WELCOME
TO DONCASTER RACECOURSE
Welcome to the SBK Lincoln Meeting Good afternoon and welcome to Doncaster Racecourse for the SBK Lincoln which marks the traditional start to the 2022 British Flat Racing Season and the £100,000 Lincoln Heritage Handicap. We would like to thank today’s sponsor SBK for their most generous and continued support. Don’t miss our raceday presenter Roger Hart, tipster Kevin Ackerman and Tom Collins from SBK who will be in the Parade Ring at 12:40 to run through today’s racecard.. Thirty years from his first success with High Low, William Haggas is the most represented trainer for the SBK Lincoln Handicap today at 15:35, as he seeks a record-breaking fifth win. There will also be a trophy presentation taking place for Marco Ghiani – the 2021 Champion Apprentice. Here at Doncaster today we also begin the ‘Search for the Yorkshire Wonder Horse’. Go Racing in Yorkshire have partnered with leading Yorkshire equine supplier McIvors in a quest to find the first horse to win at all nine Yorkshire racecourses between the start of the flat turf season today and Sunday 31st December 2023. The competition is open to all racecourse trainers and £100,000 will be shared between the owner, trainer, jockey and yard of the first horse to complete the challenge. The qualifying racecourses include Beverley, Catterick, Doncaster, Pontefract, Redcar, Ripon, Thirsk, Wetherby and York. We are delighted you’ve joined us today and the team here at Doncaster are committed to making your day as enjoyable as possible. We hope the enclosed site map will help you find your way around the racecourse, but if you need help finding something – please ask! The Old Weighing Room in the County Enclosure is open today, so why not stop in for some grazing tapas dishes or treat yourself to a delicious sharing platter. We wish you the best of luck and hope you’ll join us again on tomorrow for the second day of the SBK Lincoln. Don’t forget tomorrow is Mother’s Day – we still have some availability in our restaurants if you’re thinking about treating mum!

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

The obvious one is PERSIAN FORCE, who was by far the most expensive of these at the sales and is a brother to last year’s Weatherbys Super Sprint winner Gubbass from the same stable. Beach Breeze, who hails from a yard that won this back-to-back in 2015/16, and Blatant, who represents last year’s winning stable, are other likely types. 1-2-3: 1.PERSIAN FORCE (IRE) 2.BEACH BREEZE (IRE) 3.BLATANT KEY colours

DILIGENT HARRY had underfoot conditions as a plausible excuse on his final start at Ascot last year, yet his profile prior to that was an upwardly mobile one and he gets the nod to make a winning return and he’s still very much unexposed on turf. A number arrive with claims, including Michael Dods’ A BOY NAMED IVY. A winner on return at Redcar last spring, he produced a host of solid efforts in defeat thereafter and, having fallen back to his last winning mark, it would come as no surprise to see him primed for another big run. Empirestateofmind progressed nicely in handicaps last term and is feared. General Lee and Mostawaa complete the shortlist.

A small field but an interesting race. CHINDIT brings some really smart form to the table and has a good record fresh so he’s the pick. Roger Varian has won this 3 times since 2016 and the unexposed Royal Champion has the potential for better in 2022, while lightly-raced 5-y-o Boosala achieved enough in handicaps at the end of 2021 to think he could also make his presence felt at listed level. 1-2-3: 1.CHINDIT (IRE) 2.ROYAL CHAMPION (IRE) 3.BOOSALA (IRE) KEY colours

With the Michael Appleby yard in good form, SANDYMAN is worth chancing in this wide-open handicap. He was runner-up off a 6lb higher mark back from a break at Nottingham in October and a reproduction of that would surely see him go close in a race of this nature. Be Fair has acquitted himself well on the all-weather the last twice and he is second choice ahead of Nick Vedder and Al Qaasim. 1-2-3: 1.SANDYMAN 2.BE FAIR 3.NICK VEDDER KEY colours

The vote goes to MITIGATOR, who opened his account for this yard upped to 11f at Kempton last time and, still unexposed beyond 1m and raised just 3lb, this 6-y-o may have more to offer. Dynakite’s two victories this year have been followed by below-par efforts, but it could be that he needs more time between races and a bold show could be on the cards here.
