About my work

The work shown throughout this portfolio is gathered from over three years of work at LJMU (architecture). Specifically, hand drawings, models and various software will be shown also showing the skills required and used for each. The portfolio will also only show specific parts taken from the various projects not everything that was done for each of the. Lastly, all the work shown throughout this portfolio is my own and done with own skills.

6131 - Comprohensive Design Project (Della Robbia Art Gallery)

This was my last project of my third year at LJMU(architecture). This was one of my favourites and the idea was to create a new museum/art gallery for Della Robbia based in Liverpool close to Hamilton Square. One of the reasons this appealed to me was because of my interest in history, so designing a museum/ art gallery interlinked with that interest. One of my favourite parts of this project was using rendering software for the first time and creating what felt like my most realistic and functioning design for a building to date. The most challenging part of this project was going into such depth for the structural side of design the building. However, after completing everything to the best of my ability in the given time it was extremely rewarding to see the finished designs.

6121 - Weather or Not

Weather or Not was of the first projects I started in my third year. For this project I had to use all the previous skills I had learnt but with an extra challenge which was the local surroundings. This was due to the fact that for this project you had to pick one of three sites one was up on a hill, one was by a river and the last was by a lake. Each had their own challenges for the designer to incorporate into their design. I decided to pick the site by the lake, therefore the factor to consider for this was flooding which the site was prone to do. To face this challenge one of my main design factors was building the entire structure off the ground onto stilts. So the building would still be accessible even with flooding.

5123 + 5124 Experimental Project (Viaduct)

For the end of my second year at LJMU, students got put into different groups with different projects. The project I got was to renovate a derelict viaduct. This project brought 2 new various challenges one being you had to work with en existing structure (the viaduct). The second was working with other students as the individual work got put together for a group project. This challenge was probably the hardest part for me as my communication skills at the time could have been better. The part of the project I really liked was working with a derelict structure as I personally love renovation work and seeing something before and after.

5122 Urban Design Project

One of the first projects I had in my second year at LJMU was this Urban Design Project. This was one of the first attempts at having a full design project with a brief using the skills picked up in the first year. One of the main factors with this project was the fact it was set in an urban environment which causes the designer many factors to think about such as fitting the building in with the other existing buildings.

4124 - A Place For Crafting

One of the first projects I did was in my first year at LJMU. This project was called a place for crafting and it was done in a quite exciting way. The reason for this was because students got to pick a type of craft and design a workshop that links to the chosen craft. For me I chosen a bow as it was on the list of options and history side of the craft appealed to me. This also links to one of my favourite parts of the project which was the freedom to lead the design you want.
