Caoimhe Sweeney Part 1 Architectural Assistant
Cover Letter
Similar to your practice, I have a strong interest in exploring a range of possibilities to do with Architecture. I would say as a designer, I don’t have a specific style or favoured material choice, due to loving all aspect of design exploration and not wanting to limit that exploration. Although, there is a value that I continuously repeat, which is building to create a connection to each specific site through developing strong concepts based on the area, the community, environmental factors and the brief. I have admired this in your practice for many years, and I can fully see myself indulged deep within the workings in the future. I’m going to try convince you to see me there as well by explaining a bit more about myself. My skills include a great desire for forward thinking, meaning I’ve already started to learn major softwares with plenty of room to learn as you wish. You tell me what to do and I’ll do it. I have a love for digital illustration to communicate my work while also loving to play with physical models. I believe models in this way help you to explore on a deeper level, the form and light of the space. I also take great pride and enjoyment in understanding people along with a passion for positively combatting climate change through design. My history includes receiving a community scholarship for Architecture at Liverpool John Moores University for the duration of my Bachelors Degree, I left the Republic of Ireland alone to pursue this career path at the age of 18. I have since gained another scholarship sponsored by the RIBA Future Architects to take part in the ‘to:scale’ two week programme. I have also had an entire page written on my journey as an Architecture student on the RIBA website under the section, ‘Future Architect to watch out for.’I have also been a student representative of first year and now third year architecture where I am the main communicator between students and the board of studies. I was also a student advocate for the architecture school at open days. These all show my ability in being able to communicate, understand, connect and sell my vision. I also travelled for a year before I started my university journey, giving me a great understanding of culture. I now have plans for an Architecture based trip across Europe for over a month in August. Some initiatives I’ve taken upon myself include starting my own freelance digital artist company in which I did commissions over the COVID 19 pandemic. I also led many showjumping teams to win across Ireland and then eventually representing Ireland in the UK as a team. I was also the first in my family to go to University with now three of my relatives following in my footsteps. I hope this gives you an idea of me as a person but also what I could bring to your team. Please see attached for my CV and a QR code/link to my Portfolio Website. Kind Regards, Caoimhe Sweeney

FloatHouse
FloatHouse as a concept is based on the idea that one can reach a seconary consciousness through the steady allignment of space. It is influenced by the ideology of ‘a body within a body,’ to reach the three stages of oneself;Lost, Understand and Self Awareness also seen through ‘release and compression.’ The design does this through therapy routes based upon assesment, determining which of three journeys of healing to take; all of which containing the central piece, Float Therapy. The building replicates the working of Float Therapy, simple in its form but complicated in its structure. The form was inspired directly by the site, which has evidence of the overhead rail line of Liverpool, dating back to the 1900s. It is also central to both Queensway and Princesway tunnel, influencing the development of hierarch in space and massing. Lookinh into the cylinder formation of these tunnels and the original concept of hierarcy within the. A split system, public and private, through the lensof the concept discussed above, delevoping the idea of transporting oneself for better.

LAYERS IN TIME
Layers in Time is a bulding aimed at studying, debating and presenting the topics of the Anthropocene. For centuries we have identified the earths geological timescale through Epochs. Technically, we are still considered to be in the Holocene period which is also reffered to as the garden of eden. These epochs were identifed through the testing o sedimentary rock layers on riverbeds but now this has been interrupted due to large sediments of plastic the riverbed, altering the identification process of the new timescale. Irreularity through steps was a strong concept throughout as an idea to slow the ccupant of the space down and to take care of each step moving forward.
The influence of flooding was vital in the entire design concept. Alongisde storytelling of slate layer, flooding allowed a more impactful, shock, element to the topics of climate change. Flooding s used as a symbol of why the anthropocene should be made offical and to hold humans accountable through the geological time scales. Co-herant with the irregular steps across the design (acting as a symbol for irregular future) something that you have to move forward with caution. The flooding is used through the architecture mainly at the debate room and ampitheatre steps. The debate room that explores the positive and negatives of the topics is the target room to allow flooding on rare occasions. The event will have great significance on the speeding up of both climate change and the steeping up of the officiality of the Anthropocene. The idea is to remind he scientists and debaters of the bigger picture and act as a reminder that nature will alays be the most powerful source.
Seeing Water in a Different Light is a design aimed at supplying Liverpool with filtered, highly mineralised, energised and chemical free drinking water based on the UV Treatement facilities of Paris. The water treatment facility reuses water from Queensdock and circulates it around the design. On site it offers free drinking water to the people of Liverpool.
CONNECTION BY A THREAD
Connection by a Thread is a space that not only connects people metaphorically but also physcially. Metaphorically the idea is to connect you to the beauty of natur and the importance of incoporating it into our daily lives. Nature allows you to access a peaceful and relaxed mentality which ultimately connects you to a deeper self. This encouraging better well being and an appreciation to the nature natural world. Physically, the idea is to connect monument place to everton by a singular route ( a thread) which is inline to the areas history of fabric making. It is in place to connect the community together through culture, art and events. The concept of a connection by a singular thread symbolises how one element can be the one thing that brings everything together.
