Introduction
ABOUT ME My devotion to architecture originally derived from my passion and love for art which led me to discovering a fascination with the dynamic subject that is architecture and its requirements for creativity and imagination. I have just completed my undergraduate architecture degree at Liverpool John Moore’s University where I have been able to explore the built environment in more ways than I imagined which has only widened my appreciation for the subject. It is through my degree that I have been able to pursue my love for design and make the most of my artistic nature. In my design I aim first and foremost on how certain spaces can impact a person with particular interest in how a building can produce different environments. I am an extremely determined individual, with the abilty to work alone or as part of a team. I am creative, attentive to detail and passionate about art, reading and travel. It is because of architecture that I have also found a love for travel. Travel has allowed me to amerce myself in other cultures and their history, but it has also furthered my knowledge and ideas about different environments and conditions. The Frohlich Archive Comprehensive Design Project BA Year 3 - Semester 2 The Brief
The Site
The brief for this project involved designing a new home for the Frohlich archive of paintings, books and artefacts from married couple, Herbert and Fanchon Frohlich. This space requires an exhibition space, educational facilities, social events space, an expandable archive and a reading and study room. This building also had to be capable of generating income to sustain running costs as well as forming a wider archive of Merseyside artists, based in Liverpool city centre. Key:

The site is on Mason Street, in Edge Hill, just outside of Liverpool city centre. The site is the land of the late Joseph Williamson’s former house, of which one facade is still existing. The site was built upon multiple escape tunnels, now well known throughout Liverpool as the Williamson Tunnels. Mason Street is a residential street, with unobstructed views of the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and the Radio City Tower, as well as some views to the River Mersey. The street and site has a sandstone terrain due to being previously quarried.

The Frohlich Archive Comprehensive Design Project BA Year 3 - Semester 2 The Concept The idea of levels: This concept idea stems from the difference in levels between the site and the the tunnels below and the difference in experiences between them. Experimenting with levels: Experiencing different views, environments and lighting due to different levels.

Weather or Not BA Year 3 - Semester 1
The Brief
The Site
This project involved designing a weather station based in Hebden Bridge, which is known for its extreme weather conditions. With careful consideration into the current climate situation and arising issues surrounding the climate crisis, the building requires spaces such as accommodation, laboratory and a visitor centre and designed to use different design technologies and energy saving strategies. A choice of 3 sites, all very different within the chosen area. Key:
Public Footpath Existing Track Existing Road Existing Settlement Existing Context Green Space Water Existing Trees Site Outline

Based in Hebden Bridge, the site is an ex-quarry for sandstone and mudstone supplied to West Yorkshire. The site is a quiet, somewhat neglected space that sits beside Height Road. The sites precise location is shown below, highlighting existing settlements, green spaces and public routes linked with the site. The site feels very rural and provides an interesting base for analysis due to the exposure to elements experienced whilst at the site. This analysis attempts to gain a rounded picture of what the sites surrounding are like in order for designs to become well executed and addressed.

Weather or Not BA Year 3 - Semester 1
The Concept ‘The idea is that flowing water never goes stale, so just keep flowing.’ Designing a building which will be built to last because of the choice of materials, sustainable energy technologies and site. Designing a building which will reinforce the idea of flowing water, as if flowing down the slope of the site, whilst also having a strong connection between water and the chosen area of Hebden Bridge. The design must be fitting with it’s context, must sit within the landscape similar to boulders.

Liverpool’s Centre for Climate Change Activism BA Year 2 - Semester 2
The Brief To design a space within Liverpool City Centre to demonstrate and educate visitors about the climate crisis, and specifically how as individuals we can adapt and change our diets to help save the planet. The space will be used to promote vegan and vegetarian lifestyles by hosting cookery classes, advice on diets and will have an exhibition space for artists who focus on climate change. The site will also have an area for growing and selling produce, as well as an eatery, and will also consider packaging that is nondamaging to the environment. As well as this I will look into ways of designing a building that considers climate change through the choice of materials and sustainable technologies.Â

The Site
The chosen is Brownlow Hill car park in Liverpool City Centre. The site is situated behind the Edwardian building, that is now the Adelphi Hotel, which has a height of 40 metres. Opposite the site, south facing is also Mount Pleasant car park which is 20 metres high, both structures creating shade onto site. Not only will this building facilitate education of the climate change crisis but also bring a new green space and park area to Liverpool, providing a space for community for those interested in climate change.

Liverpool’s Centre for Climate Change Activism BA Year 2 - Semester 2
The Concept The concept for this project came from the brief. The brief was about designing a space for educating people on climate change. I chose to go down the path of focusing on food and how vegan or meatfree diets can help save the planet and have a positive impact on the current climate. The idea of a vegan diet connotes simple living in order to save the planet which developed my concept into a simple design with the use of simple shapes but within the building will have a big impact, meaning despite the simple aesthetic from the exterior, the interior and activities that take place inside will impact visitors.

Urban Regeneration Urban Design Group Project BA Year 2 - Semester 1 The Brief To redesign the Fabric District in Liverpool making it more inviting, green and exciting, in a way through urban design that will eventually attract many age ranges, types of people and communities. The final design including a constant market platform creating great opportunities to local vendors.
Charli Brickland 2020 Portfolio - page 35
The Site
The Fabric District in Islington is an up and coming area just outside of Liverpool city centre, and home to many independent small businesses, many of which are fabric stores, and the historic heart of the city’s rag trade which is where the area gets its name. The main area in which we have chosen is Stafford Street.
page 36 - 2020 Portfolio Charli Brickland
Urban Regeneration Urban Design Project BA Year 2 - Semester 1 The Design Regeneration is the process of bringing new and more vigorous life to an area. The systems we propose will aim to regenerate the site we have chosen as well as the rest of the fabric district. Creating an intriguing and inspiring space that draws people away from the main road, London Road, and gives them motivation to explore the area. Make the area permeable to encourage the use of the site as a route, even for those just passing through. Also include a mixture of hard and soft boundaries to provide easy transitions between different zones as well as a sense of enclosure.
