Tag-Team On Environmental Testing, Drug Lab Sampling and Managing Asbestos Clean-up at April MVCA

The guest speakers for the April Mid Valley Claims Association Luncheon were the "tag-team" of Robert Marty & William Little, from Advanced Geo Environmental, Inc. Mr. Marty and Mr. Little discussed a variety of environmentally sensitive issues, touching on sick building syndrome, and mold, before delving into a particular focus on clandestine Meth Labs.

“Newer construction houses are built tight. You don’t see mold issues so much in older homes,” said Mr. Marty, referring to older homes having better ventilation.

Meth labs have become an enormous problem, they explained.

While these extremely toxic makeshift labs have been uncovered in

a broad array of locales, they are predominantly found in rural areas, rental properties, sheds, gated communities, even recreational vehicles and garages.

Most of the ingredients needed to make Methamphetamines may be purchased over the counter, such as: Drano, Coleman fuel, lithium batteries, ammonia and cold medicine. Laws have been created to prevent potential cookers from having access to the most important ingredients.

The cost of clean-up from a Clandestine Lab can be extreme, they explained. Many dwellings must be stripped back to the studs to get all the toxic material out of the building.
