Starting Your TEEN on the Path to Good Credit Helping teens become financially independent and confident in their money management skills is a goal for many parents. It takes years to establish a good credit rating and we need to educate our emerging adults about credit so that they may avoid the pitfalls of a bad credit rating. One effective and practical opportunity to teach teens about credit may be to help them secure a credit card with a low spending limit. This can help them to establish good credit practices and understand the advantages that come with responsible money management. Encourage them to use the card for small purchases and to pay off the card every month to build good habits and start them on the path to a solid rating.
