About me I have recently completed the BA(Hons) architecture degree. During the degree I have enjoyed developing my skills, particularly in design, which I have been able to use in my part time job with RMR Homes producing all of their CAD models and drawings. From studying architecture, I have fallen in love with the profession. In particularly with the residential aspects. I am also currently working weekends helping on a redvelopment project with more of a hands on approach, which involves the installation of internal stud walls, insulation and plasterboard. Further to this I was also apart of the team that installed the external cladding and the roof to the building

Project Title: Northern Powerhouse Description: CDP Project Software: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, Enscape

Using a combination of AutoCad, Sketchup and Enscape I was able to produce a rendered ground floor plan for the Northern Powerhouse building. The large glass facades on the south of the building along with the thick walls which were to symbolise power similiar of that to a medievil castle created thick shadows.

Structural Details The structure of the design focused around a steel frame. The frame worked along side a stone facade creating the imposing 700mm thick walls. The detail shows how the steels sit upon the concrete foundations and how they are connecting with the floor truss at different levels.

Project Title: Screens in Architecture Description: Weather or Not Software: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, FluidRay

Masterplan The masterplan focuses on how screens can be used within architecture to control the effects of climate change. The three key screens that I focused on was the main entrance, the greenhouse and the cafe area. Each screen played a different role, with one being focused on protection, one regulation and the other storage. The building is split into three components which are all linked through an open plan layout. The first is the exhibition space which is elevated and sits above the landscape. Then there is the greenhouse which sits upon the landscape. Finally there is the cafe/ lab which is embeded into the landscape. All spaces are connected via an elevated footbridge within the tree canopy.

Visualizations Using a combination of Sketchup and FluidRay I was able to produce rendered visuals of the design. Each image is from a key view from a part of the building. The main focus on the view points is on the key screens of the design. As well as focusing on the main screens such as the cornerless bifold doors and the crittle doors within the main entrance. The other key focal points are the connection via the elevated footbridge situated within the greenhouse and the back entrance to the exhibition space via the north side of the site.

Structural Details The structure of the design focused around a steel frame. The frame was exposed to show off the structural integraty of the building. Looking at the 3D detail it shows how the steel joints and how they are connected. The tall detail shows how the steels sit upon the concrete foundations and are tied in via the ancor plates. It also shows the relatioship between the steel collumn and the rafter and how it is strengthend through the use of a steel haunch.

Structural Models To represent the structure of the design I used Sketchup in order to portray the steel frame. The benefit of doing this is that I was then able to explode the model in order to create a structural axonometric, which gives a better understanding of how the structure works on each particular level of the building.

The Fabric district has a lot of history and has become a derelict district within Liverpool. The plan is to re design the district bringing life into the area and connecting the north of Liverpool with the city centre via a over head footbridge.

Ice Hockey has always been a passion of mine having played the sport for many years. I enjoyed designing a place for the blades to crafted in the heart of Liverpool. The building included a shop, workshop and other programs required for the building.

Isometric Drawing gives the plans of the building some spatial qualities and here I can begin to see how the different rooms begin to interact with each other, something that is difficult with a 2D plan.

Using basic materials such as cardboard allowed me to see how the space within this particular room began to form. This along with the other 3D drawings create a better understanding of the spacial qualities of the design.

Project Title: Archi Film Description: Views of London Software: Model Making, Photoshop

Using old scrap materials from the workshop such as wood, cardboard and tracing paper. I created this model of my design. The scale was at 1:50 in order for me to fit my camera into the model to take photos of key vew points.

Using photoshop I montaged that photos from the models with different views of London. Also to hide the fact the model was made from different materials, I used textures to make the whole design seem that it was made from concrete.
