Editor-in-Chief’s Note
It’s November! We are one month away from the end of the year. Have you accomplished the things that you set out to do this year? How are you feeling about your weight, your parenting goals, your relationship goals? How are you doing with savings and financial goals? While we cannot live in regret of what we did not accomplish, we can endeavor to make 2018 a better year by setting ourselves up for success in these last two months. November brings to us a time to celebrate and give thanks for our many blessings: the blessing of family, friends, and -- most importantly -- the blessing of life. As Thanksgiving approaches, take some time to reflect on the many blessings of 2017. As you read through this edition, take note of all you are thankful for and then head on over to our FaceBook page to share thoughts of your blessings with us! We at Heart to Heart Magazine want you to know we are thankful for you being a part of our lives and for continually reading and providing input to help us make this publication better for you. Happy November! 3
Having dedicated his life to the Lord, James had a vision of operating his own business while he and his son would be traveling the world. He believes they would not be locked down to anything. At first, he was thinking that this vision was too large for him to accomplish; but he held on and could not let go of the vision. A month later, he was desperately in search of a bed in a rehab program to get his life on track. At the last moment, he was able to get a bed in a program call New Life Discipleship Program located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. After 7 months of being in that program, James desperately wanted to work and was getting many offers for employment. One Monday, James spoke to the Program Management Manager, who shut the idea down immediately and told him to wait a while. James immediately went back into prayer. That Friday, God gave the Program Management Manager a change of heart. She called me into the office with an offer to work as a janitorial staff at the Black Rock Church. Through his faithfulness and commitment to his position, God used this as a the door to become the Facility Manager! James remembers being able to spend quality time in praise and worship with the Lord while cleaning the building. He was the one responsible for overseeing the set up and breakdown of all events in the facilities. While working there, he had many opportunities to share his testimony. He remembers vividly being at a men's breakfast where he shared his testimony with 150 men. He later had a divine encounter with a gentleman that asked him what was his desire was where ministry was concern. He proceeded to share his vision with the individuals and noted he would love to have a mentorship program for young men which would lead them into entrepreneurship. The gentleman suggested that he work with the Y youth program, which he did for a year. After that time, God opened the door for him to have his own business. Though he had one thing mind, his vision was fulfilled in a totally different way: A mobile pizza truck! He is truly grateful for the support of his church and for their constant commitment and dedication to what the Lord is doing in his life. He shared with us that he has never had a job or business where he was celebrated so much!
A PROFESSIONAL MOBILE PIZZA KITCHEN You'll find James in downtown Stamford, Connecticut, at his home location on Bedford Street, unless he’s rolling to a private catering event. When he’s at his home location, he'll be waiting for your order. Swing by to pick it up or he'll deliver it to you. (Sorry, the truck won't come to your house but he'll send a car and friendly driver!)

Here are Heart to Heart Magazine, we want to inspire deeper connections between you and God. While doing so, we believe you will find a way to come closer together and reconnect. Today, we are connected more than ever through social media and small computers in our pockets, but we have lost the art of conversation and relationship. As such, we challenge you this month to think about the relationships in your life for which you are thankful and those which you need to nourish more. Do you have friends you haven’t spoken to in a while? Do you have people in your life with whom you need to make things right? Do you have family members you need to forgive? This is the time of year when we can count our blessings and reflect upon what changes we want to make in the last two months of the year. Think about what you have done well and what you need to change. Be thankful for being aware of the changes you need to make! Be thankful for those who made you aware of needing to change certain things! Be thankful for the daily stresses that add to your character and be thankful for the people who have moved out of your life, as they allow you room to develop new relationships and hobbies. It’s been a long year for many. 2017 has brought a lot of devastation and change for families all over the world. Our hearts go out to the families who reach Thanksgiving with fewer members, lost homes, and lost jobs. Death has changed many lives this year, and some who escaped death wish they had not. While we come to this time of year when some are celebrating family and friends, we must also remember those who don’t feel they have much to be thankful for. While you count your blessings, please be sure to reach out to your neighbors, members of your church, colleagues, and those around the city who won’t be celebrating with family but will instead be by themselves, possibly depressed and lonely. Consider opening your doors to them. Help them feel wanted, needed, invited. Show them that you see them, even if all you can do is wrap up some left overs or invite them to a local shelter for a meal. Do your best to be thankful for your blessings while helping someone else see that they too are a blessing to others. What are you thankful for this season?

Delicious Turkey Recipe Watch how to make this recipe. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Pull the neck and giblets out of the cavity; ditch the liver and save the rest of the giblets for gravy. Dry the turkey with paper towels, then season inside and out with salt and pepper. Fill the turkey with aromatics like chopped onions, carrots, apples and herbs, then place breastside up in a roasting pan and brush with melted butter. Tent with foil and roast for 2 hours (for a 10- to 12-pound turkey; add an extra 15 minutes per pound for larger birds). Remove the foil, baste with more melted butter and crank the oven to 425 degrees F. Roast for another hour or until the meat at the thigh registers 165 degrees F. Let rest while you make the gravy.

