About Me My name is Sophie Wilkinson and I’m currently in the last year of my BA(Hons) Architecture at Liverpool John Moores University. This course for me was a perfect mix of being creative whilst also having to problem solve issues with floor plans and layouts. I’m originally from Colwyn Bay in North Wales where I love the countryside, beaches and the sea which are all massive passions of mine. I enjoy eating out and cooking different types of cuisine, especially finding small local restaurants, and discovering a hidden gem. I’m also extremely passionate about animals and have two dogs, cats, and chickens at home. Before architecture I volunteered at my local vets at their hydrotherapy centre, which was an amazing experience however, I decided on architecture instead of becoming a vet due to it not having the creative side and I wanted to keep it as a hobby not as a job. I also like to read and keep fit by going to the gym.

BA Year 3 Semester 2: Comprehensive Design Project
The Comprehensive Design Project was to design an art school in Birkenhead. From looking at other examples of art schools for my research project I decided to focus on the community aspect of an art school as well as breaking ‘barriers’ between different types of art. Another focus of mine was to create as much North light in the main studios as possible.

BA Year 3 Semester 1: Weather of Not
For the weather or not thematic research I focused on water stresses and the global impact of this and how in the future the Lake District could be under water stress. As well I focused on the history of the Lake District and how the reservoirs were formed due to two small towns being flooded. From this I decided to create a museum to honour the lost towns and remember their history.

BA Year 2 Semester 2: Experimental ProjectLiverpool Live Lounge
Form my thematic research I focused on how room shapes change the acoustics of a place. This made me look at creating more rounded edged rooms for my Liverpool Live Lounge project. There was also an existing building on the site that I wanted to retain and just adapt as part of my project.

BA Year 2 Semester 1: Urban Design Project
For this project we were give an area in Liverpool called the Fabric district and we had to create a scheme that would encourage people to visit this area. It was a group project for the first 6 weeks and then we developed an area of the project individually. Our focus was to keep the heart of the fabric district the same but introduce pockets of new around this. For example, an art and craft area and a bee keeping area. The area I developed was an outside art gallery/ eatery space.

BA Year 1 Semester 2: A Place for Crafting
For this project we could chose a craft and would have to make a workshop for it and investigate how they produced the product. Due to me having done ballet a chose to do pointe shoes and a dancing studio.

BA Year 1 Semester 1: Archifilm
For this project we had to make a short film based off our chosen subject. Mine was a book called the Tree of Seasons by Stephen Gately and I wanted a building which you could experience the seasons throughout and then for the final room it to be a view point.
