Editor-in-Chief’s Note “Never be limited by other people’s limited imaginations.” —Dr. Mae Jemison, first African-American female astronaut “I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality…. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” —Martin Luther King, Jr.
Mary Taylor a woman of Excellence Mary Taylor has a faces for every occasion. Whether it’s teaching fitness or dance, encouraging those around her, teaching the word of God, or writing the renowned educational stage play, “From The Boat To Obama & Beyond. The show spent five great years on the stage of The Bushnell and from there went on to the Stadium Theatre in Rhode Island. From There the show has spent three years, returning annually at the Academy of Music in Northampton, Massachusetts. Now the new year it taking a different turn for the production. The focus will be to bring the show to Colleges throughout the United States. The purpose is to inspire students to want to get an education and by visiting the school and attending the production, they will have an opportunity to experience early what the atmosphere is like. The purpose behind the show is to bring history alive in such a way the students and educators can look at the life of African Americans in a different light and get some understanding of how we lived before being taken away from our homeland and how we survived in the new land. “From the Boat to Obama & Beyond” is a shining example of musical ethnic theater, complete with amazing dance numbers, period wardrobe, eminently remarkable songs, plus touching poetry, oracle presentations, etc. The Musical highlights notable, historic moments in the African-American experience. The play brings to life the richness of Africa's cultures transplanted in other countries and America. The production captures enslavement and removal of Africans from their native home land via the Atlantic passage. From there the audience is taken on a journey over the gulfs of time from the 18th century to the modern day world as we know it. This production moves in a historical wave. Starting from the destruction of Black Wall Street, reconstruction, inventions and creations, the Sixteen Street Church experience, and ending with the accomplishments of President Barack Obama. The objective of “From the Boat to Obama & Beyond,” is to help all students increase their comprehension of history, diversity, and appreciation of and respect of all cultural differences. We believe in the power of art to transform lives of young people. We believe the benefits of the musical and theatrical arts disciplines can provide: diversity awareness, promote self esteem, positive cultural appreciation, and expose students to the educational benefits of the integrated arts. Our mission is to bridge the educational gap for children who are not adequately exposed to the arts in conjunction with teaching expressive dance, which enables our youth to develop their creativity, awareness and self-esteem through knowledge and accomplishments in the performing arts.
As a growing organization, we envision achieving the following programming objectives as we develop new, diverse theatrical projects: Build self confidence; teach children how to focus while maintaining self control and discipline. Clarify the misconceptions pertaining to the arts due to lack of exposure and information. Create positive and meaningful relationships within the community. Present non-traditional theater that showcases the vibrant diversity of the Greater Hartford community. Encourage family involvement and new audience participation by providing quality theater that is culturally diverse. Assist schools in meeting statutory obligation to teach about diverse culture and historical experiences

In the wise words of Morgan Freeman, "Black History is American history," and it ought to be taught and celebrated in every classroom. So we put together this list of amazing quotes from several important figures in history. Feel free to print them out and hang them on your bulletin boards for daily inspiration, introduce them to spark conversation, or during warm-up before reading a book or story about Black history.