WORLD DREAM CENTERS By Sim Lee “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:40 NIV Many of the children who have been kidnapped and forced into the US sex trade industry have come into our country illegally and will usually end up in large cities where they are exploited until their health or physical condition makes them considerably less desirable by their handlers' clients. At that point, they are usually left on the streets, hopefully to be helped or rescued by a charitable organization. The general lack of any funding to send these young people back to their home cities is kind of surprising given the mouth service that most of us have given to the causes of the "Dreamers". One group of charitable interests with a common purpose that serves to help in this type of situation is Dream Centers. A spokesman for the Dream Center of Phoenix, AZ told the story of the New York Police Department contacting them to see if that Dream Center could help with a young woman who had escaped from her handlers and wanted to return to Phoenix. When the Center had raised the money to fly her home later that same day, the girl had already left with other people for Kansas City. Not to be dissuaded, the Phoenix Center contacted the Kansas City Center and soon the girl was again found and then returned to Phoenix to those she called family.
There are 200 Dream Centers worldwide and they all providing similar services. A typical Center will be a multi-level facility with provisions for the homeless on one level, veterans in need on another, aged-out foster kids on yet another level and then usually the top level is for sex trade victims. No matter how badly some people have been or are currently being treated, there are always those kind hearted people who seem driven to help others. Like a candle left in the window, they shine out of the darkness to guide and take people out of bad circumstances. The oddest thing about the Centers is the fact that they have huge expenses and virtually have to live by the hard and fast business rule: if you are going to help people whose life circumstances don't drive much in the way of donations, you will have to attract donors who will not flinch nor faultier when asked to help the very least among us. Dream Centers serve a purpose that is honorable, no matter how unpopular their clients are with the general public, and their donors are 11 examples to us all of how we should respond to any level of need.

Catching Up With S.T.A.C.K. Zion If you have been following hip hop in Connecticut, you have certainly come across S.T.A.C.K. Zion. And if you have, he has probably shocked you! Michael Stackhouse towers over you, yet speaks with a soft voice and possesses a humble nature. BUT WHEN HE RAPS… forget it. That voice comes through powerfully and with the confidence of a seasoned rapper. True to his mission of Seeking To Arm Christ’s Kingdom, S.T.A.C.K. Zion is doing great things in the Kingdom. In August, S.T.A.C.K released to his Zioneers and future Zioneers the long-awaited Project Z. And we love it! Let’s hear from him in this interview we had the chance to do with him recently. Heart to Heart: You put a lot of work into this album, which is clear from the quality. From the beats to the lyrics to the collaborations with other artists, the album equips folks and motivates them to go deeper with God, whether that means accepting Him for the first time or becoming more involved in what He is trying to do in their lives. What song was your favorite song to record? And why?
S.T.A.C.K. Zion: What’s good, Shellz? Thanks for having me. My favorite song to record has to be “Disrespectful” because it was the first time that I had other Christian rap artists who are my Brothers in Christ on a track with me. We had a blast! Everything was just so very cohesive. If folks haven’t seen it, the video is up on YouTube if you search for "Disrespectful, StackZion". Heart to Heart: Great song Michael! I really enjoyed that one when you all shared it at an event I attended earlier this year. The energy was definitely high and you all vibed off one another so well! What would you say was the most difficult part of the writing and recording process for you? S.T.A.C.K. Zion: The most difficult part of the writing and recording was not so much the actions themselves, but the constant wonder of whether the project would finally be complete and--most importantly--if it would be effective. Those were really my only concerns. But this project has definitely taught me the value of Quality, Patience, and Fortitude. Heart to Heart: Great lessons to learn for sure! It sounds like an intense process. You waited for the Lord and let Him lead in this project, which resulted in a powerful album that addresses some topics the church sometimes likes to avoid. Specifically, you address the battle with sin when the battle is with “the enemy you like”. Many men and women struggle with lust in this age where pornography is so readily available. What advice would you offer to folks who are trying to walk the Kingdom life while struggling with lustful thoughts? 13
S.T.A.C.K. Zion: My advice would be to Fight for your life. Generally, in the sense of doing everything you can to overcome whatever you are contending against. We war not against flesh and blood, but with principality and powers of an unseen world that is spiritual (Eph 6:12). The spiritual realm has been around long before we came and our enemies are ancient. I would say the first step would be to confess what you are fighting with others who can pray and hold you accountable as well as to read Scriptures in spiritual warfare. Most importantly, just to stay close to the Lord Jesus. We'll never be perfect, but we serve a perfect God who gives grace. Deliverance has to be a two-way street. To put it simply: it's like having a relationship with someone who you love, but your ex is still working hard to get you back. Stick close to the Lord!
Heart to Heart: That analogy is fire! In “The Process”, you talk about how God designs folks to be who they are. You share the things the devil says to us to keep us down and how Jesus triumphs those statements and eradicates them. You talk about the process you had to experience. In the process of being a man who loves God, speaks out for Him boldly, and is doing his thing in the music industry, what words would you impart to those who feel called to the arts, specifically the music industry? S.T.A.C.K. Zion: The words I impart to those who desire to express creativity in song for the Kingdom are: 1. ALWAYS keep the Lord Christ first in your vision. Make sure He has the content, substance, and motives of your heart. 2. Stay true to yourself. People will not get the full authentication of who you are unless you register with your own signature. 3. Tell the truth. You will not be able to influence anyone if they can't relate to where you've been. Heart to Heart: You are involved in the community and building up other men. What do you feel is most rewarding about seeing other men grasp hold of the gospel and begin to grow? S.T.A.C.K. Zion: Yes. I’m simply a doorkeeper for a men's fellowship called Godhood Vs Manhood (GVM), Where All Men to come together without denomination to come share what it truly is to be a man in the Kingdom of God. Facing struggles at the work place, in the street, or even in ministry. We cover every topic, no holds barred. We help, encourage, and build each other up, and from it, it always is a reward just to know another man walked away wanting to return wanting more of what OTHER men were offering from similar experiences, causing us to form bonds that the Lord ultimately benefits from. Also for the younger men who attend who walk away empowered, knowing who they are more confidently. Heart to Heart: Having accountability and a group of strong men to raise you up and pray for you is important to Kingdom Living. I notice you run with a group of folks you are tight with who have similar interests. How did you all meet and what would you say to other young men out there looking to establish a strong group of men to grow with? 14
S.T.A.C.K. Zion: To first make sure the Lord assists you in your Divine connections. We tend to click with the wrong people based on who we are, when it should be the total opposite. At time the Lord will put you around people who are the total opposite of who you think brings the best out of you. How I met my brothers and sisters in arms was through a youth meeting that was put together by the youth of different ministries and churches and from there we began unlocking gifts in one another, imparting gifts, prophesying, and praying. From there many, many strong bonds were formed and before you knew it, God begin to reveal purpose through those He would use. It was never forced it was more like a gradual transition. Not saying it will be the same for everyone, but the Lord will surely direct your steps. Heat to Heart: This is a great perspective! I imagine many readers will stop and reflect upon that one. While we all know opposites attract, we seldom think to ask God to connect us with folks who challenge and grow us because they think, look, or act differently. You are so right that we tend to gravitate to what we know. That said… I know that I LOVE listening to Project Z and am so happy to finally have the final album on my phone and in my car! I appreciate all the work you put into it. I would not be able to end this interview in true Shell style without asking you this last question: Where can we come out and support you in November and December? S.T.A.C.K. Zion: Lol. Well the dates are to be announced soon with a few surprises for Nov and Dec. Considering that these dates might change, please follow my artist page on FaceBook (StackZion) or my personal profile: (Michael L Stackhouse). I’m also on IG as StackZion. Heart to Heart: With that last answer, I’ve determined I will be keeping a light calendar this month and next so I’m ready for those surprises! Lol Thanks for taking this time with us Michael. You are demonstrating to all of us what it means to walk in your calling while also enduring the process you must go through to get to the place of doing it full time. We look forward to hearing more from you in the future!! S.T.A.C.K. Zion: You too, Shellz. And thank you.

