A Matter of Character and Trust: The Problem With Lies by Cate Russell-Cole
A Matter of Character & Trust: The Problem with Lies by Cate Russell-Cole Going through David's life, there are some parts which bother me and one is his dance with the truth. David told three major lies to get out of trouble in his early life: 1. to the Priests at Nob; [Ref. 1 Samuel 21, Nob and point 2.] 2. when he first fled into Philistine territory and had to feign madness to escape, and 3. when he deceived the Philistine King Achish, whilst attempting to avoid Saul's persistent persecution. [Ref. 1 Samuel chapters 27 and 29] Despite the severity of the circumstances which led him to lie, they leave me with a really bad impression of his character. Was lying a nasty trait which followed him through life? As so much of David's life was marked by outstanding faith and he was righteous, his lies stand out even more. They have had me questioning just how far he could be trusted, especially as some Middle Eastern cultures approve of habitual lying to save face. So I decided to delve into the matter further, to try and comprehend why he sinned that way. Logically, I can understand why he lied those three times: if you can't escape by fight or flight, you lie, and any of us would be very hard pressed not to react the same way when backed into a corner with our life at stake. However, David is supposed to be a type of Jesus: a human who exhibits the character of God, teaching us what God is like and that we can trust Him. Repeated incidents of lying threaten to destroy that.
Looking at lying from a psychological angle, the size of the consequences of not telling the lie determine how serious the offence is. If a protective lie saves you from death, it is easily forgivable, as it wasn't casual deception which foretells deep moral character flaws. If David wasn't lying for financial or power gains, or to bolster his ego, his lies can be considered as unwise without deeply tarnishing him. In 1 Samuel 24:5 we can see that David was well aware of what was right and wrong, and would self-correct, so I am led to continue to trust him.
5 (Cont’d on next page)
But whenever I read about David, I expect to see him react with faith, looking for God to help him as he did with Goliath, not legging it into enemy territory and lying to save his hide. He is to be the best David, flawless through and through to not disappoint me but that expectation doesn't take a key fact into account: this time in his life featured a hard growth curve on the path to spiritual maturity. He was growing up and messing up along the way, as he struggled to build his trusting, God-dependent spiritual nature. His later character traits which produced the Psalms were in the process of being forged in the furnace of much affliction, and like all of us, he started out weak, then through hard lessons, became stronger. I have no idea how bad he felt about his deceptions, though I am sure he must have deeply regretted the consequences of his flight to the priests at Nob, (Saul massacred them in revenge). Living in Philistine territory must have also been an arduous task that he gritted his teeth through and hated. No one chooses to live with the enemy unless they believe that this is the only option left. God hadn't delivered him yet, and David had yet to learn to wait no matter what. The events of this long period, (from Nob to Gath was around seven years or so,) had to have awakened an awareness that he had to be totally dependent on the Lord for safety and deliverance; if not, he would only get himself, and others, into greater trouble. It would be an agonizing experience to watch people die and suffer because of you, as you found your way through the maze of choices, striving to grow. I feel a deep compassion for him. The bad parts of David's story are as helpful to us as the good. This portion of David's life reminds me that need I to be patient and encouraging with people while they are growing. They are going to make some big, serious mistakes; but blaming people and judging without understanding what they were feeling and where they were coming from is useless. Thinking about what David did, I cant excuse his wrongs, but I can appreciate the stress he was under and where he was in his spiritual journey. I'm just glad that he came through safely to leave us with his testimony to the Lords great patience with us as we overcome our own failings, no matter how many times we fall apart as were learning. A psalm of David, the servant of the LORD. He sang this song to the LORD on the day the LORD rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul. He sang: I love You, LORD; You are my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the LORD, Who is worthy of praise, and He saved me from my enemies. The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path. But in my distress I cried out to the LORD; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from His sanctuary He reached down from heaven and rescued me; He drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me. They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the LORD supported me. He led me to a place of safety; He rescued me because He delights in me. The LORD rewarded me for doing right; He restored me because of my innocence.
