Unity Centre The current Birkenhead Libary has a lack of users due to its lack of modernity. So the thesis focus on what are the new needs of a library for the people within the community and what will attract the new user. The proposed scheme aims to create a hub for both community of Birkenhead and the student of Chester university. The proposed building has several different spaces that support the requirements of each person. For Families, there is a range of spaces that children can interact with such as maker spaces, classrooms, tech spaces and sensory areas whilst their parents can enjoy the library spaces or relax in the cafe. For local business within the area, there is empty storefronts and meeting rooms for important client meetings. The community benefits by there being classrooms where they can come develop certain skills, get a workout in the gym or at a local class or go to a mental health meeting. However, the sole purpose of these spaces is for the people within the community to meet new people within the library. The art students of Chester university get two floors that are exclusive to them the first floor is your typical university library with meeting rooms, reading bays, bookshelves, meeting rooms, and student admin. Whereas the second floor is focused on art students with their own bookable art studios, workshop rooms and focused books. One aspect incorporated through the whole of the building is the incorporation of greenery with the roof being the main display with growing spaces, a greenhouse and roof terrace spaces. Another key aspect was including modern technology within the design to make people’s interaction with the library meet the new demands of technology with each floor having computers, and tablets incorporated in the children’s area and the student workshop having 3d printers. The central beacon of the library is the book robot which is a robotic book delivery system which can hold store over 10,000 books in a controlled environment and delivers books to users within five minutes. Also, there will also be open shelving within the library for browsing. The Design will attempt to create a space that works as a community hub and meeting space for a range of different people.

MA Year 1 Semester 2: Housing Design project Life on the Green
Site and Context
Life on the green is situated within the heart of Dingle a district in Liverpool. Most of the area is made up of residential homes with a few industrial areas. The site has plenty of potential, being on the edge of to the city centre where houses can reach high prices. This project will give people the opportunity to live near the city centre in affordable homes.

MA Year 1 Semester 2: Housing Design project Design strategy and Concept Project The existing site was a low, quality green space with a few sparse trees. The intended audience for the housing is growing families. There is a range in the size of homes available, to allow for families of varying sizes, giving them the choice to move into the home that best meets their needs. There is several shared communal spaces and a communal park to the rear, this will encourage interactions between neighbours and create more of community. Each home has its own green space and a roof terrace, where people can have their own privacy. There is a mixture of two and three-storey housing, depending on the needs of the owner. Another aspect of the project was to incorporate an enhanced biodiverse environment to encourage and help wildlife to flourish.
Housing Occupany
Types of Houses
Who is it For ? One thing that was clear about the area of dingle was that the lack of larger homes and families living in the area so the design was to encourage families in the area by making a larger home with more than two or three bedrooms which is what currently stands in dingle.
Massing/ Concept Development
1. Creating a border of housing around the site but making sure that the existing routes and trees were unharmed.
2.Staggering homes back to create courtyards in-between and front gardens. It will also allow for them to have windows on all walls.
4.The sides of the building were lowered to create roof terraces .
5. Behind the housing there would be a communal park
3. Angled-Roofs were added and position towards the south to increase the amount of sunlight on the photovoltaic panels

Year 3 Semester 2: Comprehensive Design Project Project Concept One thing I noticed about the needs of a photography school was that they had a lot of spaces that need natural light and some that would only be possible with artificial light, for example, a green screen room can only work with a high amount of light. So I decided to come up with the concept of separating the spaces into light and shadow. Light would represent all the spaces that need natural light and shadow would represent the spaces needing artificial light. My concept of light and shadow influenced my buildings overall shape. The “light” part of the building is a cube to representing light travelling in straight lines. The reason I picked a cube is that I did not want a shape with too many angles; also, I wanted all the lines to be the same length which is why a rectangle did not work. For the shadow part of the building, I am going to use the actual shadows produced from the light part of the building “the cube”. I made the shadow space only 6 metres high so it would not overshadow the buildings to the right, which were the same height.

The green roof will provide a lot of benefits to the building and its environment. The environmental benefits it will provide, a rainwater buffer were the water will evaporate through the plants. This will decrease the amount of water circulating within the drainage systems and reduce the risk of flooding. The green roof will also help purify the air because the plants will absorb the co2, converting it in into oxygen. Plants absorb 50% of the sun rays and 30% is reflected, this helps to create a more comfortable climate. Therefore, the indoor climate of the building will not need as much air conditioning due to the roof temperature being reduced. The green roof also protects the roofing materials from all the elements, which doubles, and in some circumstances triples the lifespan of the roof by a conside considerable amount. It will also increase the biodiversity in the area and be a place for birds, butterflies and insects to inhabit.
s n All Artifical lighfing will have led bulbs On top of the double-skin facade, there are dynamic panels. The facade can be changed dramatically. It can be adjusted to different climate conditions. The facade has no time restrictions and can be changed hourly, daily and on a seasonal basis. This will help to control the conditions of the building to meet the occupant's comfort and wellbeing all year round. The panels can be adjusted to the occupant's needs. This will enhance the photography studio experience because th can adjust their lighting conditions until they get the perfect they lighting for there image.

On the south side of my building, there is a double-skin facade. The facade adapts to cold and warm weather. It provides natural ventilation and solar gains. Also, the facade helps reduce the amount of energy used for cooling and heating the building. In the winter months, the solar rays preheat the cavity reducing the heat demand. In the mo summer months, it protects the building from direct solar gains and provides ventilation because the second skin has openable windows