TALLENT – TAKING CHRIST OUTSIDE THE WALLS OF THE CHURCH We all know folks who talk about taking Christ outside of the church and sharing His love with the community. Often, their idea of doing this is opening the doors of the church for events that include wordship, conferences, or “Harvest” parties. There is nothing wrong with these things; however, if we are honest, they don’t actually bring Christ into the community. They simply provide an invitation for the community to come to the church. Enter Tim Allen, a young man from New London County, CT. Tim currently resides in Salem CT with wife Trystan and son Timothy Jr. Tim’s mission is to get outside the walls of the church by loving all who he meets through the use of his gifts, walking out the desires of his heart, and ensuring he uses the dominion the Lord has given him over this Earth. He is not afraid to do greater things and build up those around him to do the same. Having started his music career as a secular artist, Tim (who goes by Tallent for his music ministry) is committed to going harder for Christ than he did during his time in the world. And boy is he. One Saturday each month, he and Evangelist Matias Rojas, President Of M.O.R.E International Ministries, host The M.O.R.E. Family Breakfast in New London, CT at a community building. The breakfast includes a buffet style spread, speakers, artists, and fellowship. People of all backgrounds and faiths are welcome to attend and come together to learn more about God and one another. These breakfasts are priced reasonably and are open to all ages as a chance to get folks from the community together to grow as individuals while hearing the Good News. During the week, Tim and long-time friend and fellow mentor Miles Daniels teach youth sports skills that will help them on and off the court. Through The Loyal Connection Sports Academy, they are running basketball programs that instill fundamental basketball skills as well as mental and physical skills the youth can use off the court to be successful in life. They teach the youth that teamwork is not just about how you act during a game but also how you carry yourself in school, at home, and in society. Using their athletic backgrounds and strong mentoring skills, Tim and Miles are changing lives of area youth. Tim believes so fully in his mission to use all of his gifts that when presented with an opportunity his only hesitancy is to ask the Lord, “Is this you prompting me to do this?” Once he has the go ahead, he moves. Most recently, this includes leading a Bootcamp to help others in the community, and himself, get fitter and healthier. Tim is taking his love for Christ outside the walls and engaging folks not just with the gospel but with his lifestyle and living out what he believes. We would be remiss to not at least mention the collaborations he has coming up and that he is working on an album we will share with you in a later issue. Most recently, he and Gabriel Martinez have collaborated on the upcoming release of Grapefruit Troop. Both men are challenging ongoing societal conversations and sharing their minds about what it means to live in this world today. Coming from different angles, the collaboration is sure to spark conversation so be on the lookout and listen for yourself once it’s released. In his own music, Tallent flows freely about his love for Christ, what it’s like to be a man living today, and how to live this Kingdom life in a way that brings others closer to Christ. Check out the pages linked above to learn more about Tim’s ventures and how he is influencing the community for Christ. Be sure to join him at an upcoming M.O.R.E. Family Breakfast, enroll your child in an upcoming sports academy training, or download a copy of his singles to show support. If you find yourself inspired by his story, reach out and talk with him about ideas on how you too can get outside the walls of the church and influence your area for the Kingdom!