For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not turned from my God to follow evil. I have followed all His regulations; I have never abandoned His decrees. I am blameless before God; I have kept myself from sin. The LORD rewarded me for doing right. He has seen my innocence. To the faithful You show Yourself faithful; to those with integrity You show integrity. To the pure You show Yourself pure, but to the wicked You show Yourself hostile. You rescue the humble, but You humiliate the proud. You light a lamp for me The LORD lives! Praise to my Rock! May the God of my salvation be exalted! For this, O LORD, I will praise You among the nations; I will sing praises to Your Name. You give great victories to Your king; You show unfailing love to Your anointed, to David and all his descendants forever. Psalm 18:1-6, 16-28 and 49-50

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: CORNIETA WHITFIELD & WARM UP THE CITY Cornieta A. Whitfield, the wife of Reverend Brandon L. Whitfield, is not only a wife and a Registered Nurse but an Entrepreneur. Traveling from the country of Jamaica, she understands what it means to live without but dream of better. At the age of 8, she came to the United States with a language barrier that pushed her to overcome the negative and critical words of her peers and teachers, who labeled her as someone who would not make it. She went on to earn her Bachelors of Science in Nursing while being a student-athlete at the University of Connecticut and is currently pursuing her Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling. On March 2016, she took the risk to follow her heart and dreams, knowing that it was only the beginning of many more opportunities to make a difference. She started Speak Life Foundation LLC, a small business located in the city of Danbury that focus on helping people reach their full potential. She believes that everyone was created with purpose; however, many need a little encouragement on how to find the purpose that lies within. As a motivational speaker who speaks on various topics such as overcoming depression and suicidal ideations, relationship advice/courtship, woman empowerment, dream motivation, and spiritual empowerment, she thrives on the ability to make a difference. Cornieta relates to most people she meets thanks to her life experiences, which include being an immigrant, struggling with the language barrier, miscarrying her twin boys while 5 months pregnant, and her strong faith in God. She believes that nothing happens without a reason, and is taking the opportunity to share her story with others so that they may overcome as well. Cornieta believes one of the best parts of taking the risk to following your dreams to become an entrepreneur is not just satisfying your own desires but having the opportunity to provide jobs for others and give back to the community. Growing up in Jamaica, where life was not easy, she has learned the importance of community. It is there she learned the importance of not being selfish in your endeavors but instead to seek out opportunities to help your neighbor. She believes that God entrusts the vision to those who he believes will not be self-seeking but selfless and influential. She believes she is one of them. (Cont’d on next page.)

Speak Life Foundation LLC will be hosting their second year of Warm Up the City. It is a community outreach program that focus on providing hygiene items and warm clothing for the Winter to our homeless neighbors. It all started with a dream where a homeless individual was roaming the streets and she did nothing. After waking from the dream, she sought how she could manifest the vision God had given her. Last year she partnered with Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, having volunteers aid in the kitchen while others passed out items to each individual who arrived for help. In all, Speak Life Foundation LLC touched the lives of 80 individuals last year. With the help of a local store called Primark, who donated 100 bags, Stop and Shop who donated gifts cards for food, and the help of the community, they raised over $600 and collected various items. It was such a success that she could not imagine not continuing the work that is needed in the city. Giving back is not only what we are encouraged to do through the scriptures but it is a gratifying feeling to know you are the hands and feet of Christ. This year, she plans to expand Speak Life Foundation LLC’s community outreach by providing food and health resources, tips on blood pressure monitoring and education, along with hygiene items and warm wear. The organization’s goal is to become a pillar in the community, where they will focus on helping people reach their full potential. In the near future, their hopes are to provide other outreach opportunities for minorities, woman, and the youth via seminars, events, and more, along with the hopes of providing jobs for many. It is easy to be selfish when we pursue our goals; however, the real purpose of God giving you a vision is so that you can be influential to others. That is Speak Life Foundation LLC’s goal.

