Horse Welfare Comes First at Brighton
The safety of horse and rider is of paramount importance to Brighton Racecourse. We have a team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected when a horse requires veterinary treatment on the track. This is to offer some privacy and calm for both horse and vet and does not automatically imply that a fatality has occurred Equine care at Brighton is provided by the Equine Veterinary Hospital at Arundel. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website: www.brighton-racecourse.co.uk Radios and Mobile Telephones
Dress Code Racegoers are advised to wear attire suitable to the weather conditions, however patrons in the Premier Enclosure are requested not to wear sports shorts, ripped denim or football shirts. Shirts must be worn at all times in all enclosures Emergency Procedures for your safety Should an incident occur which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced security staff to be located at various points throughout the Racecourse. This information is precautionary and we trust the procedures will not be needed Please remember in the event of an emergency, to take your belongings with you and under the direction of Brighton Racecourse representatives, proceed quickly and quietly to the agreed area.
Taxi A complimentary telephone is available in the Racecourse Reception to book taxis. Alternatively, racegoers can call Streamline Taxis on 01273 202020 It is advisable to book as far in advance as possible to avoid any delay.
Abandonment Policy

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating birthplace of horse if not Great Britain S S
HOW TO READ YOUR RACECARD You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims. HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance. The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)