Be A Product of Your Product by Ngozi Nwoke Are you a marketer of Jesus Christ? Are you a product of your product? It is one thing to preach Christ and another to be a product of what you say about Him. This article encourages you to be what you preach and teach for lasting effect on your hearers.
And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature - Mark 16:15 (NKJV). And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ - Acts 5:42 (NKJV). The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed - Luke 4:18 (NKJV). You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men - 2 Corinthians 3:2 (NKJV). It is easier to sell your products when you are a testimony of how good your product is. People tend to believe you and buy your product when you share your testimony of the product, especially when they can relate with your former situation. This principle also applies when you market Christ as Lord and Savior. You make stronger impact when you practice and are what you preach. In Mark 16:15, Jesus commanded every child of God to go into the whole world and preach the gospel, which is Jesus the Christ (Acts 5:42). You are to market Him as the Lord and Savior of the whole world, the one that will heal the broken-hearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, recover the sight of the blind and set at liberty those who are oppressed (Luke 4:18). However, how will people believe you if you are broken-hearted, bound and oppressed of the enemy? People in such situations will find it difficult to receive the Lord as their solution when you preach to them that He can deliver them. The reverse is the case when they know you were once broken-hearted, bound or oppressed of the devil, but now you are free indeed. Your testimony of God's deliverance, healing and blessing will make people to desire to identify with your Jesus - the solution to your challenges. They will first surrender to Jesus because of your testimony before they experience Him for themselves. You are the epistle that people know and read first (2 Corinthians 3:2). The woman of Samaria's testimony of what Jesus did in her life was what first drew the people to Christ. They first believed on Christ because of her testimony before they believed Him because of His own words to them (John 4:39-42). In conclusion, it is important that you believe God's words and have them fulfilled in your life so that your testimony of Christ will have stronger impact on your hearers, thereby provoking them to also receive Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Be a product of your product!

Comparison is the Enemy of Contentment by Cornieta Whitfield Society has a way of imposing that being original, unique, or “different” is like the Biblical disease of leprosy. One is treated as an outcast with no hope of acceptance. And it’s the fear of not being accepted that causes us to breed comparison. Many may not see that comparison is a spiritual dagger to God’s purpose and plan for your life, but it is. When we compare ourselves to others, wishing that we were not ourselves but the other individual, we are saying “God you did not make me right”. One could say that your attitude is that of someone who think they are equal to God and not a creation of God. Our ability to overcome that fear of not being accepted is to find our true identity. It’s seeking God concerning what our purpose is. When we find our purpose in life, it propels us into our destiny. The world would like you to believe that striving to be “better” than the individual next to you is the goal. But that’s wrong. Having that mindset is a trick of the enemy. That mindset is a rabbit trail that has been set so you can chase it; consequently, moving you further and further away from your purpose. Finding true purpose means seeking God and His approval not the approval of others. We would love to think that we can live up to the everyone else’s expectations, but we cannot. Many people stop dreaming, and some take their lives, because they cannot meet others’ expectations. When you have learned to be content then you can make decisions about future with a sound mindset, which is having the ability to understand that what God has for you is worth fighting for. In this case, sound implies that you are confident in the abilities of your creator, so even if the situation is not panning out like you imagine, your identity in Christ refuses to allow you to compare yourself but to keep standing in your confident self. I was in my early 20s when I discovered myself. I had sprained my hamstring at Track practice, got into a car accident, failed my nursing class, and found out my crush was seeing someone else all within the same month. I was devastated. I had too many people who didn’t believe I could compete at a Division 1 level and still graduate with my Bachelors in Nursing. Too many naysayers. I allowed the attitude of “I will prove you wrong” to be my drive. But purposefully God used it to lead me to Genesis. Where He reminded me that my identity is in Him. As I began to read, I realized “I was good”. Not one time but two times. God reiterated it because there are stubborn people like me who won’t get it the first time. Today, I can stand boldly saying I give God thanks that He never gave up on me. Today I am walking in my purpose. I have found contentment in my marriage, my business, and my life because I am doing what He has called me to do. I don’t have to compare myself to others because I’ve concluded that the world needs what I have— personality, gifts/talents— just me. And as I discover the depths of who I was born to be daily, I find that it is easier to be me.

