About me The possibility of turning intangible ideas into reality is one of the main reasons for my interest in architecture. Studying in this creative field has provided me with a medium to create forms and spaces not only to be experienced, but also enjoyed by our human senses. My passion for architecture is further strengthen through the architectural studies that I have undertaken and the constructive critique sessions done throughout. My studio experience as a student and working experience with an architectural firm has made me more excited to continue my career in this profession.

Freshwater Centre: Research Institute + Kayak Hub Location: Chester

Project Description: The Shropshire Union Canal and the River Dee both flow through the centre of the historic walled city of Chester. Canal & River Trust holds the guardianship of inland waterways, together with a wide range of heritage buildings and structures. Freshwater Centre in Chester could be working together with the organisation. The focus is given to tourism and research activities which works to protect, promote and enhance the river environment, for both people and river life. Canoeing facilities is one way to attract a greater number of visitors and tourist while at the same time providing great research institute for freshwater . Through active waterways, it will contribute to the economic, social and environmental wellbeing for the benefit of current and future generations.

1. RECONNECT CHESTER WATERWAYS River Dee used to be connected to the Shropshire Canal with a draw bridge on the Sealand Road. But the repair works of the Sealand Road saw the draw bridge to be removed and replaced with immovable tar surface, disconnecting the river and the canal. There is a section under the Chester One City Plan that state the potential of reconnecting the waterways around Chester, from the Old Dee Bridge up to the Shropshire Canal, forming a complete loop. The canal connects Chester to many cities nearby like Ellesmere Port up to the north.

River Dee Chester site is located in close proximity to the Dee Estuary which comprises the marine areas of The Dee Estuary Special Protection Area (SPA). The estuary is a major wildlife area and one of the most important estuaries in Britain, it supports important natural fisheries on their way to and from the freshwater river.

Canal Though built for industrial and agricultural freight, canal are now our most obvious wildlife habitat. Canals were colonised by plants and animals soon after its construction. Their slow flows and managed water levels provide a unique habitat that has become a vital resource for wildlife.

Chester New Lake Location: Chester

Project Description: The strategy of this urban design is to recreate the historical state of the area in order to trace back to its medieval history. To recreate its historical state, we plan to expand and reshape the existing canal and add a new lake surrounding the Water Tower. This gesture can give positive impacts which give better highlight to the Water Tower as a landmark that hold the urban elements together. This is the core move of our development proposal. The canal will connects the River Dee to the Shropshire Union Canal which opens up the opportunity for transport by water. The canal connects Chester to other major cities like Ellesmere Port.

Design Objectives SECTION | A-A

Roof Pitch: The pitched roof was chosen as a low maintenance option, then a flat roof. This suited the clients requirements of SECTION | rather A-A a low maintenance building. Landscaping: The courtyard is central to the plan and is fundamental to the design of the Family Centre. Hard landscaping will be used as opposed to soft landscaping, this is to reduce future maintenance costs such as, gardening.

Insulated board

PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK STUDENT VERSION UTODESK STUDENT VERSION

Heating System: The existing heating system in the Family Centre is underfloor heating, this will be changed for the proposed new build to a boiler system with radiators where appropriate. Again, this contributes to a low maintenance approach and also easier access if their is any problems in the future. In contrast to underfloor heating, were costs can be high if a problem occurs. Whilst, the radiators provide the users more control over what spaces are heated providing more thermal comfort then under floor heating.

Sequential Squares Luke Greenhalgh, Rasul Rahmat, Adam Shallcross The main concept for this design is for the redevelopment of the Civic Centre of Ellesmere Port and its surrounding area to provide an accessible pedestrian route in the centre of Ellesmere port. This route would begin at Whitby park moving through the Ellesmere Port Arcades and ultimately joining Whitby road where it would follow existing routes towards the train station and the docks. In order to achieve this the walkable route would have to reduce vehicular access and vehicular speeds in the areas surrounding the space. This would be to encourage the use of the pedestrian route by the local populace by making them feel safer and more in control of the roads and routes they will use. In order to achieve a financial and cultural acceptance of the development multiple squares will be used each with a different atmosphere and purpose ranging from a relaxed lunch break space to a busy activity space. This combined with the addition of new leisure, office and residential space will further cement the use of the squares. With the route also passing through the Ellesmere Port Arcades the new directed foot traffic from the local populace will increase the use of the existing retail space
