Background We live in a throwaway society, and it’s taking a significant toll on the environment. Builders, both public and private, established marketplaces and demolition contractors hold great value in reusable materials. Every year, many buildings are demolished without an assessment of re-use potential, and building owners choose to pay large sums to dispose of the materials as waste. Even wrong orders go straight into the trash! Widespread recycling has drastically reduced the quantity of waste that ends up in landfills. But recycling alone can’t combat the huge amount of waste created from the building industry. The throwaway model is inarguably unsustainable, the answer might well be transitioning to a circular economy! A circular economy is a sustainable model of production and consumption. It uses, reuses, repairs, refurbishes, shares, and finally, recycles. This ensures the maximum value is extracted from items with minimal impact and minimal waste.
Problem Statement How might we design a web platform that connects key players and automates today's complicated process of selling used building materials. How might we design the portal that it becomes easier to find used building materials with the search function across different marketplaces and databases.