What Makes A Man? by Stephen Kimball What makes a man? In some cultures, a child is believed to make the transition to manhood at the ripe old age of 13. In the minds of many in this country the arbitrary age is 18, when you can enter military service. Some people believe the age to be 21, when you can legally drink alcohol. But one doesn’t just snap his fingers and suddenly find that he has become a man, when one day ago he was a child. Without question, being an adult male does not necessarily equal being a man. Sadly, many stretch their childhood well into their 20’s or 30’s and for some, manhood may never come at all. Others designate manhood based on things other than age, like the onset of puberty or loss of virginity or killing your first wildebeest or taking on the responsibility of a job or perhaps graduation or marriage, or fatherhood. Actually, there is no milestone in and of itself, no matter how significant, that signifies manhood. Becoming a man is a process A process by which you discover the meaning of manhood for yourself. A process you are actually well into at this point in your life whether you recognize it or not. Hopefully, this letter will help you to really begin to think about it and formulate your own convictions on what it really means to be a man. The world has many misconceptions about what manhood looks like. So before we get to the real qualifications, let’s first take a look at a few of these erroneous, stereotypical expressions of manhood we see in our society today, as they speak to what true manhood is not! As previously stated, age is not a factor. Neither, your appearance; how tall, dark and handsome you are, how much hair you can grow on your face or chest, how big your biceps are or how pretty your girlfriend is. It’s not about your personality; how charismatic you are, how driven you are or how endearing your sense of humor. It is not about how talented or athletic you are; if you can build the biggest tower, run the fastest race, or bag the biggest buck. It’s not about how “well rounded” you are with your knowledge of current events or politics. Not even your sports knowledge is an indicator. I mean what does it really matter who the UFC champ is, or how well your fantasy football team does? It’s not about your education; what your SAT score is or what degree you hold (or are in pursuit of). It’s not about money; how much stuff you amass, what your address is or how big and dirty your truck or your dog is. It’s not about conquering a woman or a video game. It’s not about how well you follow or don’t follow the “rules”. It’s not about whether you hold a position of leadership at your school, work, social club or even in the church. No, manhood cannot truly be defined by any position, possession or accomplishment. Neither is it determined by any physical or mental attribute or capability whatsoever. Here’s where we must make the distinction between how the world defines manhood and what it means to be a man who is a follower of Jesus Christ – a man of God. It’s easy to be deceived, especially at such a young age, into thinking that success or popularity equals “manhood”. But do not be deceived! The God who created you and knows you intimately, looks beneath the surface into the recesses of the heart, and what really matters is what he sees in there. Lose that perspective and begin to live your life with the ideals of the world, guided by your own selfish desires, and fall short of what God has planned for your life. On the other hand, live life with an undying deep desire to understand the heart of God and to walk in the wisdom of His Word and you will end up all the man he intends you to be. My advice is strive to be the man God intends you to be. So what are the qualities or characteristics that make up the true definition of manhood and how do you begin to acquire them? (Cont’d on next page.)

Remember, these things are a part of you on the inside – your character. There is no switch you can flip where you are suddenly endowed with moral and ethical strength. As you live life with an eternal perspective, guided by God in all you do, faith and experience will lead you to a greater and greater realization of these attributes. First, it’s important to hone in on what values you believe to be most important to live by. Think about them – write them down. They may be different in your home or in your heart but at our home our family values are on display in our dining room where everyone can be reminded of them. And we often refer to them when one or more gets broken. They are as follows: love God, family first, tell the truth, work hard, be kind and forgive. It’s not so much a list it’s more of a flow chart. “Love God” is in the center and each of the others flows from that most important relationship. Once you decide for yourself what values you see as imperative, then live your life adhering to them without compromise. Any man I have ever looked up to as someone I would want to emulate in life has been a man of conviction - someone who lived what he believed. I challenge you to be that kind of a man. (Cont’d on next page.) There are certain universal, altruistic characteristics of the man of God. Namely, the man of God is not self-centered, he is Christ centered. He is not self-controlled, he is Christ-controlled. He is not self-righteous, he lives his life with humility. He is not self-reliant but has an unwavering faith and dependency on God’s Word. He is not self-confident, he is confident that God is his strength in his weakness. Understanding the sovereignty of God, He is not a “self-made man” but has an awareness that without the hand of God in his life he would be destitute in every way. This is an overarching, God centered perspective that guides the man of God to do the right thing for the right reasons. The true measure of a man is what’s on the inside. It is his strength of character and integrity and it becomes apparent in a myriad of ways: In a strong work ethic, in how one bears up under difficult circumstances, if you are a man of your word, honest, courageous, kind, respectful, helpful, compassionate, loving, humble, forgiving, responsible, teachable, generous, discerning, wise. If I could impart one thing to you from the bottom of my heart to yours it would be to fortify your mind and heart with the sure foundation of God’s Word. Love it, seek to understand it and apply it and you will continue to see the fruit, that God has already planned for your life, come to pass. He will use you in great ways – in ways you may never even be aware of - for His glory and at the end of the day you will be honored, by God, in this life and beyond, for being the man that God intended you to be. May you be blessed, all your days, in all your pursuits.

