About Me.

I completed my Bachelors of Architecture at LJMU and I’m a professional dancer. I’ve built a career in Theatre and Performing Arts for the last 10 years with different scales of productions. This performing arts industry has shaped my view of Architecture through the staging of productions , and theatres,to the cities I’ve travelled to and performed in. I found Architecture through photography. I would capture the cities as a hobby and through this I’ve transferred those skills to my studies. I enjoy creating spaces that bring people together, I believe this is the most powerful aspect Archtiecture has on the places we live.

Brief The intention of the brief is to contemplate architecture as a sensory experience around water, integrating a variety of different ambiences themed around wellness rituals and cultures.

Brief In an attempt to address climate change, extreme weather phenomena and the dramatic shifts in water levels, this project asks to imagine an observation centre of climate change; a weather sta-tion8. The building or set of buildings should stimulate a diversified and reactive response to weather manifestations, but, beyond that, the possibility of architecture to generate energy, in the same way that energy is generated by the weather.

SolastalgiaLivingRooms Glenn Albrecht, an environmental philosopher, developed a neologism defining the relationship between ecosystem distress and human distress during his research at The University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Solastalgia is defined as ‘a form of emotional or existential distress caused by environmental change’ (Albrecht, 2005). He derived the term from ‘solacium’ (solace), ‘nostos’ (return home) and ‘algos’ (pain). Changes within the environment and the effects of these on other species are well documented and widely understood. The human experience of climate change is primarily related to the role human activity plays on the environment, we understand how these changes will impact places humans live, and further, how these changes are likely to happen through climate models. However, little has been discovered of the societal and psychological impacts of a changing environment on humans. “Solastalgia, the lived experience of negative environmental change, has much to offer those who seek clarification about the relationship between the state of human emotions and the state of the built and natural environment” (Albrecht, 2020). With close links to nostalgia, it is the emphasis of homesickness while still at home, and the melancholy and anguish of a lost place that a person can no longer re-enter. Using this concept, the project will try to connect the causes of climate change, those who suffer from Solastalgia and linked conditions, such as PTSD ( post traumatic stress disorder) and depression, and discuss how architecture can build a connection between humans and the environment to resolve the immediate issues of climate change.
