alpha & omega
‘the only thing that is certain in life, is death’. Harnessing the power of experiential architecture, this project aims to change the way in which we view death, promoting the idea of death being a continuous cycle that transcends the physicality of the human body, but rather promotes the notion of returning to ‘dust’. The scheme is a processional route in the San Teodoro valley that allows the mourners and funeral procession to move through a shrouded forest via a series of connecting buildings that work as metaphors for death and the great beyond.

The Repository of the Unconscious
The proposal is, in a sense, a hotel where you can check in and, in some cases, never check out. It serves as a playground for the rich; somewhere they can go to live out their fantasies with an ‘anything goes’ kind of reality. The vertical maze embraces the seven sins in an attempt to entice the occupant, whose path is ultimately chosen by their unconscious mind. Those who choose to check in to this non-reality risk becoming trapped in the maze where they could essentially ‘sin to death’.

The project aims to bring these different communities together in the old town of Genoa, Piazza Banchi using languages and cultural traditions as a means to achieve this. The building facilitates language rooms, cooking classes, workshops and a hammam. These activities happen within intimate spaces to encourage people to interact with each other. These intimate spaces leading to public cores, reflecting the typology of a piazza. Additionally, the project involves combining both a new and existing building together via a tunnel. The project uses the fundamental and original elements of architectural drawings and buildings through the language of pattern and geometry and has been used as a motif in both the architectural plans and details of the building.

Creative Play
A school should be a small city. In a city, you have small places, large places, and all sorts of secluded places. The school should be a creative place, which will allow the imagination to flow. In this design, the school is the playground and children can freely learn and play in any space.

Genoa Leisure and Wellness Centre
This project offers a wide range of sports facilities and recreational activities aims to enhance the community health quality. The idea for this scheme is to bring the flow by utilizing the proposed landscape feature which is the floating platform walkway surrounding the masterplan into the programs. Landscape features have been proposed such as the artificial beach and the pockets of pool that incorporated as a continuity of language from the proposed scheme hence creating ambiguities, blurring the interior and exterior with the surrounding landscape.

The condition of the site as the transformative edge between the old residential area, which is quiet and peaceful and the new areas, bustling with life, brought by the masterplan, became a critical point of interest, in aiming to create a ‘silent’ place where people can linger, recollect and share their memories.

Experiential Craft Brewing Centre
The Experiential Craft Brewing Centre seeks to create a central hub for the
production, experimentation, learning and
tasting of craft beer in Italy. The building incorporates a micro-brewery producing
different types of bold and flavoursome craft beers through the experimentation
of local fruits, herbs, spices and grains, giving people a ‘taste of Genoa’. It has abrewing school teaching and allowing people to produce their own craft beers as well as a visitor’s tour which takes people
on a sensory journey from the arrival of the raw materials, through the process
eventually ending at a waterside bar and restaurant. A key feature of the building
are the bottle-like structures, a light filtering concrete space which protects the valuable copper vessels and captures the essence of the building.

Library of Genoa
The main aim of the project is to create
a library that can be a reference point
to all the people visiting or living on site, but also for the city of Genoa, itself. A
library which will host numerous activities - and different kinds of libraries, with the maritime library having a prominent role due to the historical background of the
city - and will become the place to be for
people of all ages. The grid of the project
is based on the development of squares -
my personal passion -and follows the idea
of void and solid throughout the building.

Genoa: Knowledge Gateway
The Knowledge Gateway consists of three main elements; firstly a concrete plinth containing a workshop/studio for practical engineering and a lecture theatre/library for theory based learning. Secondly there are four structural cores containing services for ventilation and thermal comfort as well as vertical transportation. Lastly, four cantilevered modules, which function as office, studio and administration spaces each connected via bridging tunnels and staircases. To quote Albert Einstein ‘The only source of knowledge is experience’ it is the underlying goal of this project to create a facility that balances theory and practice in the realm of design and construction whilst addressing the need for an improved public realm.

I have a particular interest in the refurbishment of old buildings and that is why my final project is based on this. The refurbishment of the ex-silo in Genoa was a very exciting project for me since I had the chance to deal with technical, structural, environmental and aesthetical aspects of that historical building. The element of old and new are merged together to create a place that is so relevant to our society nowadays.

The forgotten typology
The premise of this proposal revolves around creating an inhabited bridge. An opportunity has been seen in this extension between the two piers to create something that is more than just a liner connection between two districts. What you will find from the journey of crossing is an extension of the urban fabric of Genoa.

Market as a Destination
A
The proposed scheme takes up a thoroughfare route between the city and the waterfront, with high footfalls of cruise, train and bus passengers as it is surrounded by such infrastructures. Capitalising on its advantageous proximity to these modes of mass transit, a mix-used development consisting of market, restaurants, supermarket and apartments is proposed with the aim of transforming this site into a destination: which provides passers-by and residents chance encounters and exchange of ideas. Since market has great potential to showcase the rich food culture of Genoa, it is no longer a site to pass through, but a destination to explore.