How To Influence Your Kids' Behavior by Abby Kelly How about a new spin on, "What you see is what you get"? For decades, law makers, scientists, parents and teachers have debated the impact of violent movies and video games on behavior. In 1972, the Surgeon General actually issued this statement: "It is clear to me that the causal relationship between televised violence and antisocial behavior is sufficient to warrant appropriate and immediate remedial action. There comes a time when the data are sufficient to justify action. That time has come."" (Steinfeld, 1972). Since then, many additional studies have reached the same conclusion, not to mention thousands of parents can attest to the evidence in their own homes. Just last year, JAMA Pediatrics published an article on the subject. Among the highlights of their findings: "Violent video game playing was significantly associated with aggressive cognitions and aggressive behaviors among boys and girls." (Medscape.org) The findings are disturbing, and certainly there is plenty of Scriptural wisdom to not only support these statements, but also to combat the violent trend in our culture. What's even more awesome, in the infinite effectiveness of God's Word, the principles we find there to turn this tide, can be used to precipitate other positive changes as well. Psalm 119:9 says, "How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word." Psalm 119:11 says, "I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.“ (Cont’d on the next page.)
12
In order to avoid sin of all kinds, including violent behavior, Scripture tells us that we must instill God's Word in our hearts and keep our lives according to His principles. But how do we do that? How do we wire our children's minds with biblical truth? In the same way that their minds are consumed, indoctrinated by and even unconsciously controlled by movies and video games we change what they see. Applying what scientific research discovered about the impact of violent visual images on children's behavior, it follows that true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent and praiseworthy images will influence predictable, God-honoring behavior. (Philippians 4:8) It seems that more than 2000 years before science started researching the connection between visual stimuli and behavior, God revealed the truth in His Word: "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light " (Matthew 6:22). If we want our children to grow up to love the Lord with all of their hearts, souls, minds and strength, and others as themselves, we must now select the things that will invariably program their minds and therefore future behavior. Psalm 119:37 tells us, "Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways." If we long for our children to have life, even obey their parents and celebrate long life, we must choose for them, at a young age, what to set before their eyes.

