Light Up the Lawn

The Senior Beta Club sponsored Light Up the Lawn in November in recognition of Veterans Day. Club members sold 250 luminaries either in memory of fallen soldiers or in honor of retired or active service members. Luminaries acknowledged every branch of the military, several wars, and POWs. A ceremony was held for the lighting of the luminaries and all of the names were read aloud. All of the money raised was donated to the Veteran’s Home. Student Giselle Contreras-Gonzalez said the moving event was a great opportunity to honor veterans. Thank you to our students and community members who made this event such a success, but most of all thank you to those who ght for our freedoms.

The people at North Duplin are calm and there is not a lot of drama. I like the layout of the school with all the di erent buildings.

My favorite subject is English because there has been tons of Greek Mythology.

I plan to go to the University of Mount Olive to study Folklore and Mythology. Jessi is my role model because he is always a good person.

My school is special because of Mrs. Chelsey. She is my role model because she teaches me to do new things and she is easy to talk to and fun.

What I like most about school are my teachers and being able to help people. Math is my favorite subject because it is interesting and easy for me. I would love to go to East Carolina University and get a degree in teaching.

What makes North Duplin special to me is the people because we all grew up together so we’re basically like a big family. My favorite subject is Health Science. I like learning about the human anatomy and my teacher, Mrs. Jamie Kelly makes it very fun. A er high school, I want to play soccer for Barton College and while I’m there I want to study to become a nurse. I don’t just have one role model. I feel like everyone in my family plays a big role in my life. My dad teaches me to work hard for what you have, my mom teaches me how to be independent, my sister Crystal teaches me how to be con dent, my sister Kendy teaches me how to be kind, and my brother Noel teaches me how to be patient.

I don’t just have one role model. I feel like everyone in my family plays a big role in my life.

I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from East Carolina University in 2003. I started in DCS in March 2012 and I am a Nationally Certi ed School Nurse. I chose school nursing because I enjoy working with children and I love the exibility the job gives me to be involved with my own family. My school is special to me because I live in this community and I graduated from North Duplin. These are kids I see walking around my neighborhood, working in local stores, and at my church. They are like my family and I love seeing them grow up and become leaders in our community.

Our children’s overall health plays a role in them being successful in the classroom and my goal is to help them be the healthiest version of themself. We have a growing number of students in our schools that have chronic health conditions and I play a vital role in teaching them how to manage it so they can be successful in school and as an adult.

I also feel it’s important that I help our sta focus on their health and learn how to make good choices. Our teachers work really hard and o entimes don’t take the time to take care of themselves so we try to o er some wellness opportunities at school. In the past, I have done a “Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge” for our sta and everyone really enjoyed it. We have also partnered with a local pharmacy to provide u shots and other vaccinations for our sta . We have had Vidant Duplin come out and do cholesterol and blood pressure screenings.
