Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a student-led club that meets weekly for prayer, devotions and games. Our club cleans the highway in front of our school four times a year and hosts Prayer at the Flag and Bring Your Bible to School Day.
Our FCA gives students a safe place to pray and study. Cleaning the highway is a fun activity that promotes leadership and assisting in your community.

I think that what makes my school special are the students, teachers, and sta . They all contribute to making the school feel like a community. What I like about school is that it allows me to have fun while learning academic and life skills. Reading and Science are my favorite subjects. Reading has exposed me to many types of writing and has aided my own writing. Science is simply fascinating, and 8th grade Science is particularly enjoyable. Currently, I do not have set plans for the future, but that is the beauty of it, because I can continue learning and eventually make those decisions. I would probably say my mom is my role model. I think the way she built her life, starting with little, shaped my views on what a strong, hard working person is.

Our principal, Mrs. Hargrove, makes school special because she does her best to take care of the school. I like my school because of the friends that I have made since I have been attending CES.
My favorite subject is Science. It is cool and it helps me think outside the box. It sparks curiosity for my mind.
My plan for the future is to attend college and major in business management. I would love to own a baking business.
Miya Williams is my role model because she is a youth Christian like me. Always remember Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

I have been teaching for 15 years. All of my years have been spent here in Duplin County! I have taught grades, 1, 4, 5, and served as a literacy coach. I am currently teaching 5th grade and have taught this grade for 7 years. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in 2007 and my Master’s Degree in 2012, both from East Carolina University. I am currently pursuing my National Board Certi cation.
I chose education as a profession my senior year of high school. I was involved in a Peer Tutoring program at Chinquapin Elementary school. I formed very close relationships with the students I tutored and knew in my heart that my purpose was to work with children. On my last day of my assignment, one of my students was in tears as I le . I took a photo with this student and it still stands in my classroom. I look at this photo daily and remember why I began!
My school is very special because of the sense of family we have. Not only does the sta work together better than anywhere I have seen, the community jumps in to assist anytime they are called upon. Chinquapin sta and families support one another, but most importantly, they love one another.
Leading our Beta club this year has been both a challenge and a blessing. Our school is lled with hardworking, kind, and smart students. Because of this, we have a large Beta club, with over 80 members this year. Over 50 of these students came to school at 7am during the week and several hours each weekend leading up to our state convention in February. At this convention our students earned 15-top 5 awards, including 1st place in Songfest, Academics, and Visual Arts.
I also feel that my garden is a Bright Spot. Each year I write grants geared towards agriculture. My students love planting vegetables, watering, and harvesting the crops we grow throughout the year. With these grants we have also raised butter ies, created a worm garden, created weather stations and practiced aquaponics. I love integrating agriculture into our everyday studies and showing my students how they can harvest and grow their own food. These opportunities have allowed my students to experience many of the components of STEAMA each day!
