Brighton Racecard - Sunday 1st September

Page 1

Welcome to Brighton Racecourse and thank you for joining us this afternoon for our Family Fun Day.

We have a seven race card today. With the first race at 2.22pm, be sure to pop down to the parade ring about an hour beforehand for some great tips from our experts.

We also have some great treats for the kids today - including a funfair and face painting. Plus, our friends from Brighton & Hove Albion FC have joined us with some fun football activities.

We are delighted to welcome the Ring 20 charity as our sponsors today.

Ring chromosome 20 epilepsy syndrome, also known as r(20) syndrome, is a rare chromosomal anomaly resulting from a break on each arm of chromosome 20 resulting in ring formation. This syndrome is characterized by medically intractable epilepsy, nocturnal subtle seizures, behavioural problems and mild mental impairment. There have been only 60 cases of Ring20 reported since 1976. Some of our guests welcomed here today are parents and children affected by this rare condition.

Race sponsorship is an excellent way to enhance your visit and there are various options available, please contact a member of the racing team on 01273 603580 if you would like to find out more.

I would like to thank our super hard working and dedicated grounds team for the huge efforts that they have made in getting the track into such great condition.

We hope that you enjoy your day with us this afternoon, and look forward to seeing you again at our next meeting, which is tomorrow September 2nd - Gates open at 11.50.

KEY Owner Breeding Breeder Jockey Trainer Sponsor Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating birthplace of horse if not Great Britain

WEIGHTWATCHER: OTAGO won off a handicap mark of 65, his rating is now down 7lb to 58.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: HAVANA MOJITO trained by J Gallagher, Moreton-In-Marsh, 143 miles.

CLEAR JUSTICE proved better than ever when scoring in good style at this course in July, so he is taken to leave his last effort behind as he drops back down in trip. He can gain his third success here, with C&D winner Havana Mojito also worth forgiving her latest run and feared most. Otago is the pick of the remainder
