Digital Learning and Media

The Digital Learning & Media Department provides leadership in creating lifelong learners and responsible citizens through the love of reading, inquiry-based learning, and collaborative teaching in a digitally connected world. Although it became increasingly important with remote and hybrid instruction during COVID-19, blended learning and incorporating digital resources and tools into classrooms was already underway in Duplin County Schools. Our students are digital natives, meaning technology is a natural part of their lives and incorporating it into their learning increases rigor, relevance, and engagement. Media centers continue to house print materials but they are also the hub for all things digital, providing support to teachers and students alike on the variety of devices and plethora of resources available.

2021-22 highlights for the department include adding two additional Digital Teaching and Learning Specialists to support and enhance digital learning in the classroom, publishing a monthly Digital Learning Tech Tips to provide quick tips and tools for teachers, creating and maintaining the Duplin Reads to Succeed website, encouraging and assisting Digital Learning Media Coordinators to facilitate reading events in schools, providing maker spaces in all schools for students to create and explore STEAMA opportunities, and participating in the rst cohort of the state’s Rethink Education blended learning instructional model.