http://komonews.com/news/local/5-year-old-kent-girl-honors-iconic-black-women KENT, Wash. -- Lola is barely old enough to write the letters N-A-A-C-P yet bears a striking resemblance to its founder and anti-lynching activist Ida B. Wells. It's all part of an educational, and empowering project her mother helped bring to life. With the aid of props from around their home in Kent - wigs, a bonnet, her mother's cellphone, artsy eye and photo apps - Lola has transformed into some of the most admired and notable black women in history. Cristi, Lola's mother, says Lola was enthralled by a video on Martin Luther King, Jr. shown in school last month. Cristi turned that into an opportunity to teach her child more about civil rights. Since Lola loves dressing up, her mother says she decided it would be fun to educate her daughter about black history by having her actually become the women she was learning about. "And it is extremely helpful that Lola truly emulates the women she's portraying," Cristi says. "She gets into character and just nails it." Wearing an Afro wig and a powerful pose, the kindergartner shares a likeness to political activist Angela Davis. Donning a braid on her head and arrest number in her hands, Lola mimics the mug shot of Rosa Parks. She pulls off politician Shirley Chisholm, felt pretty as singer Josephine Baker, now wants to write poetry like Maya Angelou, and didn't want to remove the aviator hat she used to mirror a photograph of Bessie Coleman, the first woman of African American descent to hold a pilot license. Lola is often a quiet and serious student, but her mother says she’s blossomed since they started their Black History Month project. Cristi told KOMO News' Gabe Cohen: “The idea of giving her some people who did really brave, cool things to look up to felt important to me,” Cristi said. “She’s shy and a little bit meek in social setting, so I thought maybe if she find out about these women who fought for rights or stood up for themselves maybe she’ll learn about confidence and bravery.” The kindergartener's teacher has remarked that she’s more confident, and talking more in class. “I have these amazing women to thank for helping my daughter feel powerful,” Cristi says. “I have learned much more about the tenacity and courage of the women we are featuring, and also about the importance of children having a positive role model.” Each day of February on Facebook, Cristi has posted about a prominent black woman, and accompanies it with a photo of her child next to a picture of the woman.
Black Fashion from the Past
Pat Cleveland: Nichelle Gainer knows a thing or two about glamour: She spent most of her career working for magazines like “Woman’s Day,” “GQ,” “Us Weekly,” and “InStyle,” with a focus on celebrity, fashion, and grooming. But her true passion is fiction, so she decided to write a novel about black beauty pageants in the 1950s, partially inspired by one of her two glamorous aunts, who was a model in the 1950s—the other was an opera singer who rubbed shoulders with the biggest celebrities of her day.
A famous ’60s fashion model, Pat Cleveland was associated with big names like Karl Lagerfeld and Oscar de la Renta. She was featured in countless editorials, from Vogueto GQ. Her style was a mix of fashionforward elegance. (Photo via Irving Penn /Vogue)
The Place Of Preparation In The Pursuit Of Your Dream Job by Daniel Dela Dunoo How to Walk in Freedom From Your Concerns by stephanie reck 2018 / Christian Living Have you had trouble experiencing joy? Perhaps the reason is that your concerns are weighing you down. I was feeling a little sluggish this week and just not able to experience joy. It felt as if something was pressing on me or weighing me down. In my time with God this morning, He revealed to me that I was concerned over many matters and that was causing me to feel the way I was. →How do you know you are overly concerned about a situation? You repeatedly think about or talk about that situation. God had showed me that I have been daily thinking about the same concerns. It is not all bad to have concerns but when they become repetitious in manner than we can lose our joy and our peace. When we hold onto the same concerns after we have prayed about them and refuse to surrender the outcomes to God, a heaviness can come upon us. We are not built to carry our concerns. If we carry our concerns daily we cannot experience enjoyment of life. As women it can be especially challenging not to think about our concerns. A woman’s brain is compared to spaghetti, meaning experiences and thoughts all run-together. The problem is when you can’t turn the switch off in your brain for the situations you are concerned about. →How can you walk in freedom from your concerns? • •

Write out what you are concerned about, be aware of those concerns you repeatedly think about (those are the ones that cause heaviness and robs you of joy and peace). Look over your list of concerns and ask yourself the following questions over each one: Have you prayed about that concern? Are you trusting God with the outcome of your prayers? Which concerns do you repeatedly think about? Get to the “root” of why you repeatedly think about those concerns. Are your concerns rooted in fear? Are you trying to figure out the outcomes of your concerns? Become aware of the concerns you are repeatedly thinking about. Submit the concern immediately to Christ and move on. Remind yourself that you have prayed about those concerns, and God has heard you and He will answer you. If you are repeatedly thinking about the same concerns most likely fear is involved and you are in bondage to whatever is controlling your thoughts. Fear does not come from God, so it must be broken by the name of Jesus. Obsessive thoughts about concerns can be broken by discipling your mind. When a reoccurring obsessive thought comes to your mind, don’t entertain, dwell, or analyze that thought. Stop thinking about that thought by replacing the thought with a scripture and/or a faith-filled response. You may need to do this often before the obsessive thought is broken.

