About me, Stephanie Mabon.

BA(Hons) Interior Architecture Student Representative

After having a career in Photography for over 10 years, I decided to take the plunge into something I’d always been passionate about – Interior Architecture. Whilst growing up I was surrounded by a family of tradesmen, all masters in an area of the built environment from building all the way through to sustainable engineering. In my younger years I was taught different areas of trade and shown into numerous building sites which amazed and sparked a curiosity in my young mind. This curiosity adapted into creativity which led to my journey into Photography. Here I thieved in conceptual Photography – bringing the impossible to life. After years of feeling like I was still missing something in my creativity I took the step I’d always been afraid to and began my journey into Interior Architecture at LJMU. I have a strong passion for the environment, outdoors and eco-friendly materials which takes a focus in all my work consistently throughout the years. My goal is to create adaptable spaces that not only tell a story but also provoke happiness and

Comprehensive Design Project Hotel 24/7: Ecotel

The aim of this project was to transform the “Bling Building”, (Hanover Street, Liverpool), into a hotel that fits our own personal brand. My brand focused the environment, refill shops and reusable materials throughout. Ecotel is born from my passion of the environment and a desire for change within the community.

Materials; The concrete exterior and a moss wall with rootless plant systems. Wooden panelled flooring internally to create a natural eco friendly approach to the interior. Whilst also creating a calming feel to the rooms interior. Concrete finished walls and a white coated wardrove and storage system. Wooden shelving with wooden boxed storage around the sleeping areas.

Digital Webform, Natwest Building, (Castle Street, Liverpool) For this design we had to create a working office space, with adaptability at the forefront of our concept. Each space had to easily be transformed into something else so a working space design that was interchangeable was key to resolving this issue. Digital Webform had reuse and adaption as their long-term goals, so this fit perfectly with my moral compass of eco-friendly sustainable design. I created live wall sound barriers in the spaces, and cantered the design around a central courtyard above the dome skylight, where glass bridges connected the building together creating a more realistic flow of movement.

Experimental Project: Timber Shop- Save The Bee’s The brief for this design concept was a working timber shop, including height requirements for the workshop and a shop of some sort within the building. My concept was based around Save The Bee’s, focusing on roof gardens within a city environment covered with wildflowers; helping to keep the bee population higher within the city centre. The workshop, as well as making numerous ethically recourse timber products, specify in designing beehives, and teaching workshops informing people of beekeeping and what they can do in their gardens to help increase the population of bees within Liverpool. The design consists of: Workstation with high vaulted ceilings, workshop areas where people can craft whilst learning about valuable beekeeping information, a café, a shop, and multiple roof garden spaces.

Detailed Spatial Design: Fruit Exchange, Liverpool The brief for this design concept was to create a hotel whilst still respecting the building. The Fruit Exchange, in Liverpool, is a listed building with tonnes of character. The goal was to create a timeless space, respecting the past of the building whilst focusing on nature and water as my key elements. I designed a water stream flooring system, which stretched from the dining space- the old auction room, which was redesigned into a restaurant and bar, with a planting system in place so fruit trees and bushes could be placed there. Bringing a touch of the auction’s history to the forefront of the design. The water element continued in the higher levels with a private indoor garden atrium, with a waterfall glass wall providing a cooling element to the space. Again, scattered with fruit trees and bushes. A live wall lines the entrance way of the hotel, pulling people in from the busy streets, intrigued at the building wrapped in nature.

A Place for Crafting, One of my first designs, ‘A Place for Crafting’, was centred around architectural model makers, and the spaces they need to produce their craft. I created a building that was focused around natural lighting, and neutral interior details – keeping the building minimalistic so the craft would be the centre of attention when you visit the building. The design includes a reception area, accessible toilets, a kitchen, lounge space, workstation and PC area that is artificially lit so not to cause glare. As well as multiple areas intended for group discussion.