Dear Educator The Academy of Music Theater has opened their doors once again on October 11th and 12th, 2017, for a field trip for students in grades K-12 (college students are also encouraged) to attend the production of “From the Boat to Obama & Beyond.” We hope that all will be able to come and experience American history in a whole new innovative and theatrical way. Students will watch as forcibly displaced Africans evolve into African Americans through skits, poetry, songs and dance. The production celebrates the achievements of African Americans throughout the world and entertainingly educates a diverse generation about the contributions of African Americans in the United States and abroad. What is “From the Boat to Obama?” The production is a shining example of musical ethnic theater, complete with amazing dance numbers, period wardrobe, eminently remarkable songs, plus touching poetry, oracle presentations, etc. The Musical highlights notable, historic moments in the African-American experience. The play brings to life the richness of Africa's cultures transplanted in other countries and America. The production captures enslavement and removal of Africans from their native home land via the Atlantic passage. From there the audience is taken on a journey over the gulfs of time from the 18th century to the modern day world as we know it. This production moves in a historical wave. Starting from the burning of the Black Wall Street, slaves shipped to Spain and Jamaica, reconstruction, inventions and creations, the Sixteen Street Church experience, and ending with the accomplishments of President Barack Obama. The objective of “From the Boat to Obama” is to help all students increase their comprehension of history, diversity, and appreciation of and respect of all cultural differences. We believe in the power of art to transform lives of young people. We believe the benefits of the musical and theatrical arts disciplines can provide: diversity awareness, promote self-esteem, positive cultural appreciation, and expose students to the educational benefits of the integrated arts. Our mission is to bridge the educational gap for children who are not adequately exposed to the arts in conjunction with teaching expressive dance, which enables our youth to develop their creativity, awareness and self-esteem through knowledge and accomplishments in the performing arts.
As a growing organization, we envision achieving the following programming objectives as we develop new, diverse theatrical projects: • • • •
• •
Build self-confidence; teach children how to focus while maintaining self-control and discipline. Clarify the misconceptions pertaining to the arts due to lack of exposure and information. Create positive and meaningful relationships within the community. Present non-traditional theater that showcases the vibrant diversity of the Greater Hartford community. Encourage family involvement and new audience participation by providing Quality Theater that is culturally diverse. Assist schools in meeting statutory obligation to teach about diverse culture and historical experiences.
The cast of From The Boat To Obama & Beyond is returning October 11th and 12th, 2017, to the Academy of Music with a new theme: “PAYING IT FORWARD”.
This year we are asking students and teachers to get involved with their community by supplying the needs of those less fortunate. Those that are in need of a pair of socks or a t-shirt but cannot afford it. We believe by having students share their hearts with children in their age group, they become a part of making the world a better place and show others we are capable of giving, helping and learning outside of the classroom and the home.
Please email us or call 860-888-6597 for your seats. Again, the only cost of a seat is an item from the list. If a student cannot provide an item, that will not stop them from attending. Please share this information with fellow educators and indicate which day your school will attend: Wednesday the 11th or Thursday the 12th at 10:00am Please see the list below: Socks, t-shirts, pencils, paper, crayon, note book, pens, rulers, calculators
For more information, please call 860-888-6597 between 11:00am and 4:00pm or send an email to transforminganew@gmail.com. Ask how you may obtain seats for your school by giving back to those in your community that are in need.
The items should be placed in a box with the school name and address, principal’s name, teacher’s name.
Thank you,
Your items with go to shelters that house parents with children. Once your box is received, you will receive a thank you letter from the location it was delivered to.

Unconditional Love by Sonja Mattison
Love for someone should never be conditional. It should be approached with integrity and wholeheartedness. When we are compassionate towards others our compassion should be permanent via our heart. We should not base our love for someone based on whether their love is reciprocal for us. We should do otherwise. Just as God loves us without judgment, we should do the same with our family, friends, acquaintances, or anybody. Even when we are betrayed by a friend or acquaintance our love should remain because we are beings of God and should behave in the same manner as Him. Unconditional love is a form of unselfishness, which is an excellent trait to have when we love. It is not necessary to expect love from those we love. Loving without question only strengthens our heart. Unconditional love is a form of unselfishness, which is an excellent trait to have when we love. It is not necessary to expect love from those we love. Loving without question only strengthens our heart. To love is to honor God and receive only blessings from the act itself. God created love for us to love one another channeled through him. By His grace we can love “perfectly through our own imperfections. We should live by the standards of unconditional love and strive to create a harmonious world.