Why Resting Your Mind is Important
by Stephanie Reck So many people are in a continually state of unrest. It is important that you take time to rest your mind, body, and spirit. Otherwise, your entire system will be out of balance. When you system gets out of balance you can be susceptible to illness, negative thinking, depression, anxiety, and fatigue. How does one get in a state of unrest? Being constantly geared-up, worried, anxious, and fearful, thinking the worst, and not allowing your mind to just rest. As well as not eating properly, not getting enough exercise, and not spending time with God. To take a rest in your mind would mean to stop all thoughts that would pose a threat to your state of peace. If you're constantly thinking about worrisome thoughts your body will react to the stress. If you think negative thoughts and stressful thoughts your body will begin to react. It is important to balance your system back with prayer, spending time with God, eating right, exercising, letting go and letting God, and giving your mind a rest from anxious, worrisome, and fearful thoughts. If your mind is in a continually state of unrest you will eventually feel tired and worn-out and generally not feel well (malaise). Your body will feel tense, you may have sore muscles, headaches, and possible TMJ. Get to the "roots" of why you are in a chronic state of unrest. In other words, what are the underlying causes of your stress? What keeps you up at night? It is not God's will for you to be under stress and unbalance. You might have to slip away from the hectic lifestyle you live or the busyness you are under and come into the presence of Jesus who can unmask why you in a state of unrest. Step away from the cares of this world long enough to hear God and how He wants you to handle your situations. Go to a quiet place and sit before the Lord. Get quiet and balance your emotions. There is a word God will breathe upon you and enlighten you with. Take care of your body, begin to eat balanced nutritious meals, and take up light exercising. Walking is a great way to relieve stress and unrest. Take a multi-vitamin as well as a good B-vitamin. This is a holistic approach to your unrest but you have to take care of not only your body but your mind and spirit as well. Balance every area of your life. All of your parts are interconnected: your mind, your body, and your spirit. If one area is out of balance you will feel it in the other areas as well. Have you ever noticed when you are physically sick you're not as spiritually strong? But have you noticed when you are physically, mentally, and spiritually strong how good you feel? Always be guarded and aware when one or two areas are out of balance. Realign the ones that need to be rebalanced. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, 26 "Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. Mark 6:31
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT by Jim Schicatano In the first chapter of Genesis, God instructs humanity "to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves on the ground." Two Psalms (Psalms 8 and 115) reinforce the notion that God gave the Earth to man. It is regretful that our conquest of the Earth has not been more positive. God gave us the sacred and challenging responsibility to serve as caretakers of our world. In addition to the animals, we are equally the custodians of the oceans, the mountains, rain forests, the prairies, and even the atmosphere. God granted to us, in a way, the ability to act as God. The planet Earth is ours to govern. Yet, having dominion over something does not mean to foolishly use it or abuse it. Since the 1990s, the amount of food harvested from the ocean has been in decline, as we fish the ocean to depletion. In addition, we use the ocean as both a food pantry and dump. We produce toxic chemicals, nuclear waste, crude oil, and other garbage often with little concern for their safe disposal. Inevitably, much of it reaches the ocean. In addition, as we continue to pump carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, the oceans absorb some of it. This has resulted in ocean acidification, threatening coral reefs and all ocean life. A giant "island of garbage" floats atop the Pacific Ocean, while trash routinely washes ashore on islands around the world. The birds of the air are also under assault. The passenger pigeon and the dodo bird are just two of many species of birds that went extinct due to human activity. The California condor and the bald eagle teetered on the brink of extinction before human intervention saved them. Bird colonies around the world are at risk of extinction, as man encroaches on their breeding and feeding habitats such as wetlands, forests, lakes, and rivers. Air pollution and chemicals also threaten the bird population. Animals hold a special place in the Bible. It is true that they were considered property, yet, God made it clear they were to be treated compassionately. In Proverbs, we are told that the righteous care for their animals, and we are mandated to care for them and know their condition. In Exodus and Deuteronomy, we are instructed to care for stray animals, and return such animals to the owner. We must also allow a beast of burden the ability to eat while working, and to give the animals one day of rest in seven. While some pets are treated humanely, other animals do not fair as well. Many are hunted and killed for sport rather than necessity, as we senselessly slaughter entire species of animals to the brink of extinction. Tigers, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and even some of the great apes may be gone in the years ahead. Animal fighting is a cruel but popular sport around the world. Spectators cheer as animals are pitted against each other, often fighting to a bloody death. In Leviticus, God instructs us to give the land one year of rest in seven with neither planting nor harvesting. Even during war, when trees were cut to provide siege material and weapons, the Bible commands the people to spare fruit-bearing trees. Yet, we rape the land for its mineral wealth, and slash, burn, and clear forests for agriculture, roads, housing, and businesses. If we consider the tremendous amount of damage that we unleash upon the animals, the air, the ocean, and the land, it is clear that we have acted brashly and foolishly. All of this must change if we are to fulfill the sacred obligation entrusted to us by God, and care for our world.

