Incubator Ten Street Craft Centre My project is situated in the Ten Streets area in Liverpool. The Ten Streets area is historically reknown for its warehouse buildings and the Bramley Moore dock. A lot of the buildings that are still used in the area are mostly warehouse buildings that were originally constructed to store items such as tea and other goods that would be imported. My project is focusing on providing a space that has everything that professionals persuing crafts could want. By providing workshops, shopfronts and also a gallery and auditorium space to allow them to show their works to the public. There is also opportunities through the auditorium and various meeting and boards rooms for these professionals to give lectures and seminars to educate people who are interested in persuing the same career

My project uses a mix of new construction and retrofit design to make use of the current buildings located on my site. I have made use of the warehouse buildings to be used as workshops and shops for professionals practising their crafts. The warehouses that are currently on the site have been split to allow space for a ten metre wide courtyard which allows access from the main road straight through to the pocket park on the East side of the site.

Weather or not Windermere Wharf Windermere Wharf is an attempt at creating an interlaced space that can be used by both the public and professionals. The main use of the building is for a weather station that can montior the surrounding areas weather and the level of the water in the Lake Windermere. The concept that inspired my design was to try and create a building or buildings that can wholely exist with water. By creating jettys to provide surfaces for the buildings to sit on out in the water I can create multiple spaces that can help inspire and educate people on the current climate crisis and to act as a form of reality check into the severity of the situation and how it can effect the earth and humans, if we don’t find a way to stop it or adapt to what can happen.

In my design I wanted to include spaces that could be used both by the public but also professionals that are conducting research. The Lab and the Observatory are connected, making quick access for the professionals to monitor water levels in Windermere. The cafe also connects to the exhibition space, this space connects through to a library through a glass walkway with a small bridge. The library and exhibition space will be used to educate people on the current climate crisis and how it has effected the immediate area.

Live Lounge Baltic Studios
Baltic Studios is designed with the intention to create a live lounge that also doubles as a place to provide education and entertainment for the public in Liverpool. The studio will have different functions with the use of lounge area and bar, multiple studios and rehearsel spaces in one area. A performance space and private area providing accomodation for visiting performers. As well as areas for educations and meetings that can be used by the public. The access to the public is a huge factor due to Liverpool having a plethora of upcoming bands of all types of genres that are performing in the area and recording their own music, giving them a platform the branch out and make use of the studios facilities. My design is focused heavily around the use of a central performance space that is surrounded either side with 2 buildings that will inhabit the majority of spaces used by the public. The performance space will be inside a large curve that spans 20 metres, the design of the curve has been made so that light can penetrate it and can illuminate the inside of the space. The whole project uses a lot of curtain walls and translucent materials so that there is a lot of places for light to travel and create shadows.

The building is clanned with PVC white panels as well as the interior being mostly comprised of white plastered walls, the idea to use a dark wood for the flooring accents the colours and creates a juxtaposition between the colours. The curved structure that makes the performance space has a layer on top of the structural work which is made from PVC membrane which is both waterproof and fire proof, similar to what Shigeru Ban used as the outer layer in the Japanese Pavilion Expo. The purpose of this is to keep a translucent layer that can resist any weather but still provide a good amount of light into the space. Attached to the curve is also sound reflecting panels which are used to help treat the performance space acoustically by creating using the convex shape to deflect and disappate the soundwaves. There is a lot of curtain walls in the front of the building to provide light into the open areas, as well as provide light for classrooms and meeting rooms at the front of the building. Due to the curtain walls being offset into the building it creates an effect of entering a new place as soon as you arrive at the building, making it more welcoming as well as creating interesting shadows on both the interior and exterior.
