Spirits Spring 2024
This project aims to be an established vibrant hotel, bar and distillery, that links together to create a unique experience. Based in the insutrialised area of Bankhall, kirkdale Liverpool, the venture hopes to enhance the area by creating a new, different destination. By bringing employment opportunities, boosting tourism and engaging the community together the proposed development of the project will contribute to the lost and secret part of the city. The project aims to provide a unique blend of accommodation, dining and craft. The idea of the project was to create an industrial styled Hotel and bar that linked to a working gin distillery. Being able to move throughout the spaces, whilst all linked to one another creates an experience rather than just a stay. By using the Canal and creating a new docking station within, encourages attraction, and also opens to a summer outdoor social space that brings customers to the bar and distillery.
River Centre
Autumn 2023
The River Centre is a communal public Observatory centre, set on the River Leven in the Lake distric. Inspired by the sites source of flowing water, the building creates a fluid, organic, journey through a public educational and lesiure space. With a Library, Cafeteria, Observatory and a space to observe the river with its rising flood levels, the building allows a natural journey through the space. The building is stilted on top of a large concrete staircase, that runs into the river when observed at different flood levels. After researching the rivers levels throughout the year, the idea is that the public can use the staircase as a way of observing the water closely and can be used for educational purposes. Above this in the centre of the building is a void that excloses the space through a curved glass. This also provides a viewing space and a looking point onto the river and its flood levels.
Arches over the City
Spring 2023
The most captivating part of this project intially was the site. Set on a abandoned viaduct, with vaults and arches made of original brick played a key role in the intial concepts and the design process. In a group, the project was to create a social publiuc space on top of the viaduct. The projects bar aims to be a social bar can be used in the daytime by families, overseeing the city, but also can transform to a civilised bar that offers a private socialising spot for many. The design is based around arched voids and cantilevered spaces, allowing for both large areas to socialise within the bar but also smaller and more intimate spaces for a private experience. These arches also create viewing points over the city, bringing a sense of attraction to the project. Architecture is about how people feel in a space, hence why the project provides different types of spaces throughout.
Urban Design
Autumn 2022
Through researching the conditions and properties of the Fabric district, the projects aim is to regenerate a lost space within the city, promoting a conservation of an open gateway to Liverpool’s city centre. Juxtaposing the built-up surrounding areas, using curved and abstract shapes it aims to break up the city space, attracting residents and commuters to a ‘quite escape’ as a part of their day in busy city. Working in a group, the project is inspired by different opinions on a quiet and serene place that can be utilised.