Prayer Works by Shari Weigerstorfer A few months ago, while we were in the London airport, my daughter found some coins. I had no idea that God would use this seemingly insignificant event as a building block of faith. But then, God is ever surprising, isn't He? Recently, when we were scheduled to travel through that same airport again, the memory was clearly on Sabrina's mind. "Mom, will I find some more coins tomorrow?" she asked. My immediate response was, "I don't know, maybe. Why don't you pray about it? God knows everything. If there are some coins there, maybe He'll show you where they are." At the time, I gave this conversation little thought. It is possible that these words just flowed from my spirit and bypassed my mind. It is also possible that I was temporarily insane and completely irresponsible. Why would I suggest such a thing? I've been trying so hard to teach her about prayer, and I had probably just set her up for failure. Finding money isn't the type of thing one prays for! The following day, while walking through the airport, the subject surfaced again, "Mom, do you think I'll find some coins?“ "I don't know. Did you pray about it?" Secretly, I didn't want her to be disappointed. "Yes! Last night!" And off she ran to the same corner where she'd found the coins before. She returned from her quest empty-handed. The look on her face was one of sheer disappointment. We walked through the customs area in silence. As we walked toward the train, I could think of nothing to say. I was too busy berating myself. This was, of course, entirely my fault. What had made me suggest such a thing? "Oh Lord, forgive me. But please, help me out here. There's so much riding on this. How else will she ever learn that prayer works?" "She'll learn from you," came God's words whispered into my heart. We approached the first compartment of the train, and I pushed the button for the door to open, but nothing happened. We traveled on to the next compartment, and I again tried the door, but it remained firmly locked. Finally, at the third compartment, the system seemed to work, and we were allowed to board the train. We hauled our luggage in and located two available seats in the far corner. Stepping into the row, I looked down, and there on the floor were two large, bright coins. Relief and awe surged through me. "Sabrina, look!" She squealed in triumph, and like lightning, scooped them up. With a smile, I teased her, "Who loves you? Who hears your prayers?" "God does," replied a little face filled with wonder.
And a heart full of gratitude, eyes glistening with tears affirmed, "Yes, Sabrina, oh yes, He does!" Thou hast given him His heart's desire, And hast not withheld the request of his lips. For Thou dost meet him with the blessings of good things. (Psalm 21:2-3, NASB)

Pray With Your Little Children by Bill Hunt Our family with four little ones gathered to pray at home in the evening. In cold weather, we burned logs in the brick fireplace. The kids gathered to sit around the living room on the furniture or down on the braided rug holding their Bibles. We'd open by singing beautiful spiritual songs together. Then, each child selected a scripture and read to the others.
After, we prayed spontaneously one by one. Monica (age 8) often blessed her pony, Valentine. Brian (7) and Emily (6) prayed for the other animals on our family farm and for our friends. Even little Joanna (3) prayed cute lines of heartfelt requests. Mommy and Daddy would follow with prayer and finish with a Blessing, laying hands on each child. "May our Heavenly Father bless you in the wonder and power of his love and give you a peaceful sleep in the Name of Jesus. Amen.“ "Daddy, can you teach me to pray in tongues?“
One evening, little Brian, age 7, in his pajamas jumped up in the living room and came to my chair. "You don't learn how to pray in tongues," I answered him. "God gives it to you as a gift. But I can ask for you to receive the Holy Spirit. Close your eyes and raise your hands." Mary, washing dishes in the kitchen, heard the innocence of her son's question. She wiped her hands on a towel and leaned in the doorway to watch. My wife has a gift of expectant faith! I gently laid my hands on Brian and prayed for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Immediately, out of his mouth, Brian prayed in the gift of tongues. "It was so beautiful," said Mary, "such a testimony to God's faithfulness to the prayer and faith of a little child.“ "Me too, Daddy!" Monica came over. She too, received the gift of the Holy Spirit. The genuine gift of tongues is really the Holy Spirit praying within you. In your own spirit, he impresses you with what he is saying. It's so clearly seen in innocent children.
"That's when you gave me my Bible for Christmas," said Mary. "And I started reading through it from beginning to end. I began studying, assimilating, and memorizing scriptures." Mary's Bible has since worn a little ragged. I don't think she'll ever let it go. Life was very simple and very blessed on our little farm. A lovely evangelist named Shirley held evening revivals in the local Assembly of God Church for a time. She brought many townspeople to the Lord with her anointed preaching and melodious spiritual songs. This greatly affected the children's spirituality at exactly the right time in their lives. One by one, each of our four children walked up and gave their lives to Jesus on their own. Shirley's singing ministry blessed us deeply. As I said, "It was a house of prayer in a place of healing."