The New London Youth Talent Show Returns for Its 8th Year On October 29, 2010, the brutal murder of Matthew Chew rocked New London. Many hurtful, negative, racially charged things were said about the youth of New London. A very broad brush was used to paint us as “thugs”. As anyone who reads the papers knows, “thug” has become code for the “N” word. The message from many of our neighbors, both here in New London as well as in the surrounding towns, seemed to be that the actions of a few painted all of us in the same negative light. From the nadir of that moment in our city was born the New London Youth Talent Show. The first year, in March of 2011, we sold out the 1450-seat Garde Theater at the Garde Arts Center, the region’s non-profit center for the performing arts and education. In fact, we had to turn away over 200 people. We were determined that we would not be defined by the senseless murder but that our city, instead, would be defined by our reaction to it. In the second year, we decided to go regional. We strongly believed that our differences were our strengths. We also strongly and firmly believed that bridges would be built through the arts, such as singing, dancing, and spoken word. That year, we knew we were right when we watched a country western singer take stage directions from a hip-hop artist,. Now on our 8th anniversary, we reach beyond New London County and have taken a global approach to spreading our message. We continue to bridge gaps and supply opportunity for the artists across the region. We will continue to build bridges with the likes of radio station Jammin 107.7; national recording acts like Season 9 semifinalist of the Voice, Braiden Sunshine; partnerships with multiple school districts; the Garde Arts Center; Kitchings foundation; police departments; sports teams; arts-based programs in NYC; the State of CT; and many more,.
New London Youth Talent Show numbers over the years: • 75 kids participate yearly (average) • Over 15 SECT towns/cities represented in the show • Over $40,000 donated to support art-based activities and opportunities • Over 7,500 tickets sold and counting • 80 kids fed twice a week (Over 75% of participants qualify for free or reduced lunch) • 80% of participants are under the age of 25 • Each volunteer/coach averages 150 hours of community service hours per Talent Show Calendar Year • Our volunteers now include returning participants giving back to the community regularly 17
Reflections By Shell Vera
Proverbs 8:17 “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.” What does it look like to diligently seek God? It says He loves those who love Him and those who diligently seek Him. God is out in the open — so why is seeking Him so tough? Does He hide in plain sight? We look for Him and He is there, but we miss Him right in front of us because our focus becomes distracted. Like when we walk into a room and forget why we have gone in there because we see something that we need to do. I am guilty of this because I have always feared intimacy and trust. The more I wanted to see Him, the more He said “Come to Me”, the more I could find to distract my time and all along He was there waiting for me to climb up in His lap and listen. Once I stopped allowing things to come between us, stopped allowing distractions, I realized how much I needed Him all that time. I found myself in a place of wondering why I’d allowed him to get covered up like a favorite book sitting on an unused chair. Acts 17:26-27 “And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us.”
In this, it mentions seeking after God and feeling our way to Him but notes He is not far from us. In fact, like a game of Marco Polo played in a kiddie pool, he is standing there all along, waiting for US to remove OUR blindfold… How sad to think all these years I’ve wanted to be in this place where my soul truly longs for Him yet kept myself from Him because I wouldn’t reach right in front of me and remove the distraction!! Deuteronomy 4:29 “But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Thankfully, God wants to be sought after. He wants to be embraced. He LONGS for a relationship with us. Did you catch that? He LONGS for a relationship with US! This is so mind blowing and yet the change we will experience when we begin to press in proves HE is jealous for us! He wants all of us, not just pieces. And if we continue to press in and continue to allow Him to prune the junk, set fire to roots, relationships, and tasks that don’t belong in our lives, then we will see His will walked out perfectly in our lives Are you seeking Him with your all? Let’s walk his journey together and surrender to ALL He has for us!

Pastors, are you looking to cultivate great leaders? Let us come and facilitate the college-level training for your people. Heart Bible Institute will come to you. Our focus is to train kingdomminded leaders who know how to serve their local church.
UPCOMING ARTIST: JONATHAN CUNNINGHAM For Jonathan Cunningham, it all began in his hometown: Hartford, CT. There, he functioned as Worship Leader of Heart of God Healing Center, founded by his mother, Apostle Dornett Abdullah. Jonathan has a great love for music but was known to be in the background. He never wanted the spotlight. Jonathan finally had to use his gift when the main musician of their church left unexpectedly. Little did he know that God had relocated that young man so Jonathan could step into his rightful place.
