CDP THE PHOTOGRAPHY
SCHOOL OF AND DIGITAL
IMAGE The school of photography and digital image sets out to create an env ronment whereby the school houses all aspects of photograph y and dig tat imaging , merging students together through integrated studios roof terraces and social spaces enabt ing students to expand their knowledge of given subjects. individual learning spaces also al low the occupianls to stud y , create. 􀉃nd displa y their own work. WEATHER OR NOT - THE RESIDUAL WEATHER OR NOT is a project which focuses on the enviormental effects has had on the Calderdale region of Hebden Bridge. The site for this project sits riverside to the River Calder which runs through the small town, fluvial flooding is serious threat for many of the buildings within the area so the wellness centre is designed in a way that embraces this change rather than working against it.

SITE PLAN
Key Points: -The site is located riverside and thus the river is a key elelment to the buildings design, The River Calder has a long history of flooding that dates back to the 1800’s, the region is loamy, acidic soils making it suseptible to fluvial flooding from rainwater. Sunglight and Wind direction- The building has been orientated so that sunlight on the south side of the building can be utilised, this also allows for thermal heating of the building. The site is encllosed by two large hills on the North and South side which reduces the mild prevailing winds coming from the south west.

The three buildings are seperated into the three main building purposes: Study, Wellness and Information. These key motifs derived from the ideas of chakra (mainly ideas about the root chakra) which relates to security, survival and instinct.
Large glazed walls are used on the south side of the building to create a visual relationship with the flowing river water and to increase the solar gain levels throughout the building. The placement of each building has taken into account wave height in both normal and extreme weather conditions, and the projected rise in sea level due to climate change.