In this book, I want to deal with the greatest human enemy that has paralyzed and killed dreams: NEGATIVITY. We will be taking a closer look at this spirit, how to identify, and how to eliminate it from trespassing in and invading our lives. Negative thinking and speaking is a poison that destroys hopes and dreams. When the mind is consumed with negativity, there is a sense of defeat, despair, and discouragement. The enemy is the father of all lies; he wants you to see your situation as being hopeless. Once the enemy gets you in that dark place, he does everything in his power to keep you there, where all you are giving birth to is inefficiency and ineffectiveness, while life passes you by. We all have choices to make. Your choices will determine your 35 personal success. NO MORE NEGATIVITY!
COME OUT OF THAT PRISON by Tesse Wilson Jesse did not think he was much of a speaker. He stuttered a lot since he was a child, especially when he was nervous. This was something he was conscious of and felt embarrassed about. But he could not say opportunity. Two weeks ago he was invited to share something positive with inmates at the prison where he served a twelve year sentence. Jesse whispered a silent prayer asking God for his help as he alighted his vehicle. He became very emotional as he entered the prison gate. After security checks, he was escorted to a room with prison guards and inmates. He greeted the guards and chatted briefly with some of his former inmates. The moment came, it was Jesse's turn to speak. He began his presentation nervously; afraid to make eye contact, head down reading from his notes. He told of a conversation he had five years ago with an elderly lady. This woman was a regular visitor to the prison, but he only agreed to speak with her a few days before he was released. He recounted that at first he told her he was not into the religious mumbo jumbo stuff. However, what she shared with him gave him more than a glimmer of hope, even though at that time he acted as though her words had no affect on him. As Jesse continued he became more relaxed and confident. He took his eyes from his notes, lifted his head, looked to his attentive audience and spoke from his heart.
This is what Jesse said, “I want to say to you the same thing this elderly woman said to me. My friends, do not live in two prisons. In other words you are already in a physical prison, but you do not have to live also in a mental prison. A mental prison where you allow your past mistakes to keep you bound. Perhaps not all of you are in a mental prison. But to the ones who are, I want to encourage you to step out of that mental prison. Today if you have limited yourself I challenge and encourage to set a goal, be the best you can be. Friends make use of the resources available to improve your lives. Step out of that mental prison; go finish that high school diploma, go ahead get the degree, go polish your talents and abilities, write that poem, that song, play that instrument, sing, and dance. Each one of you have a God- given talent. Go on learn something new. Go write that person who you need to apologize to, the one you hurt. Do not be afraid of rejection. Go ahead feel remorse it does not make you a weak person. Go on reach out to your son, your daughter. Go on forgive your father, your mother, that person who hurt you, yes the one who abandoned you, the one you took the fall for ,who has never visited you, those who lied on you, yes the one who abused you. Forgive them. Forgive yourself. Go ahead love yourself. Stop feeling guilty about loving yourself. Stop punishing yourself. Take care of yourself, pay attention to your health, ask to see the prison doctor. In spite of what you have done. You have a purpose. You have potential. You can still make a positive contribution right here; starting in the lives of each other. Friends, I use to think very little of myself. I thought I would never be able to speak in front of an audience. I thought I would never be able to move pass the fact that I committed a crime. Here I am! I came out of that mental prison. Join me! Yes I have struggled, but I found a friend in the Lord Jesus Christ. This same Jesus who said I do not condemn you, go and sin no more to the woman caught in adultery. This woman was brought to Jesus by her accusers. They wanted him to pronounce judgment upon her, but Jesus showed her mercy. Jesus is saying to you that he does not condemn you even if the accusations made against you are true. Jesus offers you forgiveness because he died for your sins and mine. He offers you the gift of salvation (deliverance) so that sin and sinful desires will no longer dominate you. My Friends, you can experience mental and spiritual freedom in this physical prison.” Jesse ended by saying, “Friends, I encourage you to reach out to Jesus. He is reaching out to you... Jesus loves you and he cares about you.”

DELUGE TEACHES FAMILY SOME LESSONS By Greg Miller Gabriel, his wife Gabriella, and their daughter, Gloria, lived in an area where damaging floods were prevalent. About a year ago, a flood had totally destroyed the family’s home, and they built a new house from some of their savings. The current year’s flood season was at its peak, and weather forecasters were predicting still another record-setting catastrophe. The predicted heavy rains were, indeed, followed by massive flooding. Having learned a lesson from the previous year’s deluge, Gabriel, Gabriella and Gloria heeded the warnings and headed for higher ground. After the flood waters eventually receded, the family headed back to their house. The damage almost equaled that of the previous year’s flood. The basement had been turned into a gigantic swimming pool, and the water had risen about halfway up the walls of all the house’s rooms. Damaged appliances, destroyed food items, and fish swimming through the inside-the-house lake, all greeted the trio as they entered the front door. “What a disgusting mess!” Gabriella exclaimed. “Our beautiful home is no longer so beautiful! The flood swept away all our gorgeous photos that were on the coffee table next to the sofa!” “And my favorite chair can never be restored!” wailed Gabriel. “I sat in that chair before every fishing trip to make plans about how catch ‘the big one.’” “The refrigerator was unplugged by the storm!” griped Gabriella. “All our food is destroyed!” Room by room, the trio examined all the home’s contents. Almost everything was ruined. Unlike her parents, Gloria noticed some bright spots in the situation. “This is a bad flood,” she said. “But there are some floods that are good. We’re forgetting some important things. The other day, I believe I heard mom say, ‘I’m glad we have flood insurance if we have another catastrophe like the one last year.’” “You’re right, Gloria,” said Gabriella. “Much of the damage and losses will be covered by the insurance.”
Trying to cheer up her parents, Gloria said, “And that’s not the only blessing. First of all, the biggest blessing is that we’re still alive and we have each other for comfort and support. Also, God loves us and is always with us.” Gloria reminded both of her parents they had vacation time coming to them and suggested a family vacation. “We haven’t had a real vacation in years,” she said. “And we have enough money in the bank to pay contractors to do all the work, so we can take our vacation and spend some quality time together as a family.” “That’s a wonderful idea, honey,” said Gabriella. “But the next time the Lord wants us to take a vacation, I hope He just uses a still small voice and whispers the idea into our ears!”