Inspirational quotes for Black History Month http://www.chicagonow.com/lipstick-lollipops/2015/02/inspirational-quotes-for-black-history-month/
By Julia Passamani, NAACP.ORG We should honor Black History Month every day of the year to celebrate influential African Americans and events in our history. Historian Carter Woodson established what is now known as Black History Month in 1926. He explained, "We should emphasize not Negro History, but the Negro in history. What we need is not a history of selected races or nations, but the history of the world void of national bias, race hate, and religious prejudice." Carter Woodson's vision embodies diversity and inclusion to overcome bias against the unknown. I've had the pleasure of listening to VernÄ Myers(author of Moving Diversity Forward and What if I say the Wrong Thing among others) speak on several diversity and inclusion panels. She describes diversity as inviting everyone to the dance, but inclusion is inviting them to dance.
BIOGRAPHY Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad "Conductor", Nurse, Spy DATE OF BIRTH - DEATH 1820/1821 - March 10, 1913 Ross, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, sometime in 1820 or 1821. As a child, Tubman was “hired out” to various masters who proved to be particularly cruel and abusive to her. As a result of a head injury caused by one of these men, she suffered from seizures and “visions” for the rest of her life, which she believed were sent from God. In 1840, Tubman’s father was freed as a result of a stipulation in his master’s will, but continued to work for his former owner’s family. Although Tubman, her mother, and her siblings were also supposed to be freed, the law was ignored and they remained enslaved. Tubman married a free black in 1844, and changed her first name from Araminta to Harriet. Perhaps one of the best known personalities of the Civil War, Harriet Tubman was born into slavery as Araminta In 1849, Tubman became seriously ill with complications from her head injury, and her owner decided to sell her, but could not find a buyer. After her owner’s sudden death, the family began selling off all of the slaves. Not wanting to have her family separated, Tubman was determined to escape. A first attempt, in which Tubman was accompanied by her brothers, was aborted when they had second thoughts. Tubman decided to try again on her own, and she escaped via the Underground Railroad into Pennsylvania. Tubman settled in Philadelphia and was able to support herself doing odd jobs. But in 1850, word came that her niece and her two children were to be sold. Tubman was determined to help, and went back to Maryland. With the assistance of her brother-in-law, Tubman was able to bring her niece and the two children back safely to Philadelphia. This was the first of many trips that Tubman would make to lead family members and others to freedom. On one expedition, Tubman contacted her husband in the hopes that he would follow her to Pennsylvania, but he had remarried and preferred to remain in Maryland. Over the course of 11 years, Tubman rescued over 70 slaves from Maryland, and assisted 50 or 60 others in making their way to Canada. During this time, her reputation in the abolitionist community grew, and she became acquainted with Frederick Douglass and John Brown. She also moved her base of operations to Auburn, New York, closer to the Canadian border. Tubman conducted her last rescue mission in November 1861, as the Civil War enveloped the nation. Tubman offered her services to the Union Army, and in early 1862, she went to South Carolina to provide badly needed nursing care for black soldiers and newly liberated slaves. Working with General David Hunter, Tubman also began spying and scouting missions behind Confederate lines. In June of 1863, she accompanied Colonel James Montgomery in an assault on several plantations along the Combahee River, rescuing more than 700 slaves. Her deed was celebrated in the press and she became even more famous. With the end of the war, Tubman returned to Auburn, NY and married a Civil War veteran. Although her service in the Union Army was much publicized, she had great difficulty in getting a pension from the government, but was eventually awarded a nurse’s pension in the 1880s. She did not stay idle in her later years, taking on the cause of women’s suffrage with the same determination she had shown for abolition. Tubman established the Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged on a property adjacent to her own. After undergoing brain surgery to try to alleviate the symptoms from the head injury that had plagued her since childhood, and being essentially penniless, Tubman was forced to move into the home herself in 1911. She died there on March 10, 1913, surrounded by family and friends. She was buried with military honors at Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn.