Aimed towards Generation Z, the Collegare business complex offers a 21st century take on office design into the new generation of entrepreneurs. A successful workplace for Gen Z will have its main emphasis on Health, The Environment and Technology all within Innovative Workplaces, blurring the lines between Work and Personal Life. Each new construction provides different environments for working, and are all interconnected via walkways spanning the tree tops and circulation towers acting as parasitical entry routes into the new buildings, avoiding any major disruption to the existing concrete structures while replicating the traditional circulation of Italian hill towns.

The main goal of this project is to tell the story of Italian migration through the passage of the years. The Museum of Migration is separated into three zones. The educational zone which is an exhibition area designed as a labyrinth in order not only to tell the story of the immigrants but also put the visitors in the shoes of an immigrant. Furthermore, the genealogy research center aims to reform the public opinion by examining and discovering the roots of the visitor. Finally the Memorial, a well-thought designed memorial for all people died at sea on their JOURNEY to a better future for themselves and their families.

GIANTS OF INDUSTRY
Embracing the popular theatrical scene of the ligurian capital, this project introduces evocative elements into an urban landscape shaped for performance. The proposal inhabits an existing industrial landscape and utilises the anomalistic setting to question the human perception of scale. From small-scale finger puppets and marionettes to large machineoperated giants, the proposed program juxtaposes the contrasting experience of scales in an attempt to embrace the foreignness of the surrounding industrial context. By introducing playful elements, the project delves into the imagination of children and adults, in an attempt to reinvent an industrial setting as an immersive theatrical experience

Genoa La Superba
My design proposal of a heritage interpretation center aims to educate visitors and evokes the identity of Genoa locals as one of the proud and strong maritime superpower during the Mediterranean era. Visitors are designed to experience the story of Genoa’s glorious past in the perspectives of three different groups of important people which built up the society of the Genoese Republic- the noble families, the merchants and the sailors. The interpretive journey is separated into three paths which offer different narratives and experiences along the same event/ timeline.

Hijacking the Over-Stimulated Mind
We have been programmed into a society that places ego and materialism above everything else. By 2030 70% of the world’s population will be living in densely packed cities around the world, with over population and busy cities create a host of negative attributes to health & wellbeing. Mental health can be affected with the never-ending amount of overstimulation the body receives through the urban environment.

Project & Biography
Nowadays, life is so much more sedentary, ‘moving more’ has had to become a conscious decision for most people and currently 60.2% of the population of Halton don’t partake in any exercise/sports activities on a regular basis. There are so many reasons why people don’t exercise and the challenge was to create a sports facility for the whole community, that starts to address these. The proposal is a combination of typical sports spaces with alternative activities integrated in to the ‘space between’ with each space having views in to and from other spaces, enticing involvement in something new.

Accademia Musica de Paganini
The project is an academy built above a metro station in the name of Niccolo Paganini, a legendary Genoese composer and cultural hero. The design explores the interesting combination of the two themes, music and movement. The massing strategy emphasises on the balance of public and private spaces connecting to the elevated walkway. The form of the building slides out like a canopy, hovering over the entrance to the metro station and school, also creating open spaces above. The interior architecture is overwhelmed with drama and tension, resembling Paganini’s music pieces like Caprice 24 and La Campanella.

Genoa was famously known to be a port
city and is the largest seaport in Italy, which mainly caters to cargo transportation. The masterplan La Pianificazione per il Futuro aims to increase tourism by introducing new landmarks and destinations which
places itself around the many ports of Genoa. Terminal City is developed from the
context of the masterplan which swathe
completion of the loop of Genoas ports
by connecting two main ports to create an enclosure of the harbour. Terminal city
aims to be the Gateway to Genoa by sea
through its strategic location with links to
its surrounding transportation networks. Terminal city provides an introduction
to the area to draw tourist and locals
alike to safely experience Genoa in the established loop. The design consists of
a bus transit station and a ferry terminal which caters to a ferry at a time.

Stop Motion Animation
The project explores a space for the creation of Stop Motion Animation. It offers four separate structures each conducive to a differing branch within the industry, each structure provides either studio, admin, manufacturing or design space suitable for the internal activities. Focus has been paid to the crafted approach to architecture and the way in which well-conceived built form can be translated into actual structure. Rather than acting as a foreign object on the site the project brings together local materiality and building typologies to generate a suitable aesthetic.

Kircher’s Sonic Temple LA FUNDIBULUM
Situated in Genoa’s old town, la Fundibulum builds on the urban masterplan - reconnecting a derelict piazza to its neighbouring square. The scheme was initiated to provoke the silent minds of the building users today. By testing varying sonic qualities in different conditions, a set of key spaces and functions were developed. Enabling people to wander and experience the echoes and amplification of/in a given space.
