Schnapps Distillery

The essence of the project is to expose the process and promote the quality of the traditional Austrian schnapps. The idea is to dramatize the process and make it accessible for all to learn about this ancient craft; creating an environment of celebration from harvest through to drinking. The building should provide an identity for Neuberg that not only produces high quality spirits but an enjoyable experience for tourists and locals all year round. Information: The challenge for this project was to create a building which interacts the aspects of rice growing culture towards the general public while housing a research centre. As the growing of rice is not a main part of English culture, it gave the opportunity to try and exploit the rituals behind it and create new ideas integrated into the idea of rice growing. The essence of the project is to expose the public towards the art of cultivating rice and for the research to take place in ways to improve the quality of rice for the future..

The Prosthetic Sanctorum is a place designed for the rehabilitation of victims who have unfortunately lost upper and lower limbs. Aimed primarily for wounded soldiers, a homage as they return from duty, the sanctuary also addresses patients who have lost limbs due to illness and accidents. It is the creative journey, through gardens and spaces of social interaction that stimulate the healing process. The theme of kinetics has been investigated within this project. “Space and light and order. The Hive: Atrium Volume

By engaging the public with the entire process, the science behind it all becomes an exhibition. The building therefore evolves into a working museum, where one can visit and admire the works of the scientists creating the robotic bee, but allowing for any visitor to participate and see how this discovery can save our species before our very own eyes. By exploring and explaining the importance of the honey bee in its role with food production globally, then the idea of the robotic bee will no longer be discounted as science fiction and backed as a very serious solution to a fatally serious problem. “Be the change you want to see” Mahatma Gandhi

Information:

Feature Project

The design for the ‘Neuberg Acoustic Productions’ invokes a poetic journey from entrance to exit, from raw timber to musical performance, from visual to auditory. The building is the venue for both the production of wooden musical instruments, all with the ‘Neuberg’ branding, and musical performances. The Architecture of the building is that of an intricate combination of geometries, materials, planes and phases, mimicking the detail needed to construct the very wooden instruments that are produced within. Thus creating a symphony of Architecture from start to finish. The ‘Wood Chamber’ is an architectural dramatisation of the starting point to my project’s narrative. The room provides a space for the storage of timber, sourced locally, where by clients of a musical background can select the precise specification of timber they would like their musical instrument to be made from on a personal tactile level.

“Architecture is the learned game, correct and magnificent, of forms assembled in the light. ~ Le Corbusier

The Digital Arts Facility is a follow on from the individual master plan. the project was based around a monestry in Austria. The whole focus of the master plan was the recognition of art and its exhibition though linked sunken courtyards though out.

The key ambition behind the Future art Facility was to challenge the ways in which art is displayed and the ways in which the viewer interprets what is placed in front of them. But by also allowing the architecture to play a role in the exhibition of the art and being able to hold its own presence with or without the art. The building would establish a journey filled with drama and stimulation though a digital domain questioning the pre conceived ideas of a galley and exhibition space.

The three images clockwise from the left depict the Printing Press concept. Below is the Final masterplan drawing for the town of Neuberg, Austria.

Fiction and fact stand side-by-side in the world of literature, every day we are bombarded with both. Stories fill the tabloids and scenes play out on our screens, the modern day dramas of society entertain the nation. A wealth of information is available to us at the press of a button but will we remember what we see? With this freedom of information comes a choice, the choice of how to use it. Some people have the ability to transform a common substance, usually of little value, into a substance of great value. These are the storytellers. These great minds see wealth where others see poverty, they can convert the seemingly mundane into a masterpiece, they document their tales in great novels and they leave a legacy for all to enjoy. The storytellers hold and share the future.
