REOCCUPPYING THE EDGE: THE MINDFULNESS AND WELLNESS SPA
For my CDP I chose to focus on a building that would help deal with the increasing numbers of mental health issues amongst young people in Liverpool. We are living in stressful times and people are dealing with the physical and mental side effects of this. Water has known to help soothe the mind and create a sense of peace. This is why the spa focuses on mental health as well as physical health through swimming and meditation facilities.

The spa is made of two buildings connected by a bridge. The right hand side represents the public, loud, city accessible swimming pool facility, whereas the left is the more relaxing, spa-like facility designed to help you unwind and become more in touch and in control of your mental health. The bridge represents the journey an individual has to take in order to make the efforts to unwind and reach a state of mindfulness.

My approach for this project was creating both hand drawn pieces, as well as using Revit to bring my ideas to life. I found it very interesting to combine the two and create visuals that bring across the relaxing and inviting space I aimed to create on the edge of Liverpool.

BOX BOLIDE was one of my main inspirations for this project. The simple but adjustable shapes are a metaphor for how a space can change its purpose to meet the needs of the individual.

As you travel through the building, you feel a sense of weightlessness. When choosing the materiality of the building, I wanted to represent the juxtaposition between heavy, stressed feelings of anxiety and light feelings that come with mindfulness and peace. I did this using a mix of timber, steel, concrete and glass. The pool has a strong concrete base and glass covers which provide visitors with a view of the sunset. Additionally, there is a void in on the west side of the building that encourages people to take a moment and enjoy the end of the day from wherever they are.

WEATHER OR NOT
My ‘Weather or Not’ project focused on designing a building whilst having as little impact on the surroundings. The building has an organic shape which blends in with the trees by Fell Foot Lake. The building opts to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and the cycle of life. I opted for a hands on approach with this project, completing hand drawings and concept models.

The Live Lounge was a project I was very excited about as it combined my passion for music with my passion for architecture and creating a community. The building was inspired by The Beatles’ last ever rooftop performance, and had a large outdoor performing space. The building also had recording studios and spaces where young artists can connect and work as part of a group.

YEAR 2 SEMESTER 1 URBAN DESIGN PROJECT During this design project, I created a public space in the Fabric District of Liverpool where young students living in accomodation nearby would like to spend time. My approach included pedestrianising Kempston and Stafford Street and creating a park that doubles up as a pop up market space.

YEAR 1 SEMESTER 2 A PLACE FOR CRAFTING
My first year project explored the art of crafting. My chosen craft was film photography and developing. The studio design is inspired by contrast: black and white photography, with a proturding dark room which catches the eyes of the visitors even before they enter the building.
