OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

WEIGHTWATCHER: STRAITS OF MOYLE won off a handicap mark of 80, his rating is now down 9lb to 71.
LONGEST TRAVELLER: STRAITS OF MOYLE trained by R Cowell, Newmarket, 164 miles.
STRAITS OF MOYLE made a promising start for his new yard when runner-up at Nottingham and is taken to go one better now off an unchanged mark. Therehegoes and Kyber Crystal appeal as the duo to give Robert Cowell’s new recruit most to do and can chase him home in that order.

HAVE A
RACE IN YOUR VERY OWN NAME!!!
Did you know you could celebrate a special occasion with a race named after a friend or relative – for example
‘The John and Joan 40th Wedding Anniversary Maiden Stakes’ or ‘The John Smith 30th Birthday Handicap Stakes’.
It’s a great way to enjoy a day out with brilliant memories and you can combine it with hospitality in a private suite or a meal in the restaurant. You can come down to the Parade Ring and choose the ‘Best Turned Out’ horse and also present a prize to the winning owner before enjoying a post-race glass of bubbly. The package also includes photographs of your day and a mention in the racecard and on the big screen.

RACE SUMMARY
Some young improvers taking on established handicappers here. Upstart Crow and his regular amateur pilot could snatch a fourth win, however this is the most competitive contest he’s faced Both he and stablemate Jaahez have shown their best on the top of the ground, as has LUJAIN, however her dam relished some cut and the drop in class at her preferred trip should give her the edge Paramer Angel, who is proven here and can go well after an absence looks a good each way pick.

Unbeaten run continued when finishing two and a quarter lengths ahead of Jaahez at Brighton over this trip, so must enter calculations again despite the weight rise Has not faced easy ground since being well beaten on debut however. (R6 W3 P0) (OR 76)

Distance winner on quick and though untried on easy ground, dam handled it well. Bumped into a potentially smart type on reappearance under a penalty and then lacked pace, tried in a sprint at Group 2PA level latest Return to trip and drop in class a definite plus. (R5 W1 P3) (OR 75)

At his best over 1m2f on quick or the All Weather, though not beaten far on reappearance behind Upstart Crow at Brighton over this trip in visors. Better off with that one here and another stable amateur takes a few pounds off again, though visors discarded for customary hood.(R23 W2 P12) (OR 67)

Group 3PA sprint winner in his prime, but has never looked at home over this distance, despite winning a conditions race on the AW at Al Ain at this trip in 2017 Could be invigorated by changing stables however, and won his maiden on soft (R44 W7 P11) (OR 67)

Put a poor run at Brighton (last to Upstart Crow) behind him when respectable second to a very promising type at Wolverhampton over this trip latest, despite racing freely. Going the right way and tries a hood today to help him settle, easier ground a likely plus too. Chance (R4 W0 P3) (OR 60)

off a light weight.(R6 W0 P2) (OR 58)

Twice beaten by Upstart Crow this season at Bath, at this trip and further on quick ground, though most of the family take their time to score. Open to improvement in first time visor trying easier ground for the first time, but hard to recommend running from out of the handicap. (R7 W0 P3) (OR 50) 4oh
