andy Bull has been working at CH Bull Co. full time since February 1978. He worked as a youth minister in the Lutheran Church for almost 5 years before coming back to the family business. CH Bull is an 83 year old distribution company started by Andy’s grandfather Charles Henry Bull in 1930. With years focused on hydraulic jacking systems, hoist and small crane systems, high reach access, and specialty heat exchange systems CH Bull saw the need to start a new division call Safety Solutions. CH Bull has been selling the Genie line since 1969.
