WELCOME
TO DONCASTER RACECOURSE
Good afternoon and welcome to Doncaster Racecourse for our Gin & Fizz Racenight. This is our first evening fixture of the year and a sure sign that summer is just around the corner! Look out for our raceday presenter Bobby Beevers and tipster Martin Higgs who will be in the Parade Ring at 4:30pm to run through today’s runners and riders. Also joining us today are our friends from Danvm (Doncaster) Dry Gin who are here showcasing their local artisan gins including their St Leger Festival Edition. Look out for their mixology gin lessons on the big screen and if you’d like to try them for yourself, head over to the Halmahera Bar in the County Enclosure or the Gin & Fizz Bar in the Exhibition Hall. Our Style Spotters – the fabulous Ryan and Jaimie, will be out and about today searching for our Best Dressed Lady. Five qualifiers will be handed a pink envelope and will be invited into the Parade Ring after the 4th race where the judging will take place. Today’s winner will receive a Fast Track Pass to the final of the Best Dressed Lady competition at the Cazoo St Leger Festival on Thursday, 8th September, a bottle of Prosecco and a pair of County Enclosure tickets for the Cazoo St Leger Festival Ladies Day! If you’re feeling peckish, pop into The Old Weighing Room for some tasty Tapas in TOWR or a delicious sharing platter, and make sure you stick around after racing to party with the live DJ in the Exhibition Hall, who’ll be entertaining you into the evening. As always, our team here at Doncaster are committed to doing our very best to ensure you enjoy your day and we value any feedback you may have. We wish you the best of luck today! Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

This can go to STRAWMAN, who rattled off a hat-trick in determined style last summer and, with his final start of the season easily excused (asked to come from a long way back in a more competitive handicap), he can make a winning reappearance with the well-regarded Oisin McSweeney booked to ride. Matchless opened his account for this yard last month so he heads up the dangers, ahead of Hathool.
