5th International Operational Modal Analysis Conference
Welcome to IOMAC 2013 Welcome to the 5th International Modal Analysis Conference, Guimarães, Portugal, May 13-15, 2013. The Conference is jointly organised by University of Minho, University of Porto and University of Southern Denmark, with the special sponsorship of Brüel & Kjaer and several exhibitors: Brüel & Kjaer, HBM nCode, LMS International, M+P International and Structural Vibration Solutions. From the establishment of Experimental Stress Analysis in the decade of 40 of the last century to the present time, Experimental Structural Dynamics has undertaken an enormous progress, with the consolidation of testing techniques, the improvement and diversified use of sensors and acquisition systems, the development of modern algorithms for identification and detection of damage and the increased storage and data transmission capacities, which have determined an increased understanding of the structural behaviour of complex structures. In this context, Operational Modal Analysis has played a very significant role enabling the use of more and more sophisticated and accurate algorithms and computational tools for the estimation of relevant dynamic structural properties based only on the measurement of the response to natural excitations. This Conference covers all major aspects of Operational Modal Analysis, with focus on the following topics: comparison with traditional modal analysis, damage detection, experimental testing, fatigue, identification techniques, load estimation, measurement techniques, model updating, model validation, noise control, response simulation, signal processing, structural modification and vibration level. Beyond a good number of interesting papers on these topics, presented by researchers, technical specialists and students, the Conference comprehends a Keynote Lecture by Dr. Bart Peeters and a Lecture of Honour by Dr. Reto Cantieni, two prestigious members of the OMA community. As the previous IOMAC Conferences, held in 2005 and 2007 in Copenhagen, in 2009 at Ancona and in 2011 in Istanbul, scientists, applicants, vendors and students have the occasion to share their knowledge in this rather fascinating field and to improve their specific skill. We warmly thank all the contributors, the authors, the speakers and the exhibitors and sponsors of the event and wish this conference will offer you fruitful discussions and a pleasant time in Guimarães. Guimarães, May 2013 Álvaro Cunha and Luís Ramos

5th International Operational Modal Analysis Conference
Notes for Speakers • The IOMAC conference will be running on a tight schedule and your cooperation in making sure the sessions follow to the designated time limit is much appreciated. • Each Speaker is allowed a total of 15 minutes: 13 minutes for Oral Presentation + 2 minutes for short Questions and Answers (Q&A). Alternatively, the Chairperson of your session might choose to “pool” the allowed time for Q&A and reserve a combined Q&A session for all speakers towards the end of the session. • Speakers will be alerted as they approach their presentation time limit (i.e. with a 2-minutes warning). We suggest all Speakers to prepare a presentation with about one slide per minute (maximum of about 15 slides). • Speakers are requested to send in advance to the Local Organizing Committee the following information: - Paper ID number; - Speaker name; - Short CV of 100-150 words. • The short CV will be used by the Chair to introduce the Speaker before the presentation. • A computer with projector equipment will be available at each conference room. For presentations we advise to use powerpoint or pdf slides. • For the sake of good order, please bring your presentation in an USB memory device. The files should be copied to the computer in your room Session during the Coffee Breaks. • 15 min before the beginning of each session, each Speaker should introduce himself to the Chair of the Session. • Once again, we kindly ask your cooperation for the success of IOMAC 2013 Conference.
