Video Simulation & Accident Reconstruction Technologies at Feb MVCA

The guest speaker for the February 2016 Mid Valley Claims luncheon was noted expert witness Paul Kayfetz, Principal of Paul Kayfetz, inc.

The presentation was a slide show of many different accidents that were reconstructed evidence of which person was at fault. Mr. Kayfetz has over forty years experience and employs computer engineers,video engineers and engineering photography experts.

One example was a video of a Motorcycle driver, on a frontage road, hit by a backhoe driver that looked over his shoulder and did not see him. The Motorcycle driver lost a leg.

Another accident involved an AC Transit Bus that was going 17 mph and hit a pedestrian that ran in front of the bus. A 21 year old woman seriously injured pelvis..

The Bus had a video camera, and GPS on board, They recreated camera angle in AC Transit parking lot. Driver not at fault.

Paul also showed a video involving Pedestrians: a parent a and child hit in a crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle had the sun in his eyes and a dirty windshield.

The city was sued because they did not have flashing lights working that would call attention to a crosswalk. Pedestrian walked in front of car. Case was dismissed with summary judgement.

Paul said his firm helps attorneys win and save hundreds of millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements.

The 50/50/ Raffle drawing was won by Sherry Wenograd, Frontier Adjusters $15 and Katie Howard with Wingard Construction won $35.

Christine Balbo Reed joined Low Ball & Lynch in 2003. She practices in the areas of employment, personal injury, premises liability, construction defect defense. Ms. Reed specializes in the representation of developers and general contractors, and employers in employment law, litigation and wage disputes. She is admitted to practice in the State of California, before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and in the Northern, Central, and Eastern Districts of the Federal Courts.

Ms. Reed handles all aspects of litigation, including jury trials in state and federal court and numerous court trials. Her practice also includes appellate work, with the most recent decision published in 2015 in conjunction with Guy Stilson, Valdez v.

Santa Lucia Preserve Co. CA6 (H040685) (unpublished), reversing a denied motion to compel arbitration in employment class action matter. Published decisions include

Trend Homes Inc. v. Azperren 131 Cal. App.4th 950 regarding judicial reference in 2005, and again in conjunction with Guy Stilson in 2010, in Sacramento Suncreek Apartment , LLC, et al. v.Cambridge Advantaged Properties II L.P., et al. 187 Cal. App. 4th 1, regarding proper service of out of state parties for California jurisdiction.

She was born in Torrance, California and raised on the Monterey Peninsula. She admitted to bar 1995 after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991 with a degree in Legal Studies and from Monterey College of Law in 1995, where she earned the David Sabih Scholarship Award.

Ms. Reed is a member of the California Bar Association, Monterey County Bar Association, and Monterey County Women Lawyers Association and is the Vice President of Insurance Professionals of Monterey Peninsula.

Ms. Reed resides in Carmel with her husband and two children. She enjoys swimming, officiating age group swim meets for Pacific Swimming, yoga, skiing, hiking, cooking, and traveling.

FRSTEAM WELCOMES BUSINESS DEVELOMENT MANAGER KIMBERLEY LEAMAN FRSTeam by Custom Commercial, a leader in textile restoration, is pleased to welcome to the position of Business Development Manager, Ms. Kimberley Leaman.

Ms. Leaman, who started with FRSTeam in January of this year, has as her territory the San Francisco Bay Area and the Sacramento Area within Northern California.

The folks at FRSTeam by Custom Commercial are Fabric restoration experts who specialize in restoring clothing and textiles damaged by smoke, fire, water, and mold.

Ms. Leaman first learned of the insurance claims restoration industry while working as a licensed termite inspector about 5 years ago. “I learned about restoration construction as a result of termite and water damage,” she explains.

“I most recently was selling pharmaceuticals,” she tells us. “I have been in outside sales for more than 20 years.”

Possessing a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising with a Minor in Marketing. Kimberley is poised for success in this industry.

“It had always been a goal of mine to become a pharmaceutical representative, so once I got into that field I felt I had achieved one of my goals,” she says.

"We are excited to have Kimberley join our team,” states FRSTeam CEO Courtney Nicholas. “Her energy, passion, experience and enthusiasm are a great complement to FRSTeam.”

MICHELLE BASTO JOINS PATRIOT ENVIRONMENTAL LABS Patriot Environmental Laboratory Services welcomes new Marketing Associate, Michelle Basto.

Ms. Basto, who brings a strongs background within the Restoration industry to the table, started work with Patriot Environmental Labs at the beginning of this past December.

“We are an environmental laboratory that performs testing for Asbestos, lead, bacteria, mold / fungi and indoor Air Quality,” she explained. “The service territory for our office really encompasses anywhere in Northern California,” she added.

Michelle also explained how she began her work in the industry. “I worked at a call center taking Emergency Service calls and found this line of work interesting.

A San Francisco, Michelle did Administrative work prior to her new position.

“My background has always been in this field, Restoration/Construction,” she said with an infectious smile.

“In the couple of months I have been with Patriot I have already visited over 100 offices. I’ve met so many nice people and everyone has been extremely helpful!” she said.

Her upper management was quoted as saying “We wouldn’t be having this conversation if we didn’t think you can do it.”

Outside of work, Michelle shared her passions. “I love to train at the gym and lift weights. I love uplifting positive motivational books and live by quotes,” she said. “’Believe you can and you will’,” she added.