DESERTS DATING BACK TO SLAVERY
Save Room For Dessert
Honey Peach and Blackberry Cobbler From fried pies to rich, fruity cobblers, soul food desserts pack just as much flavor as the main dishes themselves. Their super-easy preparation, and a typically short list of ingredients, made cobblers popular as early Southern dishes. Cobbler is a cozy dessert dish—typically served warm—in which sweetened fruit is topped with sugary biscuits. This cobbler highlights two favorite Southern fruits: peaches and blackberries.
Pound cake got its name from its massive ingredients: one pound each of sugar, butter, eggs and flour. This batter of course could feed multiple families--and did. As I mentioned previously, meals were a family affair, and there were usually quite a few people gathered to eat together during slavery days. This recipe became so popular because it was easy to remember; most black Americans could not read or write due to slave codes in America that prevented the education of slaves.
Bourbon Bread Pudding Dating back to the days of slavery when food could be scarce, African-Americans worked to utilize every ingredient available to them. Even stale bread was soaked in milk or water, flavored with spices, and then baked into bread pudding for a savory dinner or a sweet dessert.

Hoppin' John with Mustard Greens This quintessential Southern dish features black-eyed peas, ham, rice, and greens and was likely introduced to America by African slaves who worked on the rice plantations. There are several legends about the origin of the name, but our favorite is that a man named John "came hoppin' to the table" when his wife made this dish.
Stewed Okra and Tomatoes Okra, a traditionally Southern vegetable, has gained popularity across the country in the past few years, making this dish a national favorite. Fresh or frozen okra work equally well for this high-fiber side dish. Add corn for a little color and texture or cayenne pepper for a spicy flavor.
Fried Pork Chops with Cream Gravy Fried meat covered in creamy, white gravy is a common homestyle dinner. Sweet potatoes, a staple side, were readily available and used often in casseroles and pies or simply baked to add a dash of sweetness to any evening menu.
The Power of Words LOVE ! Lewis E. Thomas As given by God on 2/10/2018 Love is the most powerful force on earth! Love came down to us through the virgin birth! Love fed the five thousand with a few loaves and fishes! Love wore sandles and always fulfilled His father's wishes! Love walked on the sea into the storm! Love saved those in the ship from great harm! Love spoke to the mighty waves and said, "Peace be still!" Love walked in His holy father's perfect will! Love offended the pharisees and the religious crowd! Love offended the self righteous hypocrites who were proud! Love stood alone for you and me! When all abandoned Him and began to flee! Love stood before Pilate to be accused! Love was "severely" beaten and abused! Love carried His own Cross up to Golgotha Hill! Love was nailed thereon because it was His father's will! Love granted grace to the repentant thief on another Cross! Love "promised" that thief he would not be lost! Love "paid" for your sins and mine! Though Love had never committed sin even one time! Love died there in agony of body and soul! So that you and I might walk on Streets of Gold! Love came down from Heaven embodied in Jesus Christ! Love was/is The Lamb of God that forever changed my life!
