02 [AUC - FALL 2018] ARCH 473/3522 Digital Design Studio & Workshop

Course Coordinators: Sherif Abdelmohsen, Associate Professor Passaint Massoud, Associate Professor Teaching Assistants: Ahmed Hassab, Aly Magdy, Hesham Khaled, Tasbeh Mokbel, Ahmed Wael This course involves in-depth investigations focused on the capabilities of computation in architectural design. Hands-on implementation of computational tools is exercised by means of projects and lab tutorials that involve advanced 3D modeling, parametric design, visualization and digital fabrication. The course learning outcomes involve modeling complex and innovative geometries, implementing algorithmic thinking in the process of structuring architectural problems and solutions, translating sources of inspiration informed by nature and materiality, utilizing parametric modeling concepts for the continuous generation and analysis of architectural alternatives in an iterative design process, and using digital fabrication techniques for testing and prototyping.
