Welcome to Chepstow Racecourse for the first day of our two-day flat meeting.
Welcome to Chepstow Racecourse for the first day of our two-day flat meeting.
We are thrilled to be getting racing on the track from 2:05 kickstarting the seven race card with a class six handicap over 7 furlongs.
A big thank you to our raceday sponsor AK Bets for their support across the card.
There is a lot planned at the racecourse in the coming months and to shake things up a little we are talking about Christmas in August. We will host a series of Christmas parties in December, please contact Liz Owen lowen@chepstow-racecourse.co.uk and book your business’ party in before it’s too late.
We are looming ever closer to autumn and the Unibet Jump Season Opener, this fixture on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October, showcases some of the horses to follow into the winter season. The feature races are the Unibet Persian War Novices’ Hurdle and the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy. There are ticket and hospitality offers available on the website or by calling 01291 622260.
Our next meeting will be our final flat fixture of 2024 tomorrow, Tuesday 3rd September!
Thank you for joining us today, enjoy the racing and we hope to see you again soon.

Parade Ring
This is an ideal opportunity for racegoers to see the horses close up and assess their attitude and fitness. The horses begin to parade 15-20 minutes before their race, and this is a great chance to pick your horse.
Placing a Bet
The Racecourse Betting shop is situated in the Grandstand & Paddock enclosure. The bookmakers are located in the betting ring in front of the main Grandstand.
The Weighing Room
This is located opposite the Winning Post and all jockeys weigh out here before each race. Their weight, including their saddle, should correspond with the weight shown in today’s racecard for their particular horse in that particular race. Once the race is finished, the jockeys will weigh in and their weight must be the same as when they started. On racedays, four stewards ensure each race is run according to Jockey Club rules and regulations.
Winners Enclosure
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this Racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual found contravening these conditions will be evicted.
Emergency Evacuation Procedure
“Due to circumstances beyond our control racing has had to be suspended, will you please evacuate the buildings by the emergency exits. You will be guided by members of the racecourse staff to specific assembly points, determined by which area you are in. Once there, please wait until the emergency services and/or racecourse staff tell you what to do”.
Please see the assembly points clearly marked on the map.
After each race, the first four placed horses are led into the Winners Enclosure where they are unsaddled and the jockeys take the saddle and weigh in. There are presentations by race sponsors to the connections of the winning on the winner’s podium.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

WEIGHTWATCHER: VAUNTED won off a handicap mark of 65, her rating is now down 9lb to 56.
LONGEST TRAVELLER: STARSHOT trained by P Charalambous & J Clutterbuck, Newmarket, 195 miles.
VAUNTED was well on top at the finish when scoring over 6f here recently and looks the obvious answer to this weak handicap Cobh Harbour is likely to be back on his game and is probably the main threat ahead of Comedian Leader.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: BALLSBRIDGE trained by J Candlish, Leek, 130 miles.
A first taste of success could be in the offing for BALLSBRIDGE, who has found just one too good in amateur riders’race the last twice and he represents a yard in fine form Ciotog was arguably unlucky not to regain the winning thread at Bath recently and he has to be feared, while Dappled Light has proved consistent since joining the Adrian Wintle yard and is likely to be on the premises once more.

RACE SUMMARY
An open looking contest featuring two previous course and distance winners in Upstart Crow and Paramer Angel, though both have finished behind American bred import WINDS OF FORTUNE in their most recent starts. He looked progressive in the UAE this winter and also finished ahead of Group 2PA first and second Abiyah Athbah and Fareedhat El Izz over this distance in a much better race last time.