Forgive and be set free! by Trudy Belle 2/10/2018 / Testimonies Friends, I would like to share something special that happened to me yesterday. I was wrestling with something for a while and there was an inner battle. I decided to call Crossroads 24-hour prayer line to have a chat and get prayers. They have a wonderful ministry and have always received godly council from them and just having someone available 24/7, to share a burden or receive a prayer is a mighty blessing. Please feel free to take advantage of the offer to pray for you too – google their telephone number. Well, after talking an elderly brother in Christ, I received peace. I also heard a few online sermons and suddenly knew I had to forgive the persons who caused me grief for years. It also dawned on me that I had to truly surrender the matter to God and not take it back. A little later, I found a blog written by a sister in Christ, she reiterated that unforgiveness to others = being unforgiven by God. She quoted a lot of scriptures and shared her testimony and it showed me how valuable it is share our journey, so that others will benefit. So, looking down the long corridors of my past, I chose to forgive everyone whose image or name came to mind. I have done this a few times before, so it was not all new to me, but let’s be honest, we forgive and then go back to unforgiveness at times, so it was time for a clean slate and include the ones I needed to forgive in the matter that was causing me unrest. It was easy, not emotional, nor depressing, a heart willing to let it all go and receive my own forgiveness from God. It also entailed taking time out today to go back to my childhood, and slowly trace the many steps of my life. Memories flooded back, many had impacted me negatively but willingly said “I forgive you for what you did and what you failed to do.” After forgiving countless of people, many the second or third time, lest there be any residue of unforgiveness, I decided to forgive God too for having allowed me to go through real tough times or taking too long to help me be delivered from tough situations etc. Next was to ask God and others to forgive me for what I did or did not do – all within the confines of my heart. I felt lighter, my head was clearer and was peaceful. I then heard the Lord prompt me to pray for all those who I forgave. It was easy to say a single prayer for the lot of them. God may require me to go to others and ask for their forgiveness in person, but at this time, this was all I could do. Sometimes, unforgiveness can be a root of a lot of uneasiness and restlessness within us. Its like a rumbling volcano that the enemy stirs to take the wrong action of retaliation or revenge. But God’s Spirit is always present to nudge us in the right direction and gently call us to greater heights. Many choose to be unforgiving, we can reason why we have the right to withhold forgiveness. BUT is anything worth being unforgiven back by our Heavenly Father and Lord? Do we want to miss out on His blessings, peace and goodwill? Do we want Him to keep us far away because we will not forgive those who hurt or offended us? Our Saviour Lord Jesus was beaten, tormented, cursed, spat upon, whipped, forsaken and hung on the Cross bearing our sins and shame and He cried out “Father forgive them….” If He can do it, so can we. Come, let us choose to forgive. If you find it hard, please talk to Him, share your struggles, call Crossroads or others to pray for you. Finally, this is the serious part - if you do not forgive others, God is not going to forgive you for your mistakes and we all make them. If I died today, I knew God would forgive me for my faults and failings. It made me question – ‘Could my past unforgiveness be the block in receiving the breakthroughs I was seeking?’ I think so! Am excited to see how God changes my life from this day forth. On another note, I have read about God not forgiving us, if we do not forgive others in the Bible. I have prayed the Our Father often, but it did not hit home until I read the blog which stated boldly – IF WE DO NOT FORGIVE OTHERS, THEN OUR HEAVENLY FATHER WILL NOT FORGIVE US! As I type, I can truly say a mighty weight has lifted off me. I pray this testimony will be the turning point in your life too.
