Retention of Existing Residential Buildings Most of the residential buildings in Toxeth are of a high quality and are part of what gives the area character. The strategy works around these existing buildigs, suggesting a treatment for the streets in between without impacting the existing residents too much.
Repurposing Areas of Car Parking Toxteth has large areas of land dedicated to mass car parking that is often left empty, the urban design strategy suggests repurposing these areas and limiting vehicular access down certain roads in order to control the amount of cars in the area.
Prioritising Pedestrians As part fo the urban design strategy, all the streets in the area will recieve some sort of treatment depending on their location and how frequently they are used by residents and visitors. The garden and residential shared streets give priority to the pedestrians and limit vehicular access. Shared Car Parking sites will be introduced with the added benefit of free electric charging points to encourage the use of electric vehicles.
Encouraging Sustainable Public Transport The new ferry terminal provides a sustainable transport link into the area, the network of routes is extended as part of the urban design strategy to increase the connectivity along the River Mersey.
Retention of Existing Warehouses Retaining and repurposing the existing warehouse buildings by the waterfront will reduce the disruption to the site, it’s important that our proposal is sensitive to the existing residents in and around the site. Oil Casements in cliff face that are currently used for storage are going to be repurposed as cafes and other small commercial units.
Stormwater Management Strategy Stormwater run-off will be controlled as part of the strategy, permeable pavements, bioswales, permeable strips and flow through planters will be introduced when the infrastructure is changed that will allow water to infiltrate through the streets. 31

Utilising Listed Structures By reinstating the bridge that connected the Grade II Listed Ramp and Steps that was previously demolished, the need to create new infrastucture for access routes down the cliff is reduced which will save expense and time.
Rejuvenating Existing Green Spaces Rejuvenating existing green spaces to give them a feeling of enclosure, by reworking the areas already dedicated to green spaces, it reduces the need for the demolition of existing buildings in order to create new green spaces. The site with allotments has also been integrated into the urban design strategy as this is a sustainable area that the community can continue to use.
Introducing more Trees Introducing more trees to the site will have many benefits in terms of sustainability. In some instances, the trees provide natural buffers between the busy roads and the buildings in order to minimise disturbance. They will also make the site a more pleasant place to be and will enhance the areas of public realm. The area with existing mature trees beside the split level park will be utilised as a forest school for the local schools.
Using Sustainable Materials Where possible, the infrastructure will be made from sustainable materials. The large areas of paving will use locally sourced sandstone to support local businesses and reduce the cost and carbon footprint associated with transporting construction materials from further afield.
Reactivating the Tunnel The Liverpool Southern Extension Tunnel has been reactivated as part of the urban design strategy, reinstating this historic transport link provides a connection for pedestrians and cyclists without requiring any large new infrastucture that would be invasive for existing and new residents.
Reducing Impact of Sefton Street By accepting that Sefton Street is a frequently used commuter route into Liverpool City Centre, the urban design strategy suggests reducing the width of the road to lessen its impact and increase the space dedicated to pedestrians and allow a dedicated cycle route with green buffer between for safety. 2021 Portfolio Samuel Potter

area that otherwise is noisy smelly and grey, the industrial area that the site sits above is a stark contrast to the project. In a lot of urban housing personal outdoor space is considered a luxury, but it shouldn’t be, everyone should have their own defensible space. Allowing them to relax not just inside their home but also outside enjoying the sun and wildlife. so for each of the properties in this project the smallest space a home has is 10 metres squared and the largest being over 90 meters squared.
The range of properties within the project help creates a Front Elevation - Scale 1:500 - Adiverse community allowing different sizes of family and age ranges and groups of people.

On the ground floor, the daylight factor plan shows that a daylight factor of 2 reaches well into the building. The only area that doesn’t have a DLF of 2 is the kitchen and toilet. The ground floor already has large amounts of opening allowing light in, it wouldn’t be possible to get the kitchen up to a DFL of 2. As for the first floor, the study is all above

BA RIBA Part 1 - Liverpool John Moores 2014 to 2017 with honours class II division I
Over the three years, I worked on different types of projects. In my first year, the first design module was to design a ‘Special Place’. For this I designed a place to carry out macro photography, designing a compact studio that could also work as an exhibition space and a place for the photographer to stay so had to find ways for all of the these to work within one open space. The second design was for a craft, I choose to design a studio for glass blowing, where to help with the design I when on a glass blowing course and created some glass. For my last project in my second year, I had to design a wildlife centre for bird migration For this project, I had to create a design language that included the main centre and the hides which are scattered over the site. I also had to search for Liverpool for a suitable site and research the species that would use it. In my first semester of the third year, I designed a temporary school for overpopulated cities, that could utilise the unused space under bridges. The design had to be possible to travel in containers, I also designed a method of hanging the whole school off the bridge’s structure due to most sites having loose footings. In my final project, I challenged myself to design using a similar method to deconstructive architecture. Creating a logic and system that took the site apart and in the end created the end building.
Foundation in Engineering - Coventry University 2013 to 2014 with 65%
A foundation year in engineering at Coventry University College. The course had four modules: Academic skills for engineers, engineering science, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. One of the first projects was to create a spaghetti bridge that spanned a one-metre gap, which needed to have the highest weight to failure ratio, this was performed in teams. We achieved second place, this was due to working well as a team and using each other’s strengths. I also worked on my own on laboratory reports and experiments. This meant I was analysing raw data with the use of formulas and calculations using MS Excel to display it into presentable and usable data.Tracy Park Country Hotel 2014 to 2015 While I worked at Tracy Park, I worked in a variety of roles mainly as a bartender, but also worked in the restaurant as a waiter. One of the main types of events at the hotel was weddings. Working at weddings, I had to learn to work well under pressure and to tight time scales. Dealing with high volumes of guests, I increased my experience in-respect to customer relations.
The Bull at Hinton 2013 to 2014
I worked at The Bull Inn at Hinton as a bartender, kitchen porter and waiter. Due to having many different roles, I built great team working skills. Additionally, I had to lead a team as the bartender to control all the orders. This helped me improved my listening and communication skills. Working in the pub, I had to work with the public and problem solve as well as meeting deadlines.
Atkins - Work Placement June 2010
One week of work experience at the Hub at Atkins in the architecture office. I completed a practice design brief and presented this to a number of Atkins staff including the Head of Education and the Associate Director. I also participated in a client meeting. 2021 Portfolio Samuel Potter
