WELCOME
TO DONCASTER RACECOURSE
Thank you for joining us today, as we host the Vertem Futurity Trophy, the final Group One race of the British season! We are glad to see you here and to have this meeting back on course at Doncaster for the first time since 2018. Weather and the pandemic have interrupted us in delivering the meeting for the last two years, but we are delighted to be back for 2021, and have a great eight race card for you today, plus the Clock Tower Cup charity race at the end of the card. I would like to thank today’s sponsors, Vertem Asset Management, Virgin Bet, and the Dobson family for their ongoing support of racing here at Doncaster, and I would also like to wish all today’s jockeys, owners, trainers and racing staff the best of luck for the day. This week is Racing Welfare’s Racing Staff Week, where we celebrate all the many great people across the horseracing industry who work tirelessly to ensure that our great sport is delivered on the track. Our final race today celebrates the industry’s key players as racing staff take to the track and compete in the Clock Tower Cup, please do stay around and enjoy the event. Todays’ feature race is the Vertem Futurity Trophy. The last four winners of the race have all gone on to Classic Glory in the following season as Three-Year-Olds, with Saxon Warrior, Magna Grecia and Kameko all going on to win the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Jim Bolger’s 2020 Vertem Futurity winner, Mac Swiney, won the Irish version at the Curragh. We very much hope to see another superstar of the turf here at Doncaster this afternoon! Today’s race sees the Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O’Brien attempt to equal Sir Henry Cecil’s 10 victories in the race with the unbeaten Luxembourg. The colt will be up against seven other runners, including Roger Varian’s Bayside Boy, winner of the Champagne Stakes at the Cazoo St Leger Festival and Mark Johnston’s Royal Patronage, who races in the famous colours of Highclere Thoroughbreds. I wish all horses and connections of today’s feature race the best of luck! If you are sharing your day on social media, please do remember to tag us in using #DoncasterRaces. Finally, it has been a challenging eighteen months for everyone and we are still finding our feet as we navigate our way back from the pandemic, so please be kind to the team on site today, they are doing the best they can, so be the best you can be. Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

AADDEEY not for the first time shaped encouragingly when fourth over further at Goodwood in July, doing good work to get involved on the back of a slow start before those exertions told late in the day. This looks to revolve around FLAMING RIB, who continues to thrive and brought up the hat-trick in dominant fashion when making all at Chester 4 weeks ago. Pierre-Louis Jamin retains the partnership and he rates as very much the one to beat. The main danger could be Deodar, who overcame signs of inexperience to make a successful debut at Newbury last month, ahead of the hat-trick seeking Mohi.

HORSE WELFARE COMES FIRST AT DONCASTER At every race meeting at Doncaster our top priority is the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. We have a dedicated team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. This does NOT reflect the severity of any injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.

The vote goes to AREEHAA, who shaped as if still in good form at Sandown last month, despite not being seen to anything like best effect, and remains lightly raced for her current yard. First Greyed has shown more encouraging signs on his last 2 outings and is one to bear in mind fitted with a first-time visor, while Canoodled should remain competitive following a 3lb rise for Newmarket. 1-2-3: 1.AREEHAA (IRE) 2.FIRST GREYED (IRE) 3.CANOODLED (IRE) KEY colours