The Ten Commandments Of Wealth Building Discover the Ten Key Principles to Build True Wealth (Surprise! It’s about a lot more than just making money) https://financialmentor.com/category/true-wealth
1st Wealth Building Principle: Get Deeply Motivated Money is a shallow motivator — too shallow to drive you deep enough to achieve success. The problem is financial wealth is an external goal with benefits limited to the world outside of you. Money buys things, but money doesn’t buy happiness. It can build you a prettier prison, but it can’t get you out of prison. The inherent limits of external goals (fancy houses, cars, and big bank accounts) similarly limits how motivated you will be when pursuing them. To succeed in building wealth, you want to be driven by internal goals deeper than just the external trappings of wealth. You want a cause that will bring transformation to your life and drive you deep enough to overcome all the obstacles that stand between you and financial freedom. Internally-driven goals that might focus your attention long enough to succeed include the following: Freedom: Break loose from the shackles of daily labor so that you have more time to grow, create, and live to your fullest potential. Charity: The more you have the more you can give. Charitable foundations created by wealthy families often provide the financial muscle to empower great social and environmental causes. Growth: When you have financial freedom, you also have more time to pursue personal freedom. The wealth in your external world becomes a mirror to the wealth in your internal world. The principles that lead to financial wealth can also lead to true wealth by affecting other areas of your life. Leadership: Grow your own wealth ethically and joyfully so that you can lead by example for friends and family to rise above the bonds of financial mediocrity and follow in your footsteps. The reason deeper causes are essential is because building wealth isn’t easy. You will encounter many problems that must be overcome along your journey to financial freedom. You will pay a price to reach your goal. To stay the course long enough to succeed, you must be motivated by a commitment that runs deeper than just the lifestyle that money can buy. This step-by-step course to financial freedom can help you find your “why” to propel you toward your goal. BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR PART 2
This Article has truly bless me, this is a must read for my brothers Manpower--A Man's Man by David Jesse Mens Issues Dad was a "man's man:" A passionate fisherman; skilled woodworker; avid gun collector; grease monkey. In the summers, he and his buddies would drive to Canada and spend days fishing for bass and trout. He could build and repair cabinetry like a professional. His collection of World War II-era guns was something he prized. He rebuilt a Corvair engine in our basement. When I think of what a prototypical American dad is supposed to be, I think of my Dad. And he never taught me how to do any of it. I was what you might call an "accident." By the time I came around, Dad was in his forties, and doing everything he could to simply keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. He no longer had time for any of those passions. He worked 70 to 80 hours a week. When he wasn't working, he was a volunteer minister of music at church. So for most of my childhood, Dad was the guy trying to catch 4 or 5 hours of sleep, or the guy leading the singing on Sunday. Other than that, I didn't see Dad except for a few hours on Saturday when I would tag along with him on errands he had to run. I went fishing with Dad only twice. He never trusted me with a saw or a hammer and nails. I only fired a gun with Dad one time. And when the car needed work, the last thing he wanted to do was slow things down trying to teach me how to change the oil or spark plugs. Today you won't find a fishing pole, table saw, gun, or wrench set anywhere in my garage. I guess I'm supposed to be disappointed by this. A dad is supposed to teach his sons how to do these things. Most men's fondest memories of their fathers are those times building something together; hunting or fishing on a camping trip; or working together to get the engine to crank. Not me. But rather than looking back on my relationship with Dad as less than ideal, I see a more important legacy: one of faith, family, and finishing strong. I never had to wonder if Dad loved Jesus. He expressed that in every moment of every day. He talked about Jesus to coworkers and customers constantly. He demanded excellence in the way the church worshipped on Sunday. His Bible was always on his night stand. He didn't have lots of time for friends, but when one needed him, he was always there. As best as he could, he lived the life he was given the way Jesus would have. I never had to wonder if Dad loved his family. He was a hard man. He demanded perfection from his wife and children, and we seldom lived up to his expectations. But on Saturday, he always took me to get a malted milkshake from the drugstore. He showed up at every piano recital I ever had. And when any of us kids walked away from God, he firmly but lovingly disciplined us, and when that didn't work, prayed us back into our Father's arms. Finally, I'll never have to wonder if Dad finished strong. A few short months after retiring, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. He was told he had six months to live. So he began making sure his ledger was clear. He called those with whom he had broken relationships and righted them. He made preparations for my mom to be taken care of. And most importantly, he found a way to share Jesus with those he loved, even after his death. So as I sat at his bedside throughout the dark night before he was birthed into eternity, I never had to doubt what awaited him on the other side. He closed his eyes in this world, and opened them in the next to see his Savior's face.
