KEY Owner Breeding Breeder Jockey Trainer Sponsor Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating birthplace of horse if not Great Britain

Race preview from Weatherbys
Itisarealpleasuretobesponsoring theWeatherbysePassportHandicap atBrightonthisafternoon, aClass6 event staged over a mile for threeyear-olds.
The new team of Gary and Josh Moore have Sioux Nation gelding Red Cloud who will look to build on a good second at this track on seasonal reappearance last time. He showed little as a juvenile but, following a gelding operation, produced a much-improved effort onhandicapdebut.
Red Cloud wasn’t the quickest away but the caught the eye as he stayed on strongly to the line, the step up in trip should suit.
Jim Boyle’s Dwynwen was fourth at this track when last seen, travelling perhaps the best on the front end but just weakening late on over ten furlongsasshedidn’tappeartostay the trip. The daughter of Advertise has been dropped a pound for that effort and should be seen to better effectoverthisshorterdistance.
Churchill filly Blenheim Star is the only last-time-out winner amongst thefield, improvingforthestepupto amilelasttimewhenareadywinner of a similar contest at Ripon. She won with a fair bit in hand that day, quickeningclearsmartlyandeasing downintheclosingstages.Thatwas lessthanaweekago, sowillhaveto deal with the short turnaround, but William Knight’s filly could prove tough to stop under a penalty if in thesameveinofform.
Amerigo Vespucci is the only other winner set to line up here, showing a willing attitude to deny the reopposing Dashing Donkey by just a shorthead at Yarmouth back in April. The Invincible Spirit gelding has been below par since though and must bounce back from three lesser efforts. Dashing Donkey has not been seen since that runner-up finish and William Stone’s gelding will bid to reverse the form on the same terms with that handicap experience now under his belt. Homebred Shadwell colt Alshimali hasshownlittleinthreecareerstarts so far but is bred to be better than an opening mark of 57 and it would not be a surprise to see improved forminthiscompany.

BLENHEIM STAR cranked it up a notch when a smooth winner at Ripon on Thursday and she looks ahead of the game under a penalty Having been punted on reappearance here a fortnight ago, Red Cloud shaped well in second and there should be plenty more to come from him give his lowly mark. WEIGHTWATCHER: LILY IN THE JUNGLE won off a handicap mark of 66, her rating is now down 7lb to 59. LONGEST TRAVELLER: ARNIE ANGELL trained by I Furtado, Wiseton, 231 miles.
OH SO AUDACIOUS shaped well at Yarmouth last time and her course experience is a big plus, so she’s preferred to Mudlahhim in a thin race. Shaw Park also arrives in form and is worth considering.

This represents a good opportunity for VICTORS DREAM to finally get his head in front. Though still a maiden following 14 attempts, Marco Botti’s charge has run more good races than bad ones overall and this is arguably the weakest event he has contested to date. Stryder and Bluebells Boy can fill the places.