Most of his tenure at Heart of God Healing Center entailed leading worship weekly and managing the various entities of the Worship Department. In 2017, Jonathan released “Revive”, his debut album. With a beautiful, unique sound, he shares a raw story of his life. Songs like “You Came for Me” and “Redemption” bring you into his story as though you were sitting across from him in conversation.
More than an artist, Jonathan is passionate about mentorship. He is always looking for ways to give back. He is the founder of "A Star is Born Productions“, a program that introduces children to music. Jonathan is currently in school in CA at Bethel Supernatural School of Ministry. He has produced many upcoming artists and is currently working on his second album. 22
Are you interested in investing in someone’s future? Jonathan is worth your time and money. He is already in process of starting the next album. We need your help! If you can, he would love your support!
Help me reach 10,000 views on YouTube by sharing and watching my Videos watch for a min counts as a view :) https://www.youtube.com/user/jxc600 I started singing at the age of 19 with a worship team, and I quickly became inspired by one of my bros Winston Davidson, and it wasn’t long before I discovered nothing could stop me singing! From that point on I always had the tendency to make beats, but it was when I met my producer that my dreams became reality. Isaiah Padgett was the man who brought me to a place where I believed in my voice. He gave me a lens through which I could see my potential! He motivated me to move into production myself. Since then, I have had the pleasure of producing the work of other budding artists.

Book Nook: An Interview with Spoken Word Artist MVP (Robert Velez, Jr.) Back in April, MVP: Most Valuable Poet: released his first poetry book. As a proud Tiano, Black, Puerto Rican man from the Bronx, he shares poetry that expresses a woman’s worth and his views on God and going deeper in his relationship, as well as challenges readers to press in to all God has for them. We caught up with MVP this month and asked him some questions.
What is the name of your book and when was it released? Most Valuable Poet Presents Volume 1: Robert Velez, Jr. aka MVP: Most Valuable Poet What are three things you want your audience to know about you? I’m a man of God/Jesus, authentic, and fearless What got you started with writing poetry? I was invited to a premiere of the film “ To Be Heard” about three young people struggling to make it out of the Bronx ( great movie ). I met the Director (God bless his soul) Roland Laura, and he introduced the website (www.powerpoetry.org) that focuses on power of expression. I started writing in 2012, and haven’t looked back since. What is your message to this world, in four sentences or less? Utilize the platform The Lord blesses you with for His greatness. Tell your own story before someone tells it for you. Tell us about your radio show. How do folks call in and connect with you? Every Thursday night at 8:30 pm, I DJ a show called “The Right Way” that embodies the importance of realness where we facilitate topics that raise awareness and brings unity to the forefront. You can call me at 347.855.8358, and speak your heart out through comments, a poem, perspectives, etc. I also introduce the show prior to speaking about the topics with a poem to captivate the audience in getting to know me. How do people reach you if interested in learning more? Buy my book on Amazon or find me on FaceBook.

Taylor is originally from the USA where she studied to be a teacher. She’s been travelling the world since 2015 and settling down in Latin America for long periods of time. Currently Taylor is living in Medellín, Colombia and spent the month of July in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. 1. What is your location independent job? I’m the founder of Remote Like Me, a membership site which helps people find and land remote jobs. I used to work as a Customer Success Manager for a SaaS company, which allowed me to live the Digital Nomad lifestyle. People started asking me how they could do it too. So, I decided to start Remote Like Me. 2. We met at the DNG Retreat in Las Palmas, yay! What made you join the retreat? This decision was way out of the norm for me. I always rolled my eyes at other programs that focus on working and travelling together, but when I saw that there was a DNG retreat, I was immediately interested. I’ve been a part of the DNG community for a while now and I really trust you (Jenny), the members, and its mission. I was drawn to the fact that it was in such a great location and I was dying to step foot in Spain. The affordable price really made it a nobrainer.