Dealing With Family Pressure As a Wife and a Mother by Ngozi Nwoke Family Family pressure is what we all experience at one time or another but our response or reaction determines what follows next. This article tells us how to deal with family pressure. Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; By knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches. (Proverbs 24:3-4 NKJV) And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him." (Genesis 2:18 NKJV) What is pressure? Dictionary defines it as the act of pressing or a state of demanding notice or attention. It can also be defined as an oppressive condition of physical, mental, social or economic distress. What is Family Pressure? It can therefore be defined as pressure coming from the family members or on a family. As a wife and mother, I can imagine some of the causes of this pressure. Financial issues Lack of gainful employment Challenges from the office Desire to engage in Self improvement Demands from your children Responsibilities as a wife, mother and a homemaker External causes- extended family issues Children's Holiday time! What do you do? Everything and everybody is pressing and pressing; asking for attention, and some of them may have started oppressing you spiritually, physically, mentally, socially or economically. What do you do? Start by understanding your purpose in the family and prioritizing your responsibilities according to God's standard. The virtuous woman in Proverbs 31:10-31 is a perfect example for you. Her secrets were wisdom, diligence and fear of The Lord. These three can deflate any pressure on your life. As a married woman I believe your priority should be first your relationship with God, secondly husband and children, and lastly others - any other assignment from God, our businesses, careers etc. Women are made in such a way that once your relationship with God is intact you have the strength, ability to do so many things at the same time and still be at your best without pressure. When you seek God's wisdom, knowledge and understanding, everyday will come and pass and you will be smiling and laughing throughout the day, even though you would have done a lot of things during the day. Always bear in mind you are a helpmate to your husband, so the money you are making or you want to make is to help him! And so should not take the place of more important things in the family.

Dating the Christian Way by Janet Riley Dating
Dating ---Dating
I am trying to date the Christian way. Before I was following Jesus as a adult, I was very self-centered. I dated several men in college, and then went onto to the next one when I was ready, without any real consideration of their feelings. After my adult commitment to follow Christ, I decided that I was not going to "date" in that way any more. I decided that I was going to ask God to pick out a partner for me. I did not want to wind up divorced like my parents did. The main concept of dating seemed to be a series of relationships, and if they did not work out, you broke off with the person. That did not seem to me a way to learn to have a permanent, committed relationship. I got impatient, and tired of waiting for God to pick a partner for me. I started to date someone, and God told me that was not the person He had for me. I broke up with him, before our emotions got too involved, and decided to wait. Later, I met my husband at a prayer meeting. At the meeting, God told him that I was his future wife. God told me one week later that he was my future husband. Knowing that God picked us for each other really helped us over some tough spots in our marriage. My husband loved me for who I was, unconditionally, with all my quirks and faults. I respected him for his love of God and the way God used him to lead us together in life. We were open and honest about each other's medical conditions, finances, and other issues. Fast forward about 30 years, and now I am a widow. I am going to adopt the same approach, and not "date" just to be going out with men. It is not fair to the man, if I am really not the one for him or if he is not the one for me. I realize this time around God may put someone in my life in a new way, perhaps through some Christian internet dating sites. I am going to be open and honest with anyone that I communicate with. I will not let my emotions control my relationship decisions. I would rather be single than in a marriage God did not want me in.
There is a part inside us that only God can satisfy. We have to be careful to not expect a spouse or any other human to fill that spot. God has to be first, and only then will the relationship be right between friends or marital partners. (C) Janet Riley, 2014. I know God as a personal God who communicates with us, if we listen. I am starting on a Christian writing career and open to where God leads me. Please review my other articles at FaithWriters. I would like to hear from you. Please email at jriley4141@yahoo.com.
