WELCOME
TO DONCASTER RACECOURSE
Good afternoon and welcome to the Virgin Bet November Handicap! The final hurrah of the flat season, bringing an end to what has been an exciting flat season at Doncaster. I would like to thank Virgin Bet for their support in sponsoring today’s meeting. We began the season back in March with the Lincoln, which saw Haqeeqy ridden by Beniot De La Sayette take the trophy before going on to further success at Ascot. June saw us welcome guests back on course and saw some great racing across the Cazoo St Leger Festival where we welcomed Stradivarius the super horse who romped home in the Doncaster Cup this year. With Hurricane Lane taking this years’ Leger Crown. The final Group One of the season, gave us one to watch as we look forward to 2022 with Luxembourg taking pole position. Today we end the season with todays’ feature race The Virgin Bet November Handicap taking place at 2.40pm with 23 runners declared it will be an exciting race, with Gosden Trained First Light and Calling the wind trained by Richard Hughes looking like todays’ favourites. Finally, its’ been a challenging 18 months for everyone and we are still finding our feet as we navigate our way back from the pandemic, so please be kind to the team on site today, they are doing the best they can, so be the best you can be. Enjoy your day. Rachel Harwood EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

FLYIN’ SOLO ran out an impressive winner at York on his only previous try on a soft surface and this low-mileage 4-y-o is fancied to return from a break in style for his shrewd yard. Sam Cooke has been rejuvenated since the headgear came off and can go close after disappointing in this race 12 months ago. Easy Redcar scorer Mr Curiosity and in-form duo First Light and Farhan need considering too.

HORSE WELFARE COMES FIRST AT DONCASTER At every race meeting at Doncaster our top priority is the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. We have a dedicated team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. Use of Screens It is our policy to erect green screens around any horse requiring veterinary attention. This does NOT reflect the severity of any injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse! 37