When The Enemy Attacks by Tony Grater He's there the minute you mess up. Roaring like a lion, Filling your mind with doubt.. He tells you can't come back from this one. Says I told you so. He tells you all the progress you've made, Was a mirage... And that you haven't really changed. Don't buy into his lies. Don't let him tell you you're not forgiven, And that it's only a matter of time before you fall again. Cause you will mess up again. But don't let the devil take a foothold in your life. Don't let him continue to tempt you.. Because the sin you committed yesterday, Jesus paid for.. The sin you'll commit tomorrow, Jesus paid for.. The sin you'll commit five years from now, Jesus paid for. Every sin you've ever committed, Or ever will commit, Jesus paid for.. Don't buy into his lies, Don't let him rob your joy, But most of all, Don't let your guard down.. Stand in the Truth, Put on the full armor of God, Look the enemy right in his face, And let him know, He won a battle, But Jesus has already won the war.

HOW TO STAY STRESS-FREE DURING THE HOLIDAYS by Stephanie Reck It's that time of year again when the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us. This time of year more people suffer from depressive episodes than at any other time of the year, usually brought on by stress, anxiety, and sadness. With Thanksgiving just being a week away, I will share with you some things that can lessen your stress and improve your mental health. For the last couple of years, I have had many challenges during this time of year. For one, my parents divorced and now they are remarried with separate families, my grandparents passed away and I was extremely close to them, my only child is now my prodigal waiting to come home, and I have been estranged from several family members because of addictions and mental health issues. Needless to say, the holidays can be stressful. Maybe you can relate. Have you suffered the loss of a loved one, recently been divorced, are you taking care of elderly parents, or maybe even a sick child? Tips on how to stress-less this holiday season: 1. Don't try and keep up with everyone else's spending and busyness. Do what you can do, and ask God what you should be involved in. 2. Learn to say, "No." Strike a balance with meeting needs of others and your needs. Set boundaries with difficult people. You don't have to meet the demands of others. Do what is best for you family. 3. Take care of yourself physically by exercising and getting rest when needed. Spiritually by spending daily time with God, and mentally by not complaining and speaking negative things over yourself and others. 4. Be a blessing to someone else, or to several people. 5. Pray for others who may be going through a difficult time, it can take your mind off your situation. 6. Step away from all the craziness of the season and do something for yourself like, take a warm bubble bath or watch an old Christmas movie. Do something enjoyable. 7. Start a gratitude list, and every day write out (5) things that you are thankful for. CHOOSE to focus on what you do have. 8. Take it one day at a time. Do not project outcomes to situations before they happen. 9. Let go of ALL guilt. Don't place unrealistic expectations on yourself. Let go of expectations that you might have for others. Having unrealistic expectations for yourself and others can lead to disappointment and depression. 10. Start a new tradition for your family, such as taking communion and reading the Christmas story from the Bible. 11. Focus on the reason for the season. Keeps things in perspective. 12. Try and not reminisce of how things were before, this can lead to discontentment; instead focus on what is good in your life now. 13. If you have suffered a loss or have gone through something tragic, be gentle on yourself. Don't compare yourself to others and what they are doing or what they have. This may mean getting off of Facebook and looking at everyone's seemingly perfect life. This also may mean that you are not up to going to every Christmas program, party, or family event. What can you add to this list? Will you join me and share your ideas, it could help someone else, and please pass this 40 on to others who need encouragement.

WHY YOU SHOULD GET INVOLVED WITH YOUR COMMUNITY According to "The Go-Giver" by Bob Burg and John David Mann (2007), "Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment." What?! Is that typed correctly? Yes! In fact, they go on to say, "All the great fortunes in the world have been created by men and women who had a greater passion for what they were giving their product, service or idea - than for what they were getting." What do you think about these quotes? Do you agree? When you think of volunteering in your local community you may not think of it as "The Go-Giver" did in terms of a business - but it is. Your products, services, or ideas are what you provide when you give to a local business - either monetarily or through your time or belongings. The same principles taught in the book about success are true when looking at getting involved in your community.
If you want to show your value in a particular area, it is important for you to become involved with your community. Whether you are a business owner, writer / artist, employee, or stay at home parent, being involved in your community shows a few things about you: * You care about making the world a better place. * You want to contribute to the lives of those around you by offering your skills or services. * You are willing to pour into others so they can become as good as you or better. * You have skills that are worth sharing with others. Two easy ways to get involved are to search for opportunities on Volunteer Match and Christian Volunteering websites. In this article, I want to share why it is important to get involved. Though your motive for giving should be because you want to share your talents with others, you will reap many benefits too. In giving, you receive the joy of seeing someone grow. In giving, you invest in someone's life in a priceless way. Those who can't afford to pay you, such as the kids on the soccer team, will always be grateful for how you helped them. Those who receive your skills will go on to use those lessons in their life and think of you, remembering to pay it forward. Those who know you are someone who gives of yourself will want to help you and further your cause. Let's say you are interviewing for jobs. The positions you are looking for require training and management experience, but you haven't worked in those areas professionally. However, you have been a Girl Scouts leader for several years, managing cookie drives, fundraisers, and training sessions. This is great experience to add to your resume. Those years of paying it forward will provide you with return on your investment. Do you hold an office in your Toastmasters club? Do you provide training at your local Department of Labor? These are valuable skills. In giving to your community, you are building other people up using your strengths. When you share these valuable skills with others, you build up leaders, future business owners, better parents, stronger individuals. You help others believe in themselves and feel that you have invested time within helping them become more skilled. In turn, you become a better leader and stronger individual. So why get involved in your community? Because the value you create by giving to others is worth far more than you will ever receive from anyone in payment. What skills do you have that you should be sharing with your community?