God Gives Beauty for Ashes by stephanie reck Womens Interest To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them BEAUTY FOR ASHES, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:3 God is a restorer and a redeemer. God can take all the ugly and hurtful things that have happened in our lives and transform them into something beautiful. No matter what your life has been like, abuse, abandonment, rejection, or trauma, God can take the pain and rebuild your life. If you have experienced deep sorrow, and you feel worthless and hopeless, hold onto God's Word that He gives beauty for ashes. Ashes are the occurrences in our lives that have caused us much grief, agony, and heartache. God has a plan to repair the ruins in your life. Some people have endured deep scars from sexual, physical, or mental abuse, and they feel they could never be whole or complete, but God trades the wounds and misery for His rebuilding and completeness. God never waste hurt, if you have been affected by suffering through abuse, rape, sexual assault, or any other traumatic life experiences, God desires to bring you renewal. God can take the most devastating things that have happened in your life, and renovate you and use you to bring recovery and hope to others. God will not only repair you from brokenness but He will use you to help others overcome their damaged lives. God has a purpose for your life and He will cause something magnificent to come from the distress of your life. God desires to deliver you from the things in your past that weigh you down and cause you much heaviness. Many times, people that have a history of affliction begin to self-heal and self-medicate the pain through numerous addictions, such as alcohol, drugs, and food, but God wants to repair all of your painful memories and bring deliverance from these dependencies. God will help you work through the uncomfortable remembrances, one at a time, and He will lavish His unconditional love upon you and reconstruct you from the years of destruction. Do not be concerned what your former years were like or even what you have done, God can rectify the most distressing events in your life. There is a reason for your existence, and God has a plan for your anguish. So many people, including myself, have helped so many individuals with their devastating life circumstances because we have not only gone through the encounters but we have allowed God to redeem, recondition and repair us. God does give beauty for ashes.
4 of 5 Simple Steps To A Healthier Lifestyle By Laiza King https://www.huffingtonpost.com/laiza-king-/5-simple-steps-to-a-healt_1_b_10636840.html The time is about right for a half year review and if your New Year health resolution didn’t get past the first week of January, relax, let’s try again. There are several things you can do to live a better lifestyle, from following a healthy diet to exercising regularly. The ultimate focus should be on living a life that you can be proud of, while also avoiding health problems; or reverse them if they already exist. If you’re still in doubt, think about how living a healthy lifestyle can benefit you ten years down the line. When your focus is on the purpose of living healthy, then you’ll start acting right by taking steps towards making it a reality. Below are some ways you can start living a healthy lifestyle today. 1. Exercise and Sleep well: Exercise and quality sleep go together. With the right exercise routine, good sleeping habits and nutrition, you can live a healthy lifestyle that positively impacts your entire life. Sleep is also an important remedy to certain health challenges like stress and over eating. Well rested people have more control of their appetite; the longer you stay awake, the more likely you are to get hungry anyway. A decent 7-hour sleep is recommended for healthy living. Research actually shows that physical activity impacts overall quality of sleep. 2. Personal hygiene: Mouth or body odor announces you in a really bad way; you do not want people taking three steps back for every step you take towards them. You have to practice those hygiene instructions strictly - “brush your teeth, especially your tongue twice a day”, “take a bath with soap at least once a day”, “floss daily”. Avoid smelly food and drinks like onions, garlic and alcohol. Drink more water and chew gum to prevent bad breath. Use antiperspirant to reduce sweating, change and wash your clothes regularly and let your shoes air dry. Women already shave armpit hair, men should too; it keeps your pores open and gives no room to bacteria. 3. Eat Healthy Foods: Choose foods that contains minimal amounts of unhealthy fats, low sugar and organic ingredients. Minimize your consumption of sweets, but instead choose whole fruits, freshly-squeezed juices, and whole grain bread instead. The trick to weight loss and staying fit is knowing that calories burnt should exceed calories taken in. It is important not to starve yourself because you quickly pile up the pounds when you feed that ravenous hunger at a go. Instead, eat little portions of healthy foods 5-6 times a day.
4. Laugh: The good old medicine of the soul has been tested and proven by scientists over the decades. Laughter will relieve stress, improve your mood, prevent heart disease and even boost your immunity. If you are anxious or afraid, try smiling often and laughing. It also makes you more attractive and strengthens relationships; so what are you waiting for, laugh already.
