Junior Beta Club

The Junior Beta Club is an academic organization that focuses on character development, creativity, and community service. The Beta Club honors our students who excel academically and provide students with the opportunity to compete at the state and national level.

The Junior Beta Club does a yearly service project for our community. In past years, we have collected items for our military personnel and treats for rst responders. This year, our students beauti ed our campus and many students contributed to a Ukraine service project organized by North Duplin High School.

“Being part of the Beta Club at North Duplin Elementary makes me proud and it encourages me to be my creative self. The club has provided me with the ability to step out of my comfort zone not only artistically but also academically and socially, all while contributing to my community through service.” - Carrly Strickland (6th Grade)

My school is special because everyone has good values even though we are living in a time that values aren’t as important or cool. I like that everyone is a able and considerate. I also like that our school is not very big and the teachers make learning fun.

My favorite subject is Math because it can exercise your logic and problemsolving skills. I like using numbers, fractions, decimals and so much more. Math is also great because we use it every day in the real world.

My plans for the future are to go to the Early College. A er I graduate from high school, I want to go to Duke University and become an eye doctor.

My role model is my mother because she takes care of me when I’m feeling down, confused or in trouble. She is very patient and she respects my opinion. She is kind, caring and she puts others before herself. My mother inspires me a lot.

I like that my school makes everything that we learn fun. We get to go outside and play with our friends and I like to learn new things every day.

My favorite subjects are Math and Social Studies. I like learning new things in Social Studies and Math is very easy for me. My plans for the future are to attend Meredith College. I want to be a dentist when I grow up.

My philosophy of teaching and education is that all students are unique and special. It is my job to help them become life-long learners who are well-rounded, critical thinkers. They should feel safe and loved. Students should be held to high expectations and encouraged to go above and beyond. I chose education as a profession because I wanted to make a di erence in the lives of children.

I received my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Music in 2000 from Mount Olive College. In that same year, I began teaching as a lateral entry music teacher. I completed my lateral entry courses for certi cation through East Carolina University. This school year is my 22nd year in the music classroom.

My school is special because of the close knit community that loves and supports us. The students are probably what I love most about my job. Their excitement and enthusiasm are some of my favorite things. I must constantly be willing to learn, change, adapt, and grow. Much time is spent on re ection and how I could do something di erent or better to meet the needs of ALL of my students.

I have been in charge of numerous musical programs at our school. Whether we are having a Christmas program or singing a few pieces for an EPIC meeting, my students never cease to amaze me. Their willingness to act, perform, sing, dance, play instruments, be creative, listen, and participate has been phenomenal. I am so very proud of each and every one of them and the growth that they have made in so many di erent ways.

Educators should be the example for students. Actions speak louder than words.
